One of the best series on tv in the last 20 years! It's a real shame it didn't get nearly enough of a mainstream audience (10 years from now I can bank it's held in high regard like Breaking Bad and Game of Thorns, etc. It's close to perfect and has real re-play value to it! I wish it ran at least 2 more seasons (4 seasons isn't nearly enough for a story this deep and brilliant)

Duckman 1979 I agree it deserves more recognition and that it was perfect but doing it in 4 seasons was also a perfect amount. Breaking Bad had 5 seasons because they focussed on telling the story they wanted to tell just like this show. If you notice, the shows that lose value are the ones with a lot of seasons and where most episodes are filler like The Flash and Arrow or The Walking Dead. And sometimes it may have a lot of seasons and be good almost all the way through and then have a disappointing ending like Dexter or Lost.

i really liked the cast and definitely would have liked more seasons. when it comes to the storyline some elements seems already stretched and redundant though. the show still turned out fine as is, but i think with 3 seasons it would have been more straight and tight or the writers should have been better tbh.

ha ha dude don't make me laugh......it didn't get viewers cause IT SUCKED. unrealistic plots confusion...…...life and death did not really mattered anymore...…...it started well in season 1 and then by the end of season 2 it became ridiculous. cassie the mother ? that could not happen. instead of doing a realistic series they turned this in to a comedy. every day we jumed in the future and in the past. nothing mattered anymore. I remember an episode that thay said if u destroy jone's time machine then so be it...…...they killed jones...….nothing happened. they said...…..TIME INTERVENED AND THE DAY BEGUN AGAIN...…….more likely they said....GO ON SUCKERS WATCH MORE EPISODES OF THIS CRAP. SO DUDE...…………...IF U LIKED THIS CRAP THAT'S YOUR PROBLEM...………..I CURSED THE HOURS I SPEND TO WATCH THIS BEEP AND I WANT MY MONEY BACK. 100 TIMES I PREFER TO WATCH THE GREAT REALISTIC TIME TRAVEL SERIES BACK TO THE FUTURE RATHER THAN THIS CRAP.

The shows ending is astoundingly genius, in the Jennifer-Cole ouroboros loop where they tell each other that 'the right ending is the one that you choose' is true for the entire show and true for the the viewer of the show as they literally get to choose their own ending depending on their own interpretation of events and their own personality - it's very impressive writing. And it's a fairytale ending either way - the ending I chose is where they save time and Cole and Cassie are reunited and Jennifer tells Cole 'sometimes the right ending is the one someone else chooses for you' hearkening back to Athan telling Jones that there may come a time when a single life 7 billion may be one to many and that she should choose to save the one which she does by changing the primary code. But it's also kind of a dark fairytale ending if they're all in the red forest and the prophecy of the primary is that the true witness would be Cassie because 'she fears loneliness and nothingness' and Cassie is ultimately the one who defeats Olivia and chooses to bring about the red forest and be with Cole forever because she loves him too much to let him go. It works either way, THE RIGHT ENDING IS THE ONE YOU CHOOSE!

well said, couldn't say it better myself. Although i don't necessarily agree with your multiple ending theory. The show always shuffled back and forth primarily from 2 points in time, the present and the future. After Cassie chose to save the world and not bring on the red forest, which is what happened at the end in my opinion, granted we are taken first to Cassie in the beginning of 2013. The reason for this is because as stated with the time travel shots time will happen around her unlike everyone else. We're taken to the first scene of the series back in 2013 because that is the only earliest point where she would be able to remember what occurred with Cole and the future. She cannot recall any events of the future that occurred before up until the first time she was suppose to meet Cole, which is why shes on the phone with ex bf Aaron. Once she enters the car everything comes rushing back to her because that is her first moment when all her craziness began. That is why she's looking in her backseat for Cole but he's nowhere to be found. Naturally she goes to the Emerson when her fears become a reality. Cole has been erased from existence. As far as the scenes with Jones and grown up Hannah, Ramsay and son, and an older Jennifer with Deacon, and his brother at their bar are scenes not from Cassie's point in time, 2013 and the following years but are happening in the new 2043 where the timeline has changed for good. There's no virus to wipe out mankind because Olivia is the cause, as shown when sliced in half and transported to 894, completing her cycle. Showing that scene justs shows how she played a role in the original timeline by being the body the virus came from. In this new timeline she would now never be able to be that virus infected body due to the fact that she is a child of time travel. Since time travel never existed neither could anybody associated with the forming of the Army of the 12 Monkeys.

