7 years ago, Sci-Fi fans mourned the death of master sculptor, painter, artist and set-designer, HR Giger. But they can breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that his legacy will live on in the minds and hearts of many generations to come. Giger is best remembered for his design of the alien xenomorphs from the 1979 horror science-fiction thriller Alien, for which he won the 1980 Oscar for Visual Effects, and its sequels. Xenomorphs were dreadfully scary creatures, and Giger based them on his painting Necronom IV. He took inspiration from artists like Ernst Fuchs and Salvador Dalí as well as the literary works of HP Lovecraft, but still remained entirely original. Giger’s speciality was he knowing exactly what would scare us as audiences. In an interview, he said that he didn’t want his alien to have eyes because that made it scarier; people wouldn’t know where it was looking and that would heighten the horror. This sort of vision was groundbreaking and space-shattering. Oh and, while we are on the subject of space, in 2018, an asteroid was named 109712 Giger after this man. However, his legacy isn’t limited just to xenomorphs: he designed a Batmobile for Batman Forever and worked on films like Poltergeist II. Furthermore, his art became a part of pop-culture; his paintings and art-work attracted many rock bands. Notably, Dead Kennedys used his painting Penis Landscape as a poster insert for their 1985 album Frankenchrist, and their record label almost went bankrupt defending the decision in court. Giger continues to influence interior design, fashion, and tattoos. In this video, we will talk about monsters who hail from different media and qualify to be in Giger’s museum, or at least in his heart!

May HR Giger meet up with Lovecraft on the shores beyond this world where they can discuss their eldritch creations over a cup of tea. They had both different yet amazing horror styles: Giger liked eyeless creatures, while Lovecraft had them with eyes everywhere Giger made sexual analogies in his creations, while Lovecraft made it something disturbing and profane Giger had his creatures more metalic and seemingly artificial while Lovecraft had them very disgustingly filled with biological bits However both had their creations made of dreams and nightmares.
@mnomadvfx

Giger was less eldritch, more biomechanical sexual. The eldritch ness was more of a bi product of the goal than the goal itself.

@@mnomadvfx Agreed. But THE big part about H.P. Lovecraft is that the monster represent the unknown and the intangible. Things out there that we humans could not comprehend due to us being too small in our minds to actually be able to fully comprehend them. That same sentiment is echoed through in King's works and not surprising to see him say he was a big fan of Lovecraft. I do have to say Lovecraft did it best. There are several video games that actually work well because they do take that same concept of humans being infinitesimally smaller than the big bads of the universe. The Sinking City is a pretty good example in that sense. It's often really hard to write and make cosmic horror entities because they're not supposed to be identifiable. Hence why he wrote them having no distinguishable features to humans.

Exactly! H.R.Giger's monsters are more "freudian" inspired by the repressed sexual and aggressive impulses and fantasies with both phallic and yonic symbols - while the lovecraftian monsters have to do with the fear of madness and body horror, a primitive irrational fear based on the unknown, that what we perceive as real and natural might be confronted by (another) altered reality and/or by unnatural beings.

6:45 -John KRANSKI ?!?. I like this channel's videos (a lot, actually), but they really need to start checking their content more thoroughly before uploading it. Repeated fact innacuracy like that will annoy people and cost viewers, when there's no need whatsoever for that to happen. It also gives the impression that the videos are more amateurish than they actually are. The writers/producers/proof-readers/script checkers etc need to up their game somewhat, i think. Yes, part of my problem with Aliens was that Cameron approved a design that was aesthetically less sexual than the Scott version. Sexuality and genitalia as both a deathly and life-giving force is essential HR Giger. The Alien skull, for instance, is supposed to be smooth in order to resemble a penis. This was an intentional element of his original Necronomicon painting.

It's basically like a couple of the critters here where it's an organism that seeks to assimilate the crew of a deep sea mining operation. It was a Soviet experiment that went awry. Not a great movie but a lot of fun. 2.) The Collectors from Mass Effect 2. They're very insectoid in their appearance and their backstory is truly frightening.

