I own a Glock 20, a 29, a 10mm 1911 made by Magnum Research via Tull arsenal in Turkey. I’ve also owned a colt delta elite. All beautiful firearms. The 29 is my EDC, though I do sometimes carry the 1911. Despite its overall size, it’s narrowness makes it surprisingly comfortable in an IWB holster. With the Glock 29, you really need the pinky grip extension to be comfortable though… without it you can’t get a full hand grip and the 10mm round in a compact is pretty snappy. Glock customer support and firearm toughness story: I hand load, have for years. One round accidentally got an extra heavy charge.. I later estimated about 150%… Gun blew up in my hand. A little burn, magazine blew out, cracked the frame. Barrel and slide were fine and even reusable! I sent the whole mess to Glock… they rebuilt the firearm around the salvageable parts for a flat fee of $99, no questions asked, even shipped it back to me for free. Well done,Glock!

I happen to have had both a Colt Delta Elite and the Glock 20 since 1991 when the G20 was introduced. I ended up sending the Colt to Evolution Armory about 5 years ago for some upgrades to the very basic 1911 configuration the gun came from the factory in (sights, beaver tail, crowning the barrel, upgraded the fire control group, the usual stuff). This gives me some some solid experience with a "stock" Colt DE and a "tuned" Colt DE side by side with a stock first gen G20. Both are fine shooters and are pretty much along the line Hickock45 says in the video. His observations on carrying them are also spot on. I have a shoulder rig for my G20 as it's too thick to carry, especially if there's much driving involved. The young guns out there would say "That girl is thicc", and they are not wrong. I've not shot the SA Ronin yet, but it "reads" well for a full featured modern day take on the 1911 in 10mm. Assuming SA is "out of the penalty box" for a potential buyer, it's worth comparing it to the Ruger, Rock Island, Dan Wesson and even Colt's current DE offerings. Before sending my Colt off to EA, I shot the it better than the Glock, where better = hitting my point of aim more consistently. Once I got it back from the gun spa, I shoot it a LOT better (Dave knows his stuff). I have some ideas on Why... Some of the recoil energy on the Glock gets absorbed by the frame flexing (look for high speed camera videos of Glocks being shot to see what I mean), and have a much wider grip, which to the shooter makes it a modestly softer gun re-coil wise, maybe this helps quell flinching for some, but for accuracy, I can't see frame flexing being a plus. Bottom line is in my experience, the recoil difference is not enough of a difference to make a difference. What absolutely does make a difference is Glock triggers are pretty horrible compared to a 1911, even with after market trigger bars and so on, there's just no comparison between a Glock and 1911. I'm using Wilson Combat 9 round magazines for my Delta Elite, and they work 100%. The Glock mags also are 100% reliable, however, getting the 14th and 15th rounds into the Glock magazine requires either a reloading tool or the Thumb of Hercules. I enjoy shooting both the Delta Elite and the Glock and both have a permanent place in my gun safe. Hopefully others can share their experiences with the G20 and other 1911's. Cheers!

@MakoVette
@MakoVette 2 жыл бұрын
@@VincitOmniaVeritas7 Colt, Ruger, and even SA (Range Officer Elite) make 1911 "rail guns" with a pic rail specifically intended for weapon lights. My OG Glock 20 has no provisions for mounting a weapon light, which is not too big a deal for me. If every category includes IWB carry, uhm, no, the Glock is too darn "thicc" for that. In my hands at least, the main advantage my Glock 20 has over my Delta Elite is it gives me more opportunities to miss with a 15+1 round capacity compared to the 1911's 9+1. Cheers!

@@JD-tn5lz But don't you think if you have to train to it to make it work as well that would define it as not as good? The main reason I don't own anymore Glocks is I just hate the trigger (and grip angle.) You can't argue with their reliability and durability, though. I've found the Springfield XDM to be a good compromise between the two. The trigger is much better than the Glock (JMO) and the grip angle is closer to a 1911 than a Glock. You also get the reduced recoil and higher capacity than the 1911.

Another excellent video Hickok! I have been a Glock fan forever. Sure.. they aren't the prettiest firearm out there, but everytime you pull the trigger, they go bang. Several friends of mine that hunt in Alaska have switched to the 10mm Glock with Underwood ammo to replace their 44 Mags and even 454's. They are a LOT easier to carry than the heavy revolvers in addition to the extra ammo capacity and an old outfitter I use told me a really scientific theory that he came up with in regard to ammo capacity. It says, " More is better than less. " I'm sure NASA and MIT are studying that hypothesis now. That being said, I have to admit that Springfields feel nice to shoot and I have added several to the collection. And, yes, they are " pretty." I stay away from the Sigs because we have a lot of law enforcement at our club and I've seen way too many malfunctions in their department issued Sigs. I realize some might be maintenance issues but one of them is their SWAT Commander that I also hunt with a lot and I KNOW he keeps his firearms clean, but I've still seen malfunctions with his dept issued Sigs. So, I've pontificated enough, so thanks again for another informative video. Have a great day!