@@jonsnor4313, I think there's more evidence for it not being in the Red Forst, but I like that things like this make it feasible, and the uncertainty adds to it. For example, if Cole is in the Red Forest then when he appears on the beach, it isn't Jennifer who he meets but Time herself, so her words about Time owing him one have more meaning. But my bets are on it not being the Red Forest.

@@UteChewb it seems to me that jones may have created a sort of "red forest" in the final timeline when she programmed cole to be reinserted back as a paradox that seemingly has no beginning (because latest timeline hannah can't be his mom, he now has "no mom"), and if cole has no beginning in this timeline, then he also has no end. that cassie has all the memories despite not living through any of the events means that the concept of the red forest somehow got created by accident, allowing for all of the other "timelines" to somehow exist in cassie's mind even though she's not in any of them (the past, present and future being blurred together in the "now"). although it's not olivia's red forest because time didn't collapse in on itself, it's like an entirely new cycle of the red forest itself, one that's more evolved from the last, because it's canon in the show that changes in causality forces time to evolve. it is still cole and cassie's happy ending, and the show did not give any other hint into the future other than the red leaves of the trees (which could just be autumn, but let's be honest, it's not as simple as that). it might actually be a red forest that's better than what olivia wanted, without the insane constant destruction of everything all at once and forever. jennifer is in the loop because she's still primary, so she confirms to cole that he earned his existence and future with cassie, although i think this ending leaves just enough room for a possible future cycle for the show, all tied in a neat red ribbon that works just as well as a happily-ever-after/now.

i just finished watching the entirety of all the 12 monkeys series's for the second time. as for the red forrest creating a persons perfect moment, there are 2 things that are supposed to happen, firstly its supposed to do exactly what it says on the tin (Forrest becomes red) and what we've seen happen in the series when the paradoxes and time travel stuff is effecting time (turning plants and stuff to red), and the other thing its supposed to do is create the persons perfect moment to re-live over and over again WITHOUT time being a concept, meaning no days going by again and again or doing work then coming home etc. Cassies perfect moment would'nt involve desperately waiting around for cole in the ceder house and being rejected by the emerson hotel staff. Also the mistake she made was using cole's real name when asking for him there, we see when cole first finds out about the emmerson and rents out a room alongside jenny with him (who claims it was'nt HIS first time there, even though it was himself's current self's first time there) the name they give is morris morrison, or something fake and goofy lol, i know for sure it was'nt his real name. he ends up getting a room next door in like 609 i believe because 607 is being watched at the time. Also the clerk told cassie they stopped selling out rooms as a perminant residence since the 1940's, but did'nt cole buy the room sometime in the 1930s? probebly 1944 if i'm not mistaken i did at first kind of believe that cole was dead or having his red forrest moment when waking up washed up on the shore, it felt too good to be true lol. i think all timelines are continually running at the same time, it feels like nothing got erased but rather prevented instead. But then... how did cole appear washed up on the shore if his past was in the future as a scavenger with ramsees? ramsees was also a scavenger at the time so him being in the past with a child already born makes no sense, unless their former selves (cole in kid form left at the orphanage place WITH kid ramsees) also exist in the same timeline. This can cause a paradox intentionally if they ever decided to come in contact with eachother. This part we know is speculation. BUT we do know old jenny in the bar with deacon exists in the same timeline as young jenny on tv, meaning they can come in contact with eachother and cause a paradox. At the end everyone appears to be living a happy life, but the red forrest only gives a person a perfect moment in their own head, or a persons own perfect moment rather than everyone having their own perfect moment at the same time and be able to interact with eachother. IF the red forrest did happen, then we woulda seen the doc from back to the future (the tall man's dad/botonists dad) having his perfect moment playing that kids game toy things with his wife, AND the tall man spending time with his dad, as moments before he seen his dad get shot in the past by the hg wells detective guy the dad says to him "see you again when the forrest is red" or "see you later in the red forrest" or something before provoking his own death. Olivia's perfect moment was probebly the idea of being the withness, that being her goal and moment of perfectness that she was hoping to achieve as her main goal, having her body blasted from 2043 all the way back to year 800 or 900 and something probebly her death moments after such a long jump in time had caused her spirit spirit to become timeless,and thus the withness in spirit, but a dead virus body in the flesh. or maybe not, that last part about olivia i just pulled outta my asss last minute, but it could be something. a small bit of speculation i wonder about. Everything is put in place to happen again, back to where it was origenally, except for cole and ramsees and future jenny

