Played through Engl Ritchie Blackmore amp with Boss SOD (old Japan). Guitar used is Sivcak BW7GS with ash body, maple and wenge neck-through, rosewood fretboard, and DiMarzio PAF 7 pickups.

I am already there. Just finished a 115 cab w/ a 15" Eminence 1518 guitar speaker, a 112 with the Cannabis Rex, rewired my 412s, and I am finishing up on a homemade Leslie cab.

Texas heat with the greenback is like taking bright and dark together and making this thick BUT saturated tome that sound great in a mix

I think I'm feeling the Greenback/EVM combo. It's like the Greenback fills in the mids from the EVM and the EVM fills in the bass and highs for the Greenback.Thanks so much for making this video! The way you did it is perfect. Very easy to compare.

They all sound really good. I like the greenback and governor combo. The legend and governor combo is also pretty thick sounding.

Late post but really love this video, so many great choices. Texas Heat for sure because it just drives the riffs insanely had and clear. After that it becomes personal taste. For a growl use the Legend, Governor or EVM 12. For a crisper sound use the Celestions. But always use that Texas Heat.

Unfortunately, two speakers "separated" by 125 watts. Non-practical in a 2x12. But I agree, those two combined where the best (and standalone too)

@@JaimeNoro It doesnt matter the wattage rating. The sensitivity rating is what matters for if one speaker will outpower the other. Both are within 2 decibels according to the manufacturers' website.

@@mayhemer2798 but in a 2x12 that would be 50 watts when one of them is capable of 3x that alone. My ocd would freak out. Plus, with an amp like the one he's using here, it would be risky. Good for studio application though.

I find they all sounded pretty damn good. Just depends on what tone your looking for. The combination mixes sounded bad ass with the drums.

I've built a 2x12 with a Texas Heat and a Man o War and couldn't be happier!! It sounds killer with a modded 5150 block, EVH 5150iii 100wat, modded Marshall JCM 900, JCM 2000, EVH LBX, 6505+ and an ENGL Thunder 50. Eminence puts out high quality speakers with a flavor to fit any taste!! Sweet sweet 👂🍬🍭 Keep the music🎸🎼🎵🎶 alive my friends!!

Thanks for this video!!! My friend has a Krank cab with The Governors in it that I've been using for live shows because I played it once and it perfected my tone that I used for my own cab. I was trying to buy a Krank online just now, but only has with the Legends or Texas Heats. I was about to go for Legends version before watching this. Texas Heats sound amaaaazing! (based on video) Now I can compare it side by side to Governor in person with my friend's cab to make 100% certain if I want to get same speakers I'm used to, but from the sound of this video, I will be so happy keeping the Texas Heats! Thanks for saving me from getting the Legend built in ones!

Standalone I loved the EV12L, and hated the Eminence Governor. But...together they were my favorite combo. The EV12L gives the pure best metal tone and clarity, but is perhaps a touch thin on the mids - and the Governor adds this weird extra dimension, kind of like a depth that adds to the soundscape. It makes the riffs sound so full and clear that just comes through. I suppose the speakers people listen to this on will even change the outcome but here- this is what sounds right to my ear.

The cobclusion I took from this is: Is easy to dislike and discard a speaker in on itself and how amazing they could sound when paired with another speaker. Mad 🤘🏻

This was my favorite sound in mix, too, but in real life, there is a big difference in power between the two. I'd like to try this with some Creamback in the future.

If you skip around and do direct comparisons, everything sounds very muffled compared to the Greenback and EVM12L. In pairs, I think a darker one like the Governor pairs really nicely with either one.

Really good job Brian. This is a great example of how these speakers hold together in the low end and an excellent lesson in how mixing speakers can improve your tone greatly or just detract from it. Some great combos in there.

Hey! I ended up with V30 + Texas Heat. Built one box with V30 + Legend for my friend (he's happy more than a year now), and I want to build one more with V30 + EVM 12L for myself, but V30 + Texas Heat will remain my main weapon :) Anyway, it's a matter of taste as it is with most of the gear.

Really great demo, perfect for my actual needs. My choice would be legend + texas heat, 8ohm in parrallel to replace the stock seventy80 of my 2x12 80W tube combo, BUT, does anyone knows if the legend 1218 sounds similar to the 1258? Cause my amp slightly exceed the 75 watt rating of 1258. 1218 is cheaper and respect the watt rating, but can't find any good sound demo of it. Or 5 watt over is no big deal to get that exact sound? (Never play past half of my master volume)

It would have been great to hear the standalone speakers in the mix too, or mixes without track to compare mixes and standalones. I like the Texas + greenback much more than all other mixes but I'm not sure it sounds different from the greenback alone ! Anyway many thanks for the quality video, I would never had the idea of using a texas nor a greenback for metal, was only looking for swamp thang, v30, p50-e, dv-77 etc.

I have a Carvin Legacy cab loaded with vintage 30's. I'd like to swap out two of them for something with more bottom end. I hear the EVM 12's are the best choice for this but $250-$300 a piece is a little steep. Anybody know of a decent alternative?

I am using V30 plus Texas Heat now and I'm more than happy. In real life, aslo the V30 + EVM was very good, but yes, it's little pricey.

Whats you opinion on the Texas Heats for hard rock/ metal? Im looking for speakers, or a mix of speakers to put in a Framus Dragon 4x12 or a mix and looking for suggestions. It will be a recording cab more than I use it for live. Any suggestions or combination suggestions? I think the Framus is a fairly tight cab(not huge bottom end) and also a fairly bright cab. So Im leaning toward something more Bass and or Mid forward. Thinking I wanna stay away from overly bright speakers. Also dont want V30's lol. I like them but wanna do something different in this bad boy!