I see a lot of malfunctions in older glock service pistols as well. And beretta's, and the old steel frame Smith and wesson's. They get wore out and with bad maintenance and no replacing worn springs and what not, that tends to happen. Now a days with modern pistols they are almost all reliable and go bang when you pull the trigger. Glocks are ok but they are one of the only guns you have to upgrade the sights, guide rod, trigger, and controls right out of the box just to be as good as others come stock now a days. That's not perfection. And they are only good enough for one design. That's why I'll only ever own the 2. Until they come up with something new. My 44 mag is very compatible in weight to my 10mm. But my 44 mag only has a 4 inch barrel. Perfect for a chest holster. And considering most grizzly encounters that happen, most people dont get very many shots off so ammo capacity isnt as important as you might think. I'd rather have 5 way more powerful rounds than 15 rounds I wont use except for a few.

Reloading a steel revolver or 1911 with metal bullets at -20F is no fun. Your flesh can instantly freeze to metal when it gets that cold. So magazine capacity and composition is a big consideration. Weight and size is also a big deal if you are carrying it around all day. While I was testing new sights on my G20, I managed to make a 5 shot group inside the 10 ring about an inch across at 25 yards, so the gun is accurate. It's a matter of getting used to the trigger and sights, and practice.

Worth a mention,, Glocks rifling is not recommended for cast or hard cast bullets , which would limit your choice of ammo in 'grizz country.

@MTMILITIAMAN7.62 2 жыл бұрын
The wide grip on the Glock that gives it that famous 2x4 feel actually helps to distribute recoil forces over a larger area of the hand, which contributes to its softer feeling recoil. The Glock also has a shorter bore axis than any hammer fired pistol, and the polymer flexes to absorb some of the shock. So yes, most people will agree the Glocks have less felt recoil and faster follow up shots than the 1911, in any caliber, but especially something like full power 10mm. The capacity isn't a big deal in bear country, but the lighter weight and faster follow up shots might, as does the Glock's reputation for handling abuse while remaining reliable. I carry an older Gen III Glock 20 in grizzly country. And those of us who carry the 10mm for personal protection in the hood as well as the woods also appreciate the added capacity of the Glock. The 200 gr XTP at 1200+ fps is an excellent all around load for hunting and defense, A 200 gr FMJFN at the same velocity gives peace of mind in bear country. The Glock 20 probably saved the 10mm Auto, brought it back from the brink when everyone said the 10mm was dead. It has long had a reputation as one of the more reliable and durable 10mms, and at one point was the only option available at any price that could withstand a steady diet of full power loads. The fact it costs half as much as most 1911s in 10mm is just icing on the cake. The Glock 20 was my gateway into Glocks. I originally got my Glock 20 out of interest in the 10mm Auto, and have sense added Glocks in other calibers because they simply work without exception or excuse.

I love both 1911"s and Glock's of all the calibers they come in, and I will say that for my personal experiences, I find that the heavier/metal framed 1911's handle recoil better than the Glock's, but both are great and reliable firearms.

Maybe the Elite 9mm with the Holoson. But even that gave me a lukewarm feeling. I wish S&W would do a 10mm M&P. Or CZ would do their P10 in 10mm. But I can't get behind the Springfield XD, even in 10mm. I tried. They have an optics cut full size that I wanted to love, but couldn't.

It won't wear out in a year or two, but I have one of the original Colt Delta Elite 1911's, and I stopped shooting it after about 10 years of shooting it every other week to every 3rd week. The 10mm cartridge is much hotter than the .45 ACP which was designed for the 1911. When I say I wore it out, even with regular maintenance and keeping an eye on the parts, the locking lugs on the barrel have started to round off. Granted the current 10mm's are built to withstand the 10mm better, I still shoot my recent production 10mm 1911's a lot more sporadically based on my experience with my Delta Elite.

Thanks once more for this vid - a pleasure as always!! The lesser felt recoil of the Glock is AFAIK due to the bigger/wider grip, the polymer material does not absorb anything significant( if it does I strongly recommend a replacement), probably it is also more ergonomic than the 1911 grip, lowering the felt recoil even more. Plus, the Glock's slide front/rear end of travel is closer to the center of your hand both horizontal and vertical. The same goes for the barrel. The price difference is due to higher modularity, identical parts, polymer-injection-molding and much bigger numbers of sold big frame(10mm/.45) Glocks. Tooling up production is more expensive, but once done, costs-per-unit are a lot lower. Regards from Germany!!

