The Creative's Blueprint to Selling: From Lead Gen to Client Conversion
Are you tired of struggling to sell your creative services?
Learn how to sell anything to anyone as a creative.
In this video, Daniel Priestley, a seasoned entrepreneur and author, shares invaluable insights for creatives on mastering the art of sales. Priestley begins by debunking the myth that great work sells itself, emphasizing that successful creatives must also excel in selling their work. The key takeaway is the crucial need for a robust sales process within a creative business, which is often overlooked or underemphasized.
Priestley provides practical advice on sales strategies that cater specifically to the needs of creative professionals. He introduces the concept of aligning sales with high-end professional and luxury experiences, moving away from outdated, pushy sales tactics. The discussion highlights the importance of selecting the right clients and establishing clear expectations upfront, which enhances the overall sales process and client satisfaction.
For creatives unsure about diving into sales, Priestley offers a fresh perspective: mastering sales allows you to engage in it less frequently, focusing more on your craft. He argues that being proficient in sales not only drives business success but also minimizes the discomfort associated with the sales process.

Years ago I worked with a sales training company and they had a Submarine system approach. So when you're selling, you're always taking people through a step by step process which overall could be summarised as "pain, budget, decision". Find the pain of their current situation, work out the budget to fix that kind of pain and then ask them to make a decision to proceed or not. That's a huge oversimplification, but when I saw the process in action it's so powerful to work within a framework.

This is class. Daniel is a cut above everyone else in the sales education industry. He understands sales down to the science but also has a remarkable way of simplifying his ideas as he explains it. Simply brilliant. Also, I love how intentional and planned this was, starting with hinting out the assessment at the start and drawing it right back towards the end to market score app. Brilliant use of the start and end phenomenon which simply states most people remember the start and end of any experience. All rounder episode for me.

Loved this video, as I feel I am one of the struggling creatives, and your insights gave me the creative "fuel" to keep going, and understanding where I am lacking. Big respect to Chris, love your philosophy. You and Daniel had a great chemistry on this interview. Very clear, and relaxed with good articulated view points.

This is such an incredible coversation. And the point of creatives not talking about work they might have done for big clients is so true. Guilty of it myself it wasn't unit recently that I realised that I should highlight the big clients I've worked with. Thanks Chris and Daniel for such a great talk.

38:41 A while back, a friend offered to help me out, suggesting we support each other. I thought it was a great idea, especially when he offered me a painting he knew I would love. Although he’s technically trained as an architect, he’s truly an artist at heart, leaning more towards the creative aspects of architecture rather than just drafting plans. I valued his work and wanted to show my appreciation, so I offered him what I thought was a fair amount. He was a bit taken aback by my offer, but in the end, it felt like a good deal for both of us. He even built a frame for the painting so I could take it home. It was a beautifully crafted poplar frame with a suspended, see-through gap between the piece and the frame, and museum glass. The glass illuminated the painting perfectly, making it seem like there was nothing protecting it. It also had UV protection and other features, but it was the framing that really made the painting stand out.

@@thefutur I've already redone my pre-qualification questionnaire to fully incorporate: where are you now, where do you want to be and what's stopping you from getting there. The bit around framing was pure gold 🤯 I'll be figuring out how to better incorporate that into my user experience.

Feedback. This video helped me get out of a mental runtime error loop. It's very accessible, relatable and applicable - my favourite format of education. Definitely recommend Oh, and I've tested score app before. It's very intuitive and well-structured. Only advice I'd give myself making a new assessment, is to not bloat it with too many questions or focal points. Better to focus on assessing one very specific problem or use case, for one solution or point of clarity. Last time I overdid it and couldn't emerge with a clear assessment form.

Chris, You would have a super power in selling realestate. Let me explain from a slight shift. The shift is in becoming a buyers agent not a sellers agent. You position with alignment of the client not the product. Having to sell a specific product limits your creative side. That forces you to find a buyer or sell a product to someone that may or may not be suited to the product. Your mind set however is to sell solutions and have freedom to provide a fluid situation leading to the best solution within the circumstances. As buyer agent in realestate you would have a super power again. You would be able to understand the clients needs, visions and align that with any suitable house on the market. As a creative you could also have solutions offered like how a specific space is perfect for converting to their needs and being able to envision the solution or path to the solution. Chris you can do whatever you set your mind to if it’s your passion, simply find a path that works. Same as you do in all your current works. 👍❤️

@@thefutur Chris you could do a better job because you would attract buyers that seek solutions that you would be able to identify with. When we truly believe in the solution we have to offer, then no hard selling is required and you would successfully close on many properties by simply connecting the buyer to the right property. 🙏

I personally had a horrible interaction with Daniel on LinkedIn - so I am not 'sold' on his ability to sell. Having watched him on a podcast I was initially impressed and went to connect on LinkedIn - I explained that I was enthused by his work and history and was met with a very dry and flat 'thanks'. He then tried to cajole me into buying something. I was turned off immediately and told him I wasn't interested. Not sure if he has someone managing his LinkedIn or if it was him but as a professional woman I was completely put off by his manner.
