#11 | Solo Sailing | Mainsail Ripped (2500Nm to get Home)

Күн бұрынAfter clearing the Pentland Firth the at the very top of Scotland I headed out into the Atlantic and started heading towards Iceland. Unfortunately, during heavy weather my first reef line broke as I was putting in the second reef and the ensuing stress on the mainsail turned a sail that was on its last voyage into a ripped and useless mess.

That quick view of the bilge and ballast transfer plumbing, showed a cluster of complex pipework and manifold. I'd appreciate a video on how it all works (sometime). I'm enjoying my armchair ride along.

Ah Doug, unfortunately there is not enough sticky-back Dacron on planet earth to breathe life back into that main… she’s pooched… BUT that doesn’t mean we can’t sail 2500Nm back home on it !

Roger.. as you can see I was already tongue in cheek about the music.. perhaps I will just deep six my aspirations to equal Erik Aanderaa’s levels of cinematography :)

@@CSMtheMariner there are some who just want cinematography and some who want seamanship. I would rather your advice about safety harnesses than his advice about how to make great looking film(without a harness!)

this is good feedback thank you - when I see Erik being successful with his style of videos, it’s easy to fall into thinking - ‘then that must be the way to make a sailing video- I must emulate that. ultimately however, I really only know about sailing … so, perhaps I should stick to that !
