Glad to find someone who uses theirs regularly. I have my Tao Tao with almost 8000 miles, in my second year of use and a daily commuter. I don't have a car so I use it here through harsh NY winters (yes, even in snow storms). Will definitely follow you. Thank you!
@jseden5 жыл бұрын
I've had one for 4 or 5 months now, have used it as my daily commuter since.. rode it through a couple snow storms early on, definitely a little sketchy.. Its a 2011 that came in new condition with 450km, also ended up with one of the 63cc ones. I let it sit for a month at one point and had to replace the carb after. its up to about 2000km now and has been reliable aside from the time I let it sit.. I just got around to changing the factory oil yesterday lol, Ive kept an eye in it since I got it and it never really looked that bad.

I have been driving basicly in winter in Finland because bicycling in winter is too hard to drive about 15 mile trips. With good tires and warm clothes and boots, it is near comfortable most of trips. Snow and ice not are big issue. Some troubles in scooter was electrical and belt issues. I carried tools and parts with in every trips for those troubles. In twelve year period I needed repair it on the road 6 times. Engine swap three times in twelve year. Best engine was with 69 mm valves. It was reliable and have more power than regular engine.

Mine has 7,000 miles on it. If you are not going to be riding for a few weeks or a month, take the battery out and put it on a trickle charge on the charger for a few days. Also only put high grade gas in it. And every month or so put in a bottle of that octane booster. Keep the oils changed regular. The carb will clog up if you use cheap gas.

When below freezing you can spray a little starting fluid into air filter box and it will start right up if cranking fast enough. If not cranking fast enough then spray and kick start. It will start even below 10F. May take a few minutes kicking it. Without spray, the kick start will likely break before it starts.

Just ordered it for a ATM50a but the YTX7A-BS is the exact same size as the battery box and 105 CCA! We'll see. The electric fuel enrichment (choke) starts CLOSING the fuel circuit the moment you turn on the key. We call these bikes in our town "DUI Scooters". 50 cc requires no helmet or lic or tags and mostly if you're over 18 and ride one it's because you have a DUI conviction.

I owned two of these bikes in Hawaii because there really wasn’t much else. As a former owner of a Kymco on the mainland, I can confidently say that these Tao Tao bikes are absolute JUNK. I am pretty handy and very good about keeping the condition of my bikes. But I had nothing but problems. They are made of cheap metal parts that constantly break. Even the rubber is poor quality. Yeah… They might cost a lot less but as the old adage says… You get what you pay for. If you want reliability and no headaches, stick with something like Honda, Yamaha or Kymco.

@fiftytwothirtyhoops96205 жыл бұрын
James Eden Damn bro, I bought my scooter in Mid-May and had it sitting for about a month or two... put about 10 miles on it and it started shutting off on me... when idle it would lose power and shut off on me. Could this be what you’re talking about? The carburetor?
@jseden5 жыл бұрын
FiftyTwoThirtyHoops dirty car could cause this.. might be a pilot jet issue. These have a very small (~.3mm) hole that gets gunked up easily. Some of the stock carbs are sealed at the factory to prevent access, in which case I'd just get a new one anyway.. if you can remove the bowl (bottom portion held on by three screws) then id just do that and clean the Jets. Search KZfaq for "kei hin gy6 carb" to find a good video on them. Since my earlier post, I've cleaned and switched back to the carb that came on the bike (was a higher quality aftermarket one) the replacement I bought was a generic one that I now just use as a parts doner... Recently had to take the float from it as my other one flooded causing inconsistent fuel delivery. You'll figure it out! These things are surprisingly easy to work on and parts are very inexpensive. There is also tons of info out there. A month ago, mine overheated causing the Piston to disintegrate.. I was able to do a full rebuild for $70 over a weekend. Have put another 1000km on it since! Good luck.