Personaly I think they made it, they saved the world. Also, even if they didn't, the characters like Deacon or Jones are not "older than they should be in 2013", we just see them like they became, without the plague. Plus, in Deacon's bar, Jennifer is older,it means they are many years in the future, maybe 2040, but when she finds Cole, she is younger, then if it's the Red Forest I don't think she would aging (until what age? If they never die, they won't aging infinitely, this wouldbe stupid).
@jonsnor4313

They saved the world for sure, but i think time sent cole as consequence of isolating him from time in the red forrest, which it now can control and give him somehow his own bubble reality with fake cassie there. Sort of a "heaven" for cole. I like that this version is still sad but ends on a happy tone for everyone else. It make the most sense too if you just dont like the way too cheesy end scene, that could be in the red forrest time as jennifer giving him at least a fake happy ending.

As the show did, those scenes are switching back and forth with all other cast members in the new 2043 while the scenes with Cole, young Jennifer and Cassie are in the present, between 2013 and several years after I guess. Personally I think the ending truly happens, and just the leaves turning red is autumn and thematically the true red forest aka perfect moment, while the red forest of time being screwed is not in effect. A bunch of the other stuff just seem like explanations or time skips to show how life played out. Like the scene with athan and Jones is just from inside the jinn, explaining her final thing to save Cole.
@maggyfrog
@maggyfrog 8 ай бұрын
this is nice, but it's way too neat for the show. i do think that it's both a happy ending and a more evolved version of the red forest, one where jones doesn't break time and reinserts cole as a paradox that has no beginning (or end). so long as the timeline has inside it an element of time-travel paradox, it's not fully restored to the natural order of things. the ending of this show is like the happy ending version of the neflix scifi show "dark". dark actually made the audience confront the loss of all the people who were not supposed to exist and it was a very sad and bittersweet ending, while 12 monkeys gave the audience a much happier ending, but i think it is through a form of the red forest where olivia doesn't win.

AWESOME! What a great theory. Dude you Rock! Please don't take any contradiction i'm about to suggest as disrespect because you the man! I owe you a beer and truly love your theory!!! The only problem I find with it is the 12 Monkeys universe is not Back To The Future where each action caused an alternate dimension/reality. In 12M there was only one timeline where they had instant confirmation of how, and if, their actions changed the timeline with nose bleeds, memories, a scratched watch, etc,. It was solid and in the end was what made this series great! The problem that had to be solved was how could they break the circle that they lived in and contributed to. It was complex and direct. From beginning to end it didn't leave it sloppy or open ended for us to guess or debate like Lost did. To start I have to question if Olivia could have really beat them, and time, by accident? How was she going to break the circle with the Red Forest when she clearly didn't have a good plan. She fumbled, guessed, cheated and bungled what her ego didn't understand. Pardon the pun but she was like a monkey humping a football. This makes me ask if time (within the laws within the 12M universe) would just say "aww what the hell" and allow her to succeed in undoing time and creating the Red Forest while Cole and the Primaries had to figure out a precise puzzle to end the apocalypse. Time was clearly on Coles side HAHAHA, the song should be playing in your head now MUAHAHALALALA. Also wonder if time would allow the death of everyone (including all primaries) if it depended on people to help it along. I don't think so. But that's not definitive and you are correct that the wrap up shows happy endings that could almost be too happy for everyone. So how do we confirm which ending was the right one based on the laws of the 12M univers? Here are my thoughts and i'm open to criticism so please correct me. From what we see everyone gets the life they hoped for and that's where we find the solution to the real ending. We know the Red Forest did not create a dream world of what you wanted to happen. The Red Forest would only let you relive the best parts of your life with the ones you loved that had actually happened. So If Cassandra didn't hit the button and the Red Forest had happened those "happy lives" we saw could not have happened and could not have been everyone's "Happily ever now" because they never took place to begin with. Only if those lives had actually been lived before the creation of the Red Forest could they have been real and relived in the Red Forest. This shows that Cassandra did in fact hit the button ending the cycle, killing the Red Forest, making everyone's "happily ever now" real. So the only solution is Cole won, all his travels were erased except the last one and he was spit out the end like they explain. However this creates another question. Since Cole was the only one born as a result of the time travel circle and was the son of Hanna who now never went back in time and never hooked up with his father how could he exist in any reality including the Red Forest? That circle was broken so he was the only one who could never have been born in either reality. Does this mean Cole was an extreme case of immaculate conception with no mother and no father making him the biblical son of god who died and was reborn so all of us to live? I'm not religious but have to make the connection with all theories and ask what this makes him?!? Cheers!

