From Ferguson to Chicago, recent high-profile cases of police abuse and racial profiling have sparked waves of protests and captured headlines. But generations of African-American men know these injustices far too well, their personal stories and stinging experiences passed down as a contemptible legacy.
A new reimagined production directed by Tony-Award nominee Stephen McKinley Henderson is giving voice to the stories of 12 everyday men from diverse walks of life - all of whom have been subjected to racial profiling. Based on the 2012 book, "12 Angry Men: True Stories of Being a Black Man in America Today," the production is poised for a national tour and is currently in an extended sold-out run at The Kumble Theater, presented by The Billie Holiday Theatre at The Center for Arts & Culture of Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation.
Join us at The Greene Space for a conversation with Henderson and actors Wendell Pierce (The Wire and Treme), Roger Robinson (Joe Turner’s Come and Gone and How to Get Away with Murder) and Stephen Tyrone Williams (Children of God). Hosted by WNYC’s Rebecca Carroll.

Why is it whenever there is a discussion about the plight of black men, a black woman has to be the moderator of the discussion? That actually speaks volumes about our plight. Why can't there be a another black man as the moderator? There never is a serious conversation about black men, without black women being present. However whenever there is a forum for black women, usually there are no black men even in the building. Even the million man march had a few black women speakers. When will black men have their moment?

Man you guys complain more than women. Just shut the fuck up if you’re just going to drone on and on Poor victim. Nobody gives a shit about you that doesn’t know you. That’s all you can ask for. So go do something nobody is holding you backnim fact blacks getnaccepted in lot schools and jobs for not even meeting requirements. Asians destroyed in that front as they come from good families that out education first. So quit blowing hirsecock at life. Be a man and do something. Again nobody cares if you succeed or fail. You will have more opportunities though. Just for being black. So you can still not meet the bare minimum academic standards. Or just need to hire more unqualified blacks people and turn away the qualified. Just based off skin color. It’s hilarious to me. And you whine and whine and whine. You think being a black man is like being handicapped. Too funny

Always ready to jump in a discussion about blk men, but would become incensed if a blk man used negative stereotypes to address and categorize their group. Yeah other groups prop up education in a sense that cheating and any other underhanded tactic to get ahead is not only welcomed, but encouraged. Won’t speak on that nor nepotism, but somehow a group that is regularly targeted to get the shortest stick must be the ones that perpetuate the problem and all the ills of society.

Mass Incarceration is planned by design to keep the black families severed. Our Black Men have been treated as 2nd Class Citizens. Pushed back. Denied and mistreated for decades by the white man. Now there are white men out here saying how beautiful black women are, and that they should marry outside their race. They know once they separate the black man from the black women primarily by railroading the black male into the penial system/broken system, that alone allows them to move in on black women, and now y'all got a message for black women? Injustice has caused so many black people anger issues, then they turn right around and as "why are you so angry black man and black woman? There's a reason and a cause for everything....they know why we are quick to anger....now they need to admit why Karen, Becky, Brad and Ken are acting out in ignorance/anger....but they don't wanna talk about that! #BLACKMANWEUNDERSTAND why you are angry and frustrated!

“Police brutality has never identified our problem. Our problem is one of complete captivity from birth to death, and coercion as the starting point of our interaction with the State and with ordinary white citizens.” "What freaks them out about an analysis of anti-Blackness is that this applies to the category of the Human, which means that they have to be destroyed regardless of their performance, or of their morality, and that they occupy a place of power that is completely unethical, regardless of what they do. And they’re not going to do that. Because what are they trying to do? They’re trying to build a better world. What are we trying to do? We’re trying to destroy the world. You cannot be a felon, you must work and save money to be able to travel. Many countries require proof of income and/or proof of networth & savings to get a visa to enter their country. So if you dont work, your primary income comes from government assistance, or you live in section 8 assisted rent apartments, forget about "traveling the world". Ironically, there are black men travel vlogs. Even outside of the US, their travel video have titles accusing countries like Israel, Australia, China, India, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Philippines, Brazil, Russia, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, and many more of "being racist". The titles usually say: Is _____ a racist country? Or Are people in _____ racist? You betcha, the rest of the world is taking notice of this new group of cheap travelers that seem obsessed with finding "racist people" and "racist countries" lol! Whats even more strange is that there are dozens of videos complaining that North African nations are "more racist" than the United States. If so many countries around the world are coincidentally all "racist" in the same way torwards one race, perhaps somebody has forgotten what the real definition of racism is. Especially when ONLY that one race seems to be universally discriminated against. There definitely something else going on besides everybody just seemingly being racist for no reason. Perhaps it's time for the group that's accusing everybody else of being racist, to start taking a look at themselves. Maybe even do some deep digging, soul searching, and self reflection/analysis. How could it be that countries all over the world which have never had slavery, never invaded/colonized Africa, and have no history of doing racist things..... Honestly be racist???

