Tips For Travellers

Күн бұрын

Tampa Bay is possibly one of the most ignored places in Florida by visitors. It is the state’s third largest city but people tend to think of visiting places like Orlando, Miami, Florida Keys or the beaches at places like Clearwater and St Petersburg. I was invited to Tampa to see if I thought travellers were missing out by not including the Tampa Bay area in any Florida trip. I found the city was very dynamic and had a lot going on. In this video I share the 11 very best things to do and see while in Tampa. I had five days there and had so much to do. Discover what it has to offer and see if you should be considering adding it as a destination or part of a wider Florida trip.
I would love you to give the video a "thumbs up" and if you subscribed to the channel.
Every week Gary Bembridge's Tips For Travellers Channel posts a video to help you make the most of your precious travel time and money on both land and at sea. First-hand travel inspiration, advice and tips based on the over 20 years I have been travelling every month.

Funny, I live here too and haven't done or seen many of these places. I think I'll go exploring this weekend. Funny though, I go to the islands, London, Paris, Mexico, Haiti and never visit my own home town. I think I will book a hotel and pretend to be a tourist in my own backyard because of this video. Thank you.

Bayshore Boulevard is a waterfront road on Hillsborough Bay in South Tampa, Florida. Located south of downtown Tampa, its sidewalk, claimed to be the longest continuous sidewalk in the world at 4.5 miles(7.2 km) long, is 10 feet (3.0 m) wide and is widely used for recreation and exercise.

Should have included the gulfside beaches and other things in the "Tampa Bay Area" so visitors don't miss out if they come to town. I'd probably also throw in the Bern's Steakhouse experience (kitchen/wine cellar tours and dessert room) but this video definitely had good suggestions.

Totally agree. Tampa is a great city on the West Coast. Lots of influence from the mid-west USA. East Coast of Florida reflects a lot of the New York "vibe". West Coast reflects more of the Central - Midwest. Good point about sports - a very big sports town and much more affordable - accessible than places such as Boston, New York, etc. Great job.

@@RG-hf4et I was born and raised in Tampa Bay... There are more New Yorkers living in Tampa Bay then what these comments lead you to believe. There's a reason why the Yankees have their spring training there, which wasn't even mentioned. St Pete has a ton to offer as well... The Spanish architecture is in abundance throughout the St Pete area. There's a ton of diversity from the North East and Midwest in the bay area, but most of all it has its own identity.

It's called Cephus Hot Shop. 3 & 4) Waterstuff like boats and stuff not my thing but I guess that would be fun for people who like that stuff. 5) The Museum and UT is a pretty good place to go.. 6) The Museum of Art is pretty cool 7) Lowery Park is like a poor mans Busch Gardens except it cost almost just as much and there aren't any ride to speak about. They do have a splash pad so that's cool! 8) The aquarium is sub-par to some other ones around the Country. 9) Top Golf is fun if you got the $$$ 10) The Straz Center is awesome! 11) As for sports, they are pretty good! GO LIGHTING, RAY, AND BUS! 12) The Food Places are okey... I am surprised to didn't mention the Buddist Temple... I messed up the count!

One more suggestion if I may: the Tampa Theater is a restored movie palace dating from the 1920s, the heyday of these grand venues for cinema and live performances. The Tampa's not quite as over-the-top as the Alabama Theater in Birmingham or the Fox Theater in Atlanta, but it's still a spectacular look back at that era. There's a schedule of theater tours, films and live events at their website.

It's funny, had annual Busch Ultimate passes for several years, and our one time at Adventure Island was underwhelming. If my kids wanted a water park, they preferred Aquatica. Lowry Park is a gorgeous zoo.

hi, Thank you! Do you think its reasonable to book a separate hotel/apt in St. Petersburg while staying in Tampa or just visit St. Petes and go back to Tampa hotel., Thanks!

If you don't plan to head north on the Frankland (I-275) during morning or evening rush hour, it's not a bad drive. I work over in St. Pete but attend school in Tampa. The nights I need to head over to campus, I need to get out of my office no later than 3:30 (northernmost St. Pete entrance onto I-275), otherwise, it'll take me well over an hour to get to USF, 22 miles away.

I completed my primary and secondary educations in this general region and finally took a B.A. degree from the University of South Florida, Tampa. I haven't been back in decades. An English gentleman has just convinced me why I should return--to see that which I recall and that which I've yet to see.

I live nearby and you've hit on fantastic places for people to check out. For those who want to check out Sprinkles and Goody Goody, they are located are in Hyde Park Village, a very nice outdoor shopping area. Ybor does have some great restaurants and activities. If you'd like authentic Spanish food, the Columbia is great. Want a little pub with good food? The James Joyce. Kudos for pointing out Armature Works, too! (Haven't been yet, but it is a possible visit tomorrow)

I live in Tallahassee which is about 4 hours away and I love Tampa. I visit at Tampa at least a half dozen times a year or more. I catch weekend Rays, Bucs and Lightning games as well. So much to do there and the culture is wonderful. I’d move there if I didn’t so well here in Tallahassee. I mostly stay at the West Shore BLVD DoubleTree which has a great sports bar as well as a high end restaurant and it’s also next door to Charlie’s Steakhouse(yummy).

Very nice job of covering a huge variety of Tampa attractions - both for travelers and residents alike. This city is really coming of age, so it is much more than just sun and sand. I love Hyde Park and the whole Bayshore Blvd area. I am glad that it is really becoming a top downtown now. I remember when Harbor Island was developed 35+ years ago, but other than Ybor City, the downtown did not have a lot to draw one there. Now, there are tons of cultural options, tne Riverwalk is beautiful, and some new developments like Armature Works are great. I hope some of the public transit plans come to fruition, so downtown will not just be a congested mess with lots of ugly parking garages. I love the ferry and water taxis, as one needs to be on the water to experience TBA fully. Your voice is wonderful for narration as well! Thanks!

A great way to see Ybor City is by Segway. There's a small, privately owned Segway tour company there that does small group tours and by appointment only. Tons of history there and you cover much more ground when you glide on a Segway.

@@aafjeyakubu5124 Absolutely. There are fascinating exhibits and many of them are interactive. For example, the "experience a hurricane " booth, or several others including riding a bicycle across a tightrope. Yes. You read that correctly. 🙂🙂🙂 also, there is a rope tower to climb, and an IMAX theater.

While we do have Bush gardens, we have the ferry from Tampa to st Pete, we have the river walk in downtown Tampa. This is new and all the talk lately. we have ybor(theatre, arcade and bowling centre, foods and of course the clubs). And dont forget the trolleys. And east tampa(plant city) we have winery and wine tastings.. Also we are close to tarpon springs...great ventures there as well and wonderful Greek foods.