Just finished today. WOW!!!!! Hannah is Cole's mother WHAT A TWIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AMAZING! Remember how when anyone came into contact with another version of themselves they would spark and then paradox? We saw that with Jennifer and Jones but that did not happen with Cole. Because unlike every other person alive, Cole is the only person born out of time. For example, we can trade your family back 60 generations. We cannot do that with Cole..because he saved his own mother, which allowed him to be born. MIND-BLOWING. S02E08 Lullaby was absolutely my favorite episode and likely the most important episode of the entire series, in terms of clues. That was the episode where James and Cassie are stuck in the time loop and they are slowly dying each time they fail to solve the puzzle. The groundhog day episode is where the show actually begins, because that is the episode where Hannah is saved. Hannah is saved by Cassie but no one else knows that Cassie then gives baby Hannah to Jennifer to raise her as one of the daughters fast forward Jennifer presents Hannah to Jones later Jones sends Hannah back in time and has her sit around for two years Hannah finds Emma. Hannah and Emma flee. They run into Matthew Cole Emma dies. Hannah "falls in love" and James is born Hannah bails on her baby daddy Matthew raises James alone Matthew is murdered by Tall Man in 2015 James goes to an orphanage and meets Ramsey -- 2018 plague occurs -- In 2020 Hannah dies at Spearhead from untreated meningitis Jones continues Splinter research to create time travel (to save Hannah) Elliot bails on Jones after she is unable to cope with the loss of her daughter Over the next twelve years, all test subjects die using the machine Cole and Ramsey break from West VII and eventually make their way into Raritan Cole is selected as a test subject For unknown reasons, he is the first successful test subject --Fast forward-- James and Cassie enter an unknown loop (S02E08 AMAZING), Hannah is saved by Cassie but no one else knows that #REPEATALL That is the loop that broke time. James Cole is the only person (I am ignoring Ethan) born outside of time. To me this means all of the events of the show are happening on a different branch of time that is unsustainable, so time is breaking down, hence the destruction of everything. The only way to end this PARADOX is to erase it from existence Amazing show ending! Lots of info here - 12-monkeys.fandom.com/wiki/12_Monkeys_TV_Series_Wiki

I'm pretty sure the happy-ending scenes took place in their respective time periods. So, Jones, Deacon, Ramse, etc were shown in 2043, and Cassie and young Jennifer were in 2013. That is why I think Jennifer was old in the scene with Deacon. There was only one of her seen in 2013 and 2043. But, I could be wrong.

just saw the ending(i know im late) and i always thought thats its a good show but its the ending which makes it amazing with everything coming full circle. unlike game of thrones which was amazing (almost perfect) and then got worse and the finale was so bad that the show is irrelevant now. 12 monkeys managed to finish in a great way and that is quite unique in tv shows (or even movies these days...)

This was genius writing you have to literally sit back and think about it for a minute before you can understand the ending or some of the scenes my favorite character is James Cole and Jennifer goines. With the extra special touch a future James Cole and a future Jennifer goines

I just finished binging the series for the dozenth time, and the part with Athan is pre-erasure. Because once Cole was erased, there was no plague or need for project Splinter, which is where he was meeting Jones; when she first got there after leaving Spearhead after Hannah dies. Its just a flashback of that timeline. Otherwise, we could say the whole show is proof he didn't get erased, because none of it would have happened it he had. I actually think that he showed up there just before he went to Titan (maybe he stole those guns from them), and lied to Jennifer about knowing what the symbols meant before he left her. He knew he couldn't just tell her, or he'd fuck up the timeline. Maybe he'd just been seeing fragments of the symbols, but something in the drawings Jennifer showed him he was finally able to understand. Then he went to Jones to give her that message, _then_ to Titan. Its the only point in his timeline I think he would have. Before that he wanted the Red Forest to happen, I dont think he would have been like "well, if he gets erased I wont exist and the Forest will never happen, buuut just in _case_ they win, I should really save my dad I had beans with for 5 minutes that once, and that time he didnt shoot me in the face was nice". I dont really see his motivation before they talked in the house. And after Titan he was...well, dead.