Low views and little comments from black people come from how hard the struggle is for black people and the way we are disregarded. Even black people struggle with each other on a daily basis. Black people have been separated in a big way and it’s all a part of the conspiracy. There is always an attack in the making on black people. And it is always deep and meant to hit them right in a gut wrenching way. But we are coming up. So many of us had to die for it. The new generation is becoming educated and powerful. Crimes have been committed against people of color by racist . If anything it's the racist that needs to be healed not the victim of racism . It is the intent and aim of a racist to cause the person whom he or she is profiling to experience pain and suffering . To ask a racist cop , what did I do wrong , implys an ignorance of what is occurring and why . I hate when someone says , he or she did this to me because I am black instead the proper view to take is to see that the person is under the influence of racism and as a result is mentally impaired and subsequently incapable of self control . Racist are socially dysfunctional due to their inability to deal with someone different from them . Why should someone who was racially profiled and was fortunate to have lived through the encounter carry the burden of explaining systematic racism to people who called themselves white . When we explain the pain and suffering caused to us by systematic racism we become like a victim at trial in a courtroom ,who has to relive the pain and suffering while looking upon the person that caused it throughout . A victim of a crime never gets over it and in some cases a victim begins to blame themselves as if they were responsible for what happened . In most cases of a conviction , a victim is given the opportunity to address the culprit and on many occasions a victim ask the question , why me ? Racism is comparable to a heinous crime where mental health questions arise . A person who is sick mentally is capable of doing anything in such a state ,any act by this person while in this state should be viewed as a deliberate attempt on that person part to adversely affect black people lives by means of his sickness . Any person who is prone random racial acts of violence has mental health issues and if such a person needs help what should be done to a person who is prone to deliberate acts racial violence !. If domestic violence is unlawful , why should racial violence remain lawful . Think about it , the anti lynching never passed . Black Lives do not Matter in a system inherently racist . The system was designed to benefit some not all . Those black who have attained wealth and status are the exception , not the rule .

This makes me sick. Nobody (both black or white) ever address that facts that there's a huge differences between Indigenous/Africans in America way before the Europeans arrived and Emancipated Africans that were forcefully carried here due to Slavery. Yes we might look the same but trust me "we" are not the same... research your genealogy and learn your ancestry. DNA genetics don't lie.

