It looks awesome now especially with a cheese grater upper handguard. I just wish ammo was cheaper 😂 it definitely slings the brass into the upper atmosphere but it runs. I’ve thought about doing an alpha build with it but it looks awesome with wood and steel too. Good video

They are incredibly capable and robust weapons. Their may or may not be a few around here close LOL.........I am fond of the pre-ban Hungarian rifles, all the Russian stuff, the WASR and love the Bulgarian milled guns. The new Zastava's are great too (so far) mine have had no metallurgical issues. I grew up shooting the Chinese, polytech's and then the Mak-90. I will be the first to say the money they fetch now is way less tempting to dish out to own the classics however. For a milled 100% straight gun around 100-1200 was pushing top dollar, and when it went beyond that the new shooter really missed out. It's hard not to just buy a BCM or Colt ect. and slap a 1000$ LVPO on it and have a "go to war" 1 minute gun with the right ammo.......for all that investment you will get an iron sighted used classic AK from the ban list. There are still 800$ WASR's out there sure- but that was a TOP's 500$ gun from back in the day.....for the die hard who is already invested, yes to all of it. I am an AK nut and I am VERY jealous of that 308 VEPR lol.........I let so many slip by. I guess I am saying- although not as appealing to own as 10 years ago, it is still a great choice if you can afford it. The market has flip-flopped. Mil-spec + reliable AR's are 800-1000$ and all the AK's we grew up on are pushing 3000$..........crazy. It has turned from a prepper's gun to a collectors gun.

Need to clear up a few misconceptions, one big one was the "AK is a cheap rifle, if something is wrong with it they would just throw it away" along with "the reason it was stamped was so they could make them cheap and mass produce them" These are both connected, AK rifles were designed to be mass produced yes, but not cheap in quality, never. The key phrase to keep in mind here is "cost effective" and replacing rifles isn't cost effective. The goal is to get as much value for money spent as possible. Cost effectiveness is the cornerstone of Russian design, make something as durable as possible, for the minimal cost possible, the trick is finding that balance. From the Russian mindset yes they are frugal, but quality and durability is a cost saving feature in of itself. Durable rifles don't need to be replaced and in-fact save the state money. So yes a soldier may "throw away" a broken AK a get a replacement rifle, but you're going to throw it to a military armorer who is going to fix whatever is wrong, swap out trunnions, push out barrel pins etc. then put that same rifle back into circulation, a AK armorer is more like a blacksmith than what we are used to with AR. The other misconception about stamping is it's purely done as a cost saving measure, as if it was a cheaper option and that was the rational, in reality one of the biggest factors and considerations that went into moving to more stamped firearms was weight savings. Today in the world of CNC aluminum and polymers we forget that back in the 1940s stamping was one of the most high tech solutions to making a lightweight rifle, being lightweight and portable were the main priorities of Kalashnikovs design, having a rifle that acted as a rifle / submachine gun, had 30 round capacity and still weighed less than most rifles and sub guns was a really really big deal for the time, (M1 garand 9.1lbs, Thomson nearly 10lbs, AK-47 weight 7lbs) we just tend to overlook that fact because the AR was another further leap in weight saving technology.

The AK 7.62 x 39 is simple with a small number of big parts. No detents or tiny springs to go flying into oblivion. A cold weather recommendation is to use it with no lube whatsoever. I prefer ARs, but If I had to go to a remote location (warm or cold) for years without resupply, I’d pick an AK over an AR for its simplicity, proven reliability, and 30-cal stopping power.

Ok...5.45 ammo, aside from 7n6, is not corrosive. That would include Barnaul (Monarch, Brown Bear, Silver Bear included), all flavors of Wolf, Tula, and other Russia-produced ammo. The 7n6 is great ammo, just requires cleaning, but as most AKs are chrome-lined, it's not the end of the world if you don't clean it immediately after firing. Run a bore snake soaked with Hoppe's #9 and clean the gas tube and piston and you're good. A quick wipe down is also recommended.

RPK would be the equivalent to the SAW today or the BAR from WW2. RPK is magazine fed with the same caliber as the rifleman. Saw can be belt fed or magazine. M240 uses 7.62 NATO which is a step up in caliber, belt fed only. M240 is not a squad weapon system. It also requires 2 to operate properly.

Jim, on an AR you can’t put the safety on safe until it’s charged. So saying the AR can be on safe, rack a round into the chamber and it’s already on safe is incorrect. You insert a fresh mag, don’t rack the charging handle, you can’t put it on safe. So no, it’s not easier or safer than an AK. You can’t have a last round fired, and put it on safe. It won’t go on safe until it’s once again charged negating the supposed benefit.
@msquared9605
@msquared9605 Ай бұрын
You’re completely wrong, the hammer is reset by the bolt carrier moving to the rear. So even after last round fired, bolt locks back, you can put back on safe before inserting a new mag. Why in the world you would wanna do that, I’m not sure. But anyway to Jim’s point, he’s talking about picking up a gun that’s on safe and no mag inserted. So you pick it up, insert a loaded mag, pull back and let go of the charging handle to feed a round into the chamber. All while never having to mess with the safety
@ALovelyBunchOfDragonballz
@ALovelyBunchOfDragonballz Ай бұрын
You cant put a milspec AR on safe until _the hammer is cocked_ . KE Arms makes a trigger than will go on safe with a downed hammer, and you can cock the hammer by pulling the carrier back without inserting a mag. The AR safety is just better, deal with it.