Hey, cool video. I sort of agree with this. But only sort of, I do like how it was open to interpretation though. That was because writer Sean Tretta's stance was also your take on it. He viewed that Cassie is the true Witness and that the entire plot had been building to her being the one to unleash the Red Forest. There is a lot of references to this, such as when the primaries in the middle ages period said to Olivia that she isn't the true witness..that the true Witness had experiences "true" loneliness. While I agree with your multiverse theory, there are some flaws...the Cassie that died in 2017 in season 1 either..she was erased from the timeline in 2:02 (as evidenced by the scratch on her watch disappearing after she died). So our Cassie dies a year later in 2018. My theory is sort of a combination of sorts..I think that, the ending really is that Cole succeeded. But that there is a never ending paradoxical causality loop. Cole is forever creating and erasing himself to different outcomes. Sometimes he gets a happy ending, sometimes he doesn't..but this Cole had actually managed to stop Cassie from activating the red forest, where previous incarnations failed (607? maybe!).

I know what you mean!. I was having a massive debate with someone over whether this show was better than Fringe. Personally I believe Fringe to be a very flawed show..it's first season was a x files rip off..got slowly better. season 2 only got great after it's first half. season 3 was pretty great. 4 was a huge misstep and 5 was good but had issues. but this person didn't believe that a show cannot not have a lag..but I honestly dont think 12 monkeys does. everything in almost every episode is there for a reason. I cant think of 1 mediocre episode. and after season 2..I cant think of a episode that is less than amazing. Every time I put on a episode, I learn something new.

I believe there are separate timelines involved. One where Cassie ends up sans Cole and the rest are happily ever after and another where somehow Cole still ends up being born and ends up with Cassie without any Plague at all, maybe Olivia's corpse never gets discovered and again everyone lives happily ever after . This would be what I would call a Causality Paradox: things happen all over again (since Cole exists, so does time travel therefore his existence is guaranteed by Hannah going back in time to birth him) but in an an alternate way. The other Olivia timeline exists as well, one in which that version of time flow is forever stuck in a different loop and the Red Forest is just another Causality Paradox. Did I make any sese ? ;)

The only thing that bothers me with the show is in s4 how Jones comes up with "how to make time travel work", her future self comes from the future and tells her, she writes it down, gets drunk, forgets about the encounter and uses the notes she took, but this way being a loop, there isn't a point in time where she figures it out by herself

Missed hint regarding Deacon, he gives her the knife then says "I'll want this back some day", implying that she will give it back to him 'someday'. One thing I've realized about shows is that they don't just say or do things for no reason(most of the time). So subtle things like this can reveal future happenings in the show. Also Cassie states that they will need 'everyone' to pull it off. Well, everyone would include Deacon and since they already screwed with causality by bringing back Ramsay, it was simply a foregone conclusion that Deacon would make a reappearance. Side note, best Series finale ever.. Like seriously, the finale was better than most of the regular episodes and didn't leave any loose ends. Better than breaking bad finale really, since 'you don't see a body bag".

@sizlax
@sizlax 5 жыл бұрын
@@oanastanoi7006 That is actually an excellent point. Her knife being destroyed would make no difference, as she had already received it from the older Deacon in the past. However she should not have technically been able to receive it as the earlier knife was destroyed before it was given to her. But then if you consider the definition of a paradox, well, there you have it I suppose.

Great review. I disagree that they are in a multiverse of the Red Forest. I think 75% we had a happy ending but I like the bit of doubt, adds to the finale. Most of the events post Cassie-turning-off-the-console (or not) don't fit a Red Forest scenario. Deacon and Chicken walk away planning how they will collaborate to do all the stuff they have to do ... that can't happen in the Red Forest. Also when Cassie remembers Cole while sitting in the car she is so sad, and that sadness lasts a long time. Eventually, she buys the House of Cedar and Pine, but we never see her in it, and she just sits on the steps grieving. None of that feels like Red Forest material. But, as I said, I like the element of doubt. BTW, I regard this as one of the best SF tv series I've ever seen, and frankly (if I can be frank, cos you've got moxie and I like your tie) I can't think of any that beat it.