EVIL- SO far is like a wise client's adversarial thumb, that hitches rides and hitch hikes on many platforms when it see's defense is slack, regardless of the vehicle. There are two sides in every human scenario, respect must be applied, especially when it's not seen, often more than not it seems, depending on the parties. Questioning that which makes you feel uncomfortable is a Constitutional right, questioning another individual with a humanistic approach regardless of the cause effect must be used with wisdom, regardless who's wrong or right. Wisdom is not gathered in houses of worship, Congress, court rooms, campuses of Ivy league schools, panels or in audiences, it's to be put on at a moments notice, situations provide opportunity for wisdom and love to be displayed all day. No one wants to be talked to or acted upon in a disrespectful way, even Police, you already know, brother talks about self work, but not evil, evil has no regard for any flesh spirit, so what's the surprise when it shows it's face or has been allowed to hitch a ride in one of the most important social exchanges in public life! Evil enjoys one with no defense, like a bball game, if Steph Curry is hitting three's uncontested, and Golden State are winning by a point to point scenario every episode, then like evil, we like Curry will continue to exploit the weak defense. One knows evil exist, a wise son and daughter would become wisdom of the moment, instead of being hypnotized by evil, and then allow it to lower love and wisdom of the designer by handing it over to the adversary, whom you already know has an impartial job to do. One can not become wisdom, if you don;t have the proper instructor, this is where I come into play. Those of you who do not understand who the adversary is, what true purpose is, and how to adorn the shield, sword and helmet of righteousness email me at: KINGZOFKINGZS@yahoo.com '' IF BLACK IS A FACT, THEN HE WHO SPOKE IN THE DARK, WAS A MARK" '' IF YOUR LIGHT IS PERPETUATED BY WHAT'S RIGHT, THEN HE WHO SITS IN HIS HEIGHTS WAITS FOR YOU TO IGNITE, SO ALL CAN HAVE SIGHT" Those from LA know what a mark is..... “Throughout the first years of our lives we were forced not just to internalize a few aspects of capital, but to build up a structure of internalizations. As our capacity for coherent natural self-regulation was systematically broken down, a new system of self regulation took its place, a coherent system, incorporating all the aspects of self-repression. We participated in capital’s ongoing project of colonization by colonizing ourselves, by continually working at the construction of a unitary character-structure (character armor), a unitary defense against all drives, feelings, and desires which we learned were dangerous to express. In the place of our original transparent relations to our world, we created a structure of barriers to our selfexpression which hides us from ourselves and others.”Jay Amrod and Lev Chernyi, “Beyond Character and Morality: Towards Transparent Communications and Coherent Organization.” Howard J. My opinion it seems like as fathers and mothers it seems like Mother's is trying to raise their sons to be less of a man when it comes to doing things in life as a father told his son how to live a normal life that's my opinion because I was raised with mom and a dad but there's a lot of single moms they raised their kids the wrong way as a father the man of the house shows how what we can do we don't see that a lot so we have to stick together that's the falling point right there as black men and family.

If we are TRULY children of the MOST HIGH GOD, we must FINALLY do things HIS WAY: Our COLLECTIVE Prayers CAN change things. In OUR weakness, GOD WILL show HIS STRENGTH: 2nd CHRONICLES 7:14: If MY people who are called by MY NAME will humble themselves, and PRAY and seek MY face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I WILL hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal/RESTORE their land.

I listen to this and wonder what they complain about so much in this country, how is there systemic racism in this country? We have Black History Month, Black Business Month, Black Family Month, BET, Black Starz, Afro Channel, Black Music Month, A tv show called Blackish, We have Black goveners, and where i live all we have had is black mayors, sports like football is 80% black, we have Black News channel just for black people and thats just the icing on the cake, anyway why is that black people can make jokes about white people but when an white person makes an joke its racist and they get fired or banned, and black lives matter call themselves so peaceful then why did the burn down business, burn down house loot. if there was systemic racism like they say they woulnt have anything and now its frowned upon or even hated to even where an all lives matter shirt really? how is all lives matter racist plus i here black people say black power black pride and its totally normal buy white people artnt even allowed to say there proud to be white really whos being racist. I am not racist but i am sick of hearing this evey day on the news and on the streets so how is this country systemc racism:?

Being a black man in America really isn’t much different from just being a man in America, no matter who you are or what you look like or where you come from there will be someone who hates the fact that you woke up this morning. @Kriss LOL okay let's go with your definition of victimhood. If that's true, what the fuck use is there in sitting around whining about the already obvious? Wouldn't these black men be better off actually building said military and gaining control over their economies, political institutions, etc? That's my point. The point isn't whether we are victims or not; it's the identification with victimhood as if it's a defining characteristic rather than an unfortunate circumstance that is the problem I'm dealing with. My point: The victim mentality is counterproductive and disempowering. We need to get rid of it. It's okay to recognize problems and recognize oppression but we don't need to be wallowing in self-pity, looking for white sympathy.

If black communities were less prosperous than white ones it just proves that white people are better at building prosperous communities than black people. That also holds true when you look at white countries compared to black ones. Yet some black people don't try to work hard and improve, they just complain and try to tear down others.
