For my senior Prom back in 2022, I wore a one button black peak lapel tuxedo with a low cut evening vest. Black satin bow tie (self tie obviously) and vintage patent balmoral oxfords. To match my date, I had dark green studs and cufflinks for my pleated front tuxedo shirt and wore a white and green boutonnière and white pocket square. It was an awesome night!

Lol, I remember my junior prom! I wore a black 3 button tux with a white point collar shirt, and this satin electric blue long tie with matching vest. 😂 I remember thinking it looked so cool back then (2004). Looking back, I wish I had gone with a more classic look!

My prom is going to happen next year and I've already planned what I'm going to wear. A black peak lapelled, single buttoned dinner suit with a black or burgundy cummerbund (got both, but haven't made up my mind yet), either mother of pearl or onyx shirt studs sith matching cufflinks, and a white, pleated french cuffed turndown collared shirt. To fonish off the ensemble I'm going to wear my black oxfords with a strong mirror shine to give off the aesthetic of patent leather dress shoes.

For the love of everything please don't ever get a powder blue tuxedo because you'll get a text from the 1970's saying they want their clothes back.🤨😒🙄😲🤯😁😜🤣😂🤣🤢🤮

Well, that is when I went to the pre-prom event, and it was powder blue because my family had a trip through Las Vegas planned for after graduation.

I did not get to my high school proms junior or senior year but made up for it the next year at the military ball in the U.S. Army. This video would have really come in handy back in the day in the 90's when I was in high school and was planning on going to the prom.

I was able to refine my evolving evening attire, as my school had two formal dances each year: a Winter Formal (aptly named Snowball) open to all grades, and Prom which was only open to Juniors and Seniors, but an underclassman could attend if his/her date were an upperclassman. Suffice to say, my first Formal, I wore a black suit with a silver pre-tied bow tie, a grey evening waistcoat, and a wing-collar pleated tuxedo shirt 😖I became a regular viewer of the Gentleman's Gazette at this time, and by my Junior year, I was wearing White Tie to every formal that my school put on! 😁😁 Thank you, Gentleman's Gazette; you helped me embody the spirit of Fred Astaire in my attire!

I don’t comment often, but I this video comes at a relevant time to me. I first stumbled across this channel during my freshman year of high school and have become a loyal follower since then. My senior prom last weekend was my first and only opportunity to go to my school’s prom, and being an enthusiast of classic menswear, I wanted to make the night count. Using all of the knowledge I gained over the years from this channel, I was able to build a wonderful custom black tie ensemble for my graduation present that I could wear for years to come (from Suitsupply, of all places!). My tuxedo was beautifully structured and fit, with grosgrain-faced lapels of a generous width, a hand-sewn lapel buttonhole, slanted jetted pockets (a deviation from the standard black tie doctrine, but a touch of personal style), high-waisted pleated trousers and a scoop front waistcoat to match. At prom I took advantage of our Great Gatsby theme to incorporate some vintage style elements from the golden age of black tie, including a boiled front shirt, a 2” detachable wing collar, a single end black bow tie, a white Marcella waistcoat to elevate the formality, my set of vintage matching cuff links and gold studs inlayed with mother of pearl (Purchased for only $40 from an antique store!) and a white Fort Belvedere carnation boutonnière to top it all off. I received many compliments that evening that others felt like they were truly in the presence of Gatsby himself! Whether most of these comments were made in jest, I am unsure, but it was confirmation to me at least that I had accomplished my goal of building my dream black tie ensemble, all thanks to this channel. Thank you GG for allowing me to look the best I ever have and changing my life!

I'm a class of 2020 so my school's prom was cancelled. Not that I minded, since a) Tickets were over $100 and from past perspectives, you only go for the afterparties b) In Canada, prom is not as big a deal c) I had nothing nice to wear

I went stag to my prom and I enjoyed it a reasonable amount, partly because I got to run formal gear without having to match a date. I was definitely a beginner and didn't want to rent an outfit. I bought an on-sale cream-colored linen sportcoat, used some black slacks I already had, and got ahold of a tuxedo vest (not a cummerbund, because I was dumb at the time). For a cheap thrown-together outfit, it looked like a halfway decent imitation of tropical black tie. I wouldn't wear it again, but at the time it looked pretty decent. My biggest regret in regard to that was wearing a pre-tied bowtie.

Prom's this Saturday for me. It's a 1920's theme and I'm going with a black tux, with a detachable collar cotton pique shirt and vest from white tie to try and evoke that transitional period. For accessories I have a black batwing bow tie (although I wish i could get my hands on a single ended one), a white pocket square, and a burgundy carnation from y'all to match my date's dress. The tux is from Studio Suits and the shirt, collar, and waistcoat are from Darcy Clothing. My shoes are simple black oxfords that I'm going to need to give a good polish 'cause I don't have the budget for a new pair. Thank you Gentleman Gazette! Your videos gave me much of the information needed to put this together.

Great video Nathan. Could I ask you a question? I got a suit from Pini Parma and I thought it was a good idea to take in about half an inch from the body of the jacket but now I am pretty sure that the fit is a bit too tight. Does anyone know whether this can be let back out a little bit again or is that now impossible since the alteration has already been done. I know the rule is that you can always get the jacket smaller but never bigger
@gentlemansgazette
@gentlemansgazette Жыл бұрын
It depends on whether your alterations tailor left the excess in the seam allowance - if the fabric is still there, it can be taken out again. If the fabric was trimmed away, then it's not likely you'll be able to let it out

Oof. Prom. I kinda think that kids should more or less get a pass for prom, in terms of style faux pas. There’s a difference between a fancy party for teenagers and a, like, a Debutante Ball. No dress code is gonna stop powder blue tux kid from wearing their powder blue tux, nor will it stop the juggernaut of tacky tux rentals pushing “standing out this year at your prom!” to kids who equate flashiness with dressing up.

I really like Nathan, but I personally think he needs to dress for his body type a little better. His outfits tend to make him look short and dumpy and I don't think he is that way. But his outfits appear to make him look that way.

These are teenagers. I doubt any teenage boys will notice the difference between a batwing or butterfly tie, or a silk vs. satin one. Or navy vs. black. And most will just look over your shoes if you aren't wearing the latest sneaker. And they will be laughed at for wearing a boutonniere or a pocket square. Those details are noticed by MEN, not 18 year old boys out for a party.
