I have nerve damage that causes the muscles along the fibia to cramp violently for days on end. I also have either an entrapped nerve or a neuroma at the end of the tibia that is hypersensitive and I almost break teeth if I bang it. I am taking drugs, getting botox injections and using TENS and exercise. I am trying to get nerve relocation surgery as my team's only recommendation is to amputate above the knee. I refused. For anyone who just got an amputation but has not yet had phantom pain you are going to go through the most excruciating pain a human can endure. Be strong it doesn't last. "This too shall pass" should be your mantra. Learn to meditate it works. Breathe deep through the mouth and slowly from the nose. Get as comfortable as you can in the beginning and clear your mind. Think only about the breathing until you can do it without thought.

Good interaction with physiotherapist cum scientist based capetown , south Africa ..its more vital discussion about phantom limb pain ( higher cortical representation of brain) ofcourse post amputations patients experienced chronic pain itching irritation felt in amputated part ..being i am working in acute inpatient orthopaedic rehabilitation ..need to give physio for all post operative orthopaedic fixation joint replacement and arthroscopic repair and post spine surgery rehabilitation. Among them amputations also done by team of vascular surgeon orthopaedic surgeons and anaesthetists refer for stump physiotherapy i used to do some of the few patients have this phantom limb pain as a big problem so i started reading about 2 treatments 1) mirror therapy 2) graded motor imagery i have tried both ask the patients to perform 3 to 4 times a day 4 weeks ( 1 month ) totally his VAS comes down to 2cm or 0 ..its fabulous .finally i have got appreciated by vascular surgeon .then stump exercises bandaging helps to shape it healthy reccommended prosthesis and training given fr functional ability ....its a great work as a team physiotherapist can do ....and very new to know prophylaxis of tmr ..from this physiotherapist ..but my opinion if you start early these therapy it will recover soon. Thanks dr andrea for telecasting this interview ...when my day comes to interact with you ??