It had a strange trigger, but it was light, easy to clean, and to my amazement a really great shooter. The Glock 20 clearly has lighter felt recoil than the 1911. I carry my G20 inside and out as well as shoot hard cast 200 grain and have done so for years.(gas checks naturally) When in TexAs and on the ranch I always have the 20 for hogs. One time walking from one stand to another a sounder of 20 + hogs came towards me and I was glad to have the 15 + 1 in the G20. I carry my 19 edc and on occasion my p365 but the G20 in my Safari OWB gives me peace of mind. The 1911 is iconic but when it comes to tear down, capacity and safeties the G20 all day long IMO. Yes it is clunky, yes it is a bit wide as is my G30 but it has never let me down. There is a price to pay for everything the cost of a 20 beside the monetary cost is width and loaded weight. The confidence it brings however is priceless!

I own a Glock, it's sitting on the headboard of my bed (45ACP, mod 21). BUT, by far I am more of a 1911 fan. I find the trigger on a 1911 to be far superior to the Glock, most folks will agree, and a 1911 is far more accurate. For the record I have never heard anyone say anything about their 1911 "wearing out". My first experience with a Glock was at the qualification range after attending the CHL course. We were to qualify after the class. I was using my S&W 1911 .45 , the instructor wasn't happy about my 8 round mags, and insisted I use his Glock. I had no issues shooting another weapon as long as the site were on. Well ... I emptied the first 10 round mag, dropped it and shoved in another..... as I brought the pistol up, I noticed there was no front site. Somewhere in the exchange, the front site post had came out. The instructor, didn't even come to see when I told him the front site had flown off, he went to his van and got a big magnet and we searched and found the site. The thing was, he was prepared for such a fiasco. I'm sure Glock has fixed the issue as that was more than 20 years ago, but I haven't own a Glock because of that.

I’ve had both models of the Glock 10’s and also a Kimber 1911 10mm. The trigger on the 1911 is far superior to any Glock. Also, accuracy was better than either Glock maybe due to the better trigger. If having more ammo in your gun is what you want then the Glock wins. However, if you can’t get it done with the first 8 rounds you probably wont get it done with 16. If you have a big bear on you, you probably wouldn’t get 16 shots off before it got you anyway. Just my thoughts.
@MTMILITIAMAN7.62
@MTMILITIAMAN7.62 2 жыл бұрын
True, but nobody ever got in a gunfight and said, "I wish I had less ammo" or "Thank God I have to reload in 8 rounds!" Capacity matters. Some of us don't just carry the 10mm in bear country. Some of us EDC our 10mms for two-legged predators. You're not going to be as good of a shot when you have bullets coming at you. Even the 10mm isn't necessarily going to incapacitate in one hit, and you're not guaranteed to have only one guy attacking you. If you plan on missing, plan on needing multiple rounds to incapacitate your threats, and plan on having multiple threats, 8 rounds starts to not seem like a lot. If you watch actual defensive gun encounters on Active Self Protection or elsewhere, you know that when adrenaline starts flowing and lead starts going in opposite directions, you're going to want to get some rounds out and you're going to want as many of them at your disposal as possible. That is a fact.

This was a very informative video. I really like comparisons like this. I know I'm probably overly cautious but although I like the 1911 I just don't trust a hammer back type of carry. I prefer a double action pistol that can be carried hammer down and double action on the first shot with a hammer block. That's probably just me. But in a high pressure situation I want the first round down range to be deliberate and not an accident or premature discharge. I'm pretty calm under pressure but still. Anyone else feel this way?

the !911 is actually far safer to carry then a internal hammer. The time you are most likely to shoot yourself is when putting the gun into the holster clothing getting into the trigger and causing it to fire. The modern 1911 are basicly imposible to make fire without the trigger being pulled and the exposed hammer lets you place your finger in the hammer when holstering so its actually 100% safe to holster when done right.it would need to fail in 3 different points to go off where a glock only needs one point of failure. One point of failure is you not placing your finger in the hammer. 2 somehow turning the safety off. 3 clothing getting into the trigger. glock is just clothing or draw string in the trigger. Only other time someone shoots themselves is them being stupid and no gun can stop you from doing stupid. P.S. since your new i probably should have added that all modern 1911s hammer are drop safe they have a mid hammer catch that is in the way unless the trigger is pulled. If you pull the trigger hold the hammer let go of the trigger it will only let the hammer go half way if released. If your talking about pulling the trigger when not meaning to thats you doing stupid. 1 Dont put your finger on the trigger till ready to shoot. 2 same with safety. 1911s and guns with safetys in general have 1 huge advantage to. If you hold the trigger down and release the safety the gun will fire even if pressed into something forcefully where a striker fired gun will be out of battery.

Hammer back is no different from striker cocked. The internal safeties prevent the gun from going off until you pull the trigger on both. If you're worried about having too light of a trigger, you can get 1911s with heavier triggers than a striker fired gun and vice versa. Though lighter 1911 triggers are more common.

Own a 2019 Colt Delta Elite and absolutely love it! Shoots well and have had no problems after 500 rounds. Also own and enjoy several Glocks but the G20 was just too bulky for me.