I kinda agree about the fact the ending is not what it looks like at all, even tho i don't fully agree with you, athan scene is a flashback so i don't believe about this alternate verse or whatever. I personally believe that What we see after that last splinter is a "reward" to Cole from time, kind of his red forest and i think it's pretty obvious, the whole moment cole sees white like he was in heaven/the last leaf / the fact Jennifer was here (or am i missing something about that fact being not normal?) . something in this show almost never changed before that, it wasn't shinny, the whole last part is too much like that and doesn't fit the show at all to me. Of course you choose the end you want but i think that this one fits the most the whole show: Cole was gonna save the world at a cost.

I am super late to the party, having only watched (binged!) the show over the past week and watched the ending late last night. But I think you're missing the clues that what we are shown in those ending segments are flash-forwards for the different characters, they're not all taking place in 2013 (you can tell this because Hannah is grown up, Ramse has his son, and a 2043 version of Jennifer is with Deacon and his brother. Yet, when Cole wakes up on the beach, he's met by a waiting young version of Jennifer Goines, which points to Cole's return being somewhere in the 2013-2016 or near-abouts time period. That said, I hadn't even considered a multi-verse potentiality, so with my immediate rewatch of the show I'm going to keep that in mind and see what little things I'm able to pick up on. Already in episode one are bits from season four, so I cannot wait to see what else can be found in the rest of the episodes.

The right ending is the one you choose. Which says a lot about people in what ending you choose. Are you cynical or do you believe that love and teamwork actually works ? Do you think Cassie’s fear wins over her love that truly sets so truly exists ? The ending we choose says something about us and not about the show and I wanna believe that when we believe in something when we love and we work for it, we celebrate victories, one by one. I guess that’s how society evolved. Step by step, victory by victory and the belief that humans deserve a better life full or nows that mean something because it ends.

Also how would she know what button to press to stop the machine with 5 seconds less. If the machine was shut down then wouldn't the earth still look destroyed? That whole reversing the erosion of the earth didn't make sense. I also believe that maybe they threw that red leaf tree to confuse people. There's lots of trees with leaves Like that. I believe time was seen as a sort of God and entity and did let Cole have that because remember that episode where they went to save hannah when she was a kid and they had to trick time? Time obviously had its own agenda plus Olivia went back to the beginning as the origin of the kalavirus so it makes sense time would let Cole be alive because they'd eventually find Olivia's skeleton. The plague would come back eventually. If it was the TRUE red forest Olivia would've had a happy ending for those few seconds she was alive because the red forest is all time until the beginning and the end. Like a sort of heaven.

I asked the writer in twitter and instag and didnt answer. Its kind of enough answer but I neeed to ask. Thanks for the video! The question: When Deacon's army come to the rescue, how does it travel to 2043? It is where Olivia find that they are, according to Part 1 of the finale after the red forest encounter with Jennifer. So in 2043 there is no "young" Deacon. How does old Jen finds the army in 2043? The machine had almost no energy, so no army-jumps. She had red leaves or injections for them? Dialogue error? Plot hole? I can take any excuse, like I love the series thanks! And liked the end, Deacon have his brother at least. He wanted Cassie but he can have another gf in the new world. They change the timeline that's the Red forest

the red forest couldn't have been in 2043 b/c that was the beginning. If it had started in 2043, where was it all this time in the original timeline?

It exists outside causality. When it happens, it engulfs all time periods at once. So he’s right. It technically did come about in 2043.

Just finished it and theres something I dont get. Marion was supposed to not exist. Cole could not exist in order to time travel to save Hanna for her to become Marion.

I really didn't like the ending until they showed the red leaves which at least gave me an out of the sentimental overload that was the last two episodes. Personally, I wanted a scenario where Cassie was going to choose the red forest (they'd been setting it up), and because of that James had to erase himself from the timeline to stop her. The red forest winning is also a good ending though (that's what I choose to believe). Unfortunately, it's just a hint and the crappy surface ending is the one most people will take. For a show that had been so good with conflict and hard choices to kind of throw it away in the end for a avengers endgame type thing was disappointing. I don't think there's anything in the show to indicate multiple timelines; either the red forest happens or that ending is real ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I respect your point of view but I think the red forest isn't really the best ending because the main characters spend the whole series fighting against it and they did everything to stop the witness from creating the red forest and if it ends up by them creating it after they take titan and finally being able to stop it would sound a little ridiculous.
