My lZ0 trans temp would sit around 200 to 210. GM tech told me the trucks areo shutters were working against the trans cooler. His off the record advice because I live in FL was to remove the top two shutters... Truck now sits around 180 to 185 without much delay in heat up rate. It's something cheap to try that is completely reversible.

Great follow up video!!! I changed my pan to PPE after your last video as well as changing fluid to Amsoil signature fuel efficient (which is listed for ULV transmissions). My temperature never runs over 192, it also shifts much smoother than before.

Is there a way to tune the bypass valve. Change springs or something like that to open sooner? My lm2 stayed at abot 185 on 1800 mile trip across south to The Carolina coast. Whats different between 22.5 and 23 lz0 on the trans cooler?

We have a brand new GMC Sierra 1500 Denali and the transmission temp is always 190. Is that OK? My Ram 3500 dually has the Aisin transmission and it doesn’t go above 163 . Occasionally it does if it’s 90 degrees and I am towing 20,000 lbs or so.
@DemonWorks
@DemonWorks Жыл бұрын
your temps are good. Honestly, 160-210 is ok. My worry is if I am at 210 and then go to climb a grade and it shoots up uncontrollably. I would rather be in the 160/170's, personally.

I am going to install the PPE pan and bypass valve in my 23 GMC 3.0. My question is how do I get all the old fluid out so I can get a full system of Amzoil?

Dude. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. 170 F is hot to your skin. Kinematic viscosity is tested at 100 C. Referring to AMSOIl tech specs, ATF doesn't flash until 234 C, 453 F. It's probable the OEM engineers pushed normal operating temperature for the transmission to 200 F. This likely reduces pumping losses and normalizes operation. Rejecting heat is a question of thermal power. Peak temperature is only a component of that. The extra mass adds dampening to temperature swings.

Hey Demonworks, quick question. I have a 21 LM2, 15,000 miles on the dot and had a crank seal fail. Engine oil all over the skid plates and all around oil pan. Have you seen any crank seals fail? Also cold start, pulled oil fill cap off and saw what appears to be exhaust fumes coming out. Can that be normal with the EGR especially on a cold start or would that be considered excessive blowby? Thanks
@DemonWorks
@DemonWorks Жыл бұрын
Yea, front crank seal is common, there is also a plug in the front of the engine that could cause that as well. The fumes you are seeing is just standard blowby and nothing to worry about. Byproduct of the diesel engine design. Nothing to worry about unless it gets to a huge amount, which you would likely have a dead cylinder if that was the case.

What kind of ambient temps are you subject to? My 23' never goes over 200 unless I'm hauling close to max tow capacity. I hauled my 20-yard dump trailer 60 miles today and it sat at 199 the whole trip. I'm just curious about the external factors.

I know, right? I'm honestly starting to think I have a bad bypass valve. Maybe it's not opening all of the way and creating a restriction / low flow. I will but a new one and install it after I make my big road trip coming up. Not towing, so I will be fine. I appreciate the kind words, the goal is to help share whatever I can to help whomever I can. Good news or bad news, i will share it!

Wow I just changed my tranny fluid and filter and I'm glad I did. Not sure I would want to go recommended intervals given what the fluid looked like. I think with these ULV fluids that towing a 7500lb travel trailer is extremely hard on the fluid and thus I will only go 50,000 km max on my changes not the 76,000 that GM recommends.

Oh well that’s a different comment than “does nothing”. Please post your evidence experience and results. Now you’re “saying deep pan extra fluid made no difference in temp” Made no different in temp? what about condition and longevity of fluid. What about takes longer to heat up? What about a stronger magnet on plug? If I have 4 quarts of oil and heat it up to 200° and then 8 quarts of oil and heat it up to 200°, I promise you the 8 quarts takes longer than 4 quarts to heat up to 200° All of these are factors in buying a larger pan with more fluids. Especially for those towing in in more difficult and harsh environments Refer to video time 6:33
