In this video number {1139} Joule thief circuit | blocking oscillator | joule ringer | vampire torch. I explained joule thief circuit or self-oscillating circuit or blocking oscillator or vampire torch circuit or joule ringer circuit. It is is a minimalist self-oscillating voltage booster. it is small, low-cost, and very easy to build, typically it is used for driving small loads, such as driving an LED or multiple LEDs using a 1.5 volt battery. It can use nearly all of the energy in a single battery cell. Even far below the voltage where other circuits consider the battery fully discharged (or "dead"); hence the name. its this behavior suggests the notion that the circuit is stealing energy or "joules" from the source - the term is a pun on "jewel thief". The circuit is a variant of the blocking oscillator that forms an unregulated voltage boost converter.

Great circuit! You can use old batteries that were headed for the trash and get that last little bit of power out of them. I save my old 9 volt smoke detector batteries and use them in circuits that don't need a full 9 volts. You can hook them together to make a lot more voltage. I'm glad you take the time to make these "fun" circuits in addition to your "work" videos. To be fair, ALL of your videos are fun! Thanks and take care.

I have been struggling with this circuit for simple mistake I realised and figured it out. All the connections were correct, I could feel BC547 transistor I have used was getting/ ON and OFF or HOT and COLD by placing my finger on top of the BC547 transistor but I could not turn on the output load ' LED ' and also the 1.5 battery was getting hot which means I was stressing out/draining the battery Mistakes I have made : 1 : I have used 2.5mm of wire , I guess the wire was 2.5mm , it was not thin wire 2 :I have used Many turns of wire like 20 _to 25 turns ---------------------------- This circuit is fun May Allah reward you brother HASEEB ELECTRONICS From Somalia

Good morning brother Yes The basic error in wire size It must be less than 0.15 mm Otherwise it will draw huge amount of current. Thus bttery and transistor will get hot 20-25 turns are good If you want to increase more primary winding turns, then set base winding only at 20 or less

Thanks for sharing .. Can you do a circuit of an 100W HiFI Transistor Amplifier with 3 stages of Amplification with base, mid-range, tone and volume controlls and a push-pull output? Probably to drive a 12" speaker 8 ohms (Something practical)

when starts up, it needs around 1 volt, after starting, it keeps working until the battery drops less than 0.3 volt or 0.2 volt. basically it draws all charge from the battery while oscillating as free-wheeling action

It is battery sucker circuit Initially it needs around 1 volt Then it starts oscillating and it consumes a very little amount of current And it draws all current until battery voltage are less than 0.3 Volt and that time battery is "NO MORE"

Imagine if this could be developed further to solve all world energy needs.... house powered by 1.5v battery.... eventually space shuttle and space station powered by 1.5v battery haha!