The entire point of life: Jesus did not come to be served, but to serve. Mathew 20: 28. We are no different. This entire life is a representation of the spiritual warfare going on. Good vs evil. God isn't a flying man in the sky, but the actual representation of Love, Hope, Joy, Peace, Light, etc. Not metaphor, but literally, like an extra demintional wavelength of thought, emotions, and intent. The devil is the opposite wavelength, pain, fear, hate, anger, darkness, etc. Human life is serving one of these two. Not a man in the sky, actual sentient collective universal Love. However, humans are primatives, we make mistakes. It's in our nature, since the fall, to go down the wrong path. This means at some time each one of us has served darkness to some degree. God understands our limited understanding of our own actions, so he gave us forgiveness, though sacrificing himself in human form as Jesus Christ. It is our duty to accept that sacrifice, get the forgiveness, and be better, helping others be better, and spreading this wavelength of Love, Hope, Joy, Peace, Light, etc, thoughout the universe. But God had to make a way for us to get to this place spiritually, this is why evidence is not allowed. Evidence will make you believe, using the fear of absolute punishment to change your behavior, but that won't make you better, just scared. Faith makes you better. It is what redeemes us, not our works. Faith is the hope that things get better, that justice always prevails, that we're at least loved by our creator. But it has to be Faith in Jesus, because of his sacrifice. And there can't be evidence to point us to him, because Love had to be fair. If there were a code in our DNA, what about everyone born before genetic sequencing? If there were a book with the solar system thosands of years ago, what would stop an evil person from hiding/destroying it? If it were something you had to go to, what about the geographically isolated, imprisoned, or enslaved. If it were a train of logic, what about the uneducated, or mentally slow? Not to mention all the people born before schools. Love cannot give to one without giving to the other. So the key to salvation had to be something everyone has access to. The only thing is Faith. This is why God puts it upon your heart to learn about these things, even if it's only to criticize, or hate. God is everywhere, because Love is everywhere, and so is the devil, because hate is everywhere. They're in your head all the time, regardless of weather or not you accept that. They whisper inside your heart, giving you ideas. But more than that, they're inside everyone's heart. This is how they get things done. They corrordanate us like pieces on a chess board. The only difference is, we get to chose who's side we're playing for. At the end of our life, we go to that team's home base, Heaven, or Hell. A place where all that exists is those wavelengths. Hate, pain, anger, fear, darkness; or Love, Hope, Joy, Peace, Pleasure, Light. The choice is yours to make. But you cannot go to Heaven with hate in your heart. You must forgive, repent, and spread joy for those around you. These are sentient eternal controlling forces in our universe. Heaven and Hell are very real places, I've seen them. Those steps prime your soul for a meeting with God. Very literally. Once you've done all four, in that order, you get divine revelation, with all the evidence you'll ever need. They are, forgive your parents, break down before Jesus, ask for forgiveness, and read the Bible. Step four takes three books to get the revelation. I recommend Genesis, Mathew, and then either Luke, Psalms, or proverbs. The order of the steps is important, step 1 has to come before step 3. I can state that for an absolute certainty that these steps always work. Please, take your salvation seriously. See for yourself. Do those steps. Jesus Christ is Lord. It's all True,

Okay I admit that I wasn't expecting to see anything I would like in this video. But apparently I did. I have very fond memories of the original Starcraft game series and it was a dramatic moment when I discovered what became of Sarah Kerrigan. And I've seen Stranger Things. A friend online had to make me watch before I could judge it to be a good series. Nice video.

The critter from Screamers looks more like a chameleon than whatever it was he said, um, a dinosaur and an armadillo(?) But with two legs, soooo, dinosaurs, I guess. And the monsters from Monsters are more lovecraftian than giger-esque as are a lot of these guys. In fact, most of these are Lovecraft not Giger type creatures.

When I watched the movie "A Quiet Place" for the first time, I had the strange sensation those "Monsters" weren't there to colonize Earth themselves, rather were some sort of bio-weapon sent specifically to Earth to exterminate humankind. Some sort of "first wave" attack sent by another intelligence. They can hear sound - they use echolocation both passively and actively almost to perfection, which means they were specifically engineered for hunting in the Earth's atmosphere and even underwater. Anywhere else - sound does not propagate. PLUS - as you've mentioned yourself - they kill but don't eat? ...something's gotta give...

I don't find the xenomorph scarier for having no eyes, though I have seen monsters as opposed to aliens with that same design and their are quite horrifying. I preferred to think of the sensory organs it has instead of eyes and the advantages/disadvantages of these organs over eyes. For e.g 1 of the 3 stooges Moe would be completely without an offence.
@potheadmike8510
@potheadmike8510 2 жыл бұрын
I can't help but feel, without a particular sensory organ, the antagonist is at a disadvantage when it's prey has critical thinking abilities. I get more a sense of dread, when say a ghost appears in your vicinity. It's gaze isn't aimed at you and It doesn't even seem to be aware of your presence. After a few tense moments, it all of a sudden looks DIRECTLY at you! That gives me the impression that the ghost is here specifically for ME! Not that they're a lot better off, with Moe in the lead. But without him, they truly would be the blind leading the blind.

Unless you're in space or something there's no way to be in an absolute silent place. THere's ALWAYS gonna be something making noise. Animals, flowing water, trees falling, THE FUCKING WEATHER, etc. The fuck do the creatures do during a thunderstorm? I really really hate to spoil those creatures for you....but....they are not aliens. They are angels....Death Angels. supernatural, not alien. Don't believe me look it up. Also this comment "As long as there's something that soundwaves can travel through, there's gonna be noise! Seriously so damn stupid and pointless', is seeing the forest for the trees. These beings can and do block out ambient sounds. I think I can get you a good example. Someone once asked a blind person about what they think about sight. He said he doesn't understand how people drive. There is so much to look at, so how do you focus. I think that is what's happening with these beings. Sound is vibration.

I wasn't going to say, until I saw this comment....the one that stuck out most for me was the Terran name. Though it is a good video, I especially like the choices in monsters, I am one of those that enjoy creature features that explain or show more of the monster. I watched slither and and few of the movies that had some of the monsters shown, however the explanation of where they came from and how their biology worked seemed a bit off. Like the zerg race, they were a creation from another races experimenting on biological adaptation and they worked by adapting the biology of specific chosen species for efficiency and potency.....some were passive animals given claws an teeth. The one from the movie life, was interesting they touched on that creature being silicon based, hence being so dangerous and capable of eating them lol