Hey! It's all about a personal preference. I really like Texas Heat! Ended up using a combination of V30 + Teas Heat in a 2x12 cab. TH is definitely more midish, and it has some kind of darkness that I like. Also, Krank used THs for their cabs (I found out just later), and Engl makes some cabs with THs, too (next to their V30s cabs).

Very well done dude! Standouts to me were the UK Greenback and surprisingly the Texas Heat. I find I dislike most eminence speakers, they sound like they have some sort of upper midrange "pinch" somewhere like if someone boosted 3k with a narrow Q. Didn't care for the governor or the legend but the texas heat is much more pleasing and worked very well with the v30 and greenback. I've got a UK made Greenback in the mail right now, makes me feel better about tracking that one down instead of buying a new chinese one. You should check out the UK made v30s if you haven't, they sound less fizzy to me. Mesa and Marshall both have their own UK made versions of the v30- Mesa's being darker, Marshall's brighter.

Man would you recomend the Texas Heat for the Blackmore? I tend to ignore Eminence speakers, but damn it sounded the best here. I might pull the trigger for one of them. How did it sound in the room compared to the others mate?

Hey! As you mentioned, in real conditions it might be (and sometimes is) different than in this record, which is normal. By the time I had uploaded this video I had my fav speaker combination already installed in the 2x12 cab. And it's V30 + Texas Heat! Before that, I have spent like 3 weeks using all possible combinations of these 6 speakers. I thought I'm done a few times and then I changed my mind after a couple of days. Then now, with my final combination been comparing my cab to Mesa, Engl and Orange cabs, and I am really happy now. Building 4 cabs, 3 ordered by their future owners now (just 1 will be without Texas Heat as ordered by client). Later, I've also found that Engl is building cabs with Texas Heats (as well as they do with V30) , and also the Krank was using them in their cabs. So yes, I'd recommend Texas Heat with Blackmore, but you know all that matters is ones taste and that varies from one musician to another :)

@@BrianBajak great reply man, thanks! Of course, all is subjective. I've used V30s for years and I thought they were very good, especially for recording and in a band mix. Not so good for quiet solo playing at home. The Blackmore is a very bright amp and in time I found that it benefits from darker speakers. The Texas Heat seems to be a great choice even though I always seem to prefer Celestions with other amps. Even the Greenback sounded better to me in this video, but unfortunately it's only a 25 watt speaker and I use a 2x12. Anyway, thanks again!

I cant decide between a governor or Texas heat. Mostly play metal, dual rec and a '93 5150, 7 string guitars tuned to drop G and drop F#. My V30s seem to get a bit farty and muddy going that low.

I am in a similar situation with drop G sharp or even with 9 string guitar... have decided for combination of Texas plus V30, and I am happy with it since making this video. But also, it is really a matter of personal taste.

How did you set up the speakers? Side by side? X? I love how the Texas Heat sound with the Celestion Greenback. I feel as though together they would sound great with my Peavey 5150 head.

Hi! For this test, speakers were recorded one by one and their combination is just a mix (one L, the other R). Later, in my 2x12 cab, I mounted them side by side. As for the Texas Heat and Greenback combination - I really like their sound together, but in real life they don't work well in one cab, the power capacity difference between them is an issue.

first the speaker combination I liked the most was Texas Heat and EVM 12L nice mix of everything without exaggerating anything and stand alone I like that Governor. thanks for the video man, i love the mixup vids.(which are not common) Please make more videos like this one, and ad the celestion V and A type and some the Jensen speakers, and if you can get your hands on som Panama speakers, all the mentioned speakers are cheaper to, and i think just as good, so make people on a budget happy, and sounding amazing....... sorry for my bad english

Texas Heat with EVM12L is the most logical pair when you look at the wattage they can handle. I love the Greenbacks myself, but it's not wise to pair that one with a 100 watt amp. Unless you are near the amp at all time. The risk it will get blown up is there when others give the cabinet a try when you are away from the the studio, practise room or the stage. Somehow there is always an idiot near who is curious and finds it necessary to turn the volume knob to 10 and then blow your speaker up.

I just bought 2 Greenbacks and 2 Texas heat speakers for my 412 cab , the sound is so thick and juicy , I liked the V30 but it was a tad to harsh , thin sounding for my liking .

Mixing V30 and G12M; that's it for me!

Everywhere I go.......greenback follows me. Specifically the original 70's greenback. But even the reissue sounds ok. I've seen a guy sand down the cone to change the tone and it worked. Sanded a lot off to make a change. If I found a reconed original to specs.....mine. combine that with a creamback or a Reaper (althought a bit weak in vocal tone). Legend sound great here however thebTexas heat worked best. This is also why I think a Celestion creamback and greenback would make a great combo. They both fall in a similiar range but don't get in the way of the other. They extend the range of each other and blend the similiar frequencies quite well,

Nice vid. The V30/Texas Heat and Greenback/EVM were my favorite combos, with the Texas Heat being my favorite companion speaker overall. The Legend was hot garbage and the one I didn't like in any combo or solo.

Solo: Heat #1, Greenback #2, V30 #3. Everything else just sounds off. Note you're playing a baritone riff so it's a very specific tonal range there. It'd be very different in standard I imagine.
