Robots have a long history in science fiction films, with new and horrifying types arriving every year to frighten and intrigue spectators. Over the years, various types of robots have featured on the big screen, some of which are more dangerous than others. These deadly robots have appeared in a variety of film genres, ranging from science fiction to action-packed blockbusters and horrifying horrors, leaving audiences concerned about the future world that would be dominated by robots. Robots have a long and terrifying history in science-fiction films, dating back to films like 1951's The Day The Earth Stood Still, which introduced planet-destroying alien robots. However, humanity has managed to create a number of lethal robotic monsters on its own, which have terrified and intrigued sci-fi movie fans for years.
Hopefully, none of the following frightening movie robots will follow the trend of science fiction becoming reality, or humanity will be in grave danger. While there have been a few helpful and even endearing robots on the giant screen, killer robots, malfunctioning droids, and misguided sentient artificial intelligence have ruled the sci-fi genre, which we'll be delving into further today as we look at some of the most terrifying sci-fi movie robots.

I've never felt more despair for characters as I did watching the updated Sentinel for X-Men.
@That80sGuy1972
@That80sGuy1972 2 жыл бұрын
They did the Nimbus upgrade and took it to the next level, something that was never supposed to be encountered without the advanced Sentinals (like Nimbus) going back in time with its newest technology to "fix the mutant problem". They goofed with who they used for the adaptive template if they wanted to say whose DNA was to be converted into Sentinal adaptation, they should have used Darwin's DNA or any other number of adaptive-based power Marvel Mutants... or even any with a healing factor because that's down-low super-adaptation. If only those people who wrote the movie scripts were life-long X-Men fans or even had such friends in their lives advise them, the MCEU would be far better.

The most terrifying robot from the Robocop franchise was Cain not ED209.
@That80sGuy1972
@That80sGuy1972 2 жыл бұрын
Technically, he's a cyborg controlled by a human brain with the original human persona, like Robocop, so not quite a robot. And, because of that, he was the most terrifying tech monster... a brain running a war machine that has a severe addiction to a narcotic. Robojunkie... and Cain was also brilliant and cruel... evil genius Robojunkie. Robocop not killing that thing when he did would be like a crackhead, Kingpin (Marvel), and any science fiction story runaway warbot combined into one being. Terrifying, yes... robot... almost but not quite. A cyborg is only a robot if the driving force is not an organic brain but a cybernetic (inorganic) one... using the meat side (organism) of a cyborg (cybernetic organism). I won't even get into the distinction between droids and robots, that's for another long-winded distinction. All droids are robots but not all robots are droids, I'll drop it with that.

The movie Runaway with Tom Selleck and Gene Simmons had these spider robots that injected the victim with acid. I thought those robots were both scary and cool, at the same time. I used that idea for a 4 legged robot I made, that ran on a TV remote. It used a basic stamp for the brains, and was incredibly slow. I always wanted to make a better prototype with a raspberry pi, but work takes a lot out of me. I had some scary ideas like a robotic snake that captures victims alive, where claustrophobia takes hold. Scary for the witness of the victim also. That snake idea would only be good for a movie, because of the complex mechanisms, to make it work. I had some more practical ideas for robots also. I should really write these down.
@That80sGuy1972
@That80sGuy1972 2 жыл бұрын
Special effects available on top of the budget allocated were the only things limiting the Runaway robots. The robot spiders were supposed to be horror-story creepy and agile, robots that were as agile as spiders, but the 80s tech and the budget allocated would not allow that. They might have made it better if a big chunk budget wasn't used in hiring the actor tier it did and a rock star as the bad guy. I mean, that super-smart bullet that changed direction extremely fast, as well as the scanners, were far higher tech than the robotic technology presented. If they did the movie right, it would be far less of an 80s action movie and more of a cyberpunk style movie. Given what they had available, it was perfect, as good as they could make it. The Terminator movies took that cinematic future tech and ran with it better. They just jumped the shark with the storytelling as of late.
@paulforester6996
@paulforester6996 2 жыл бұрын
@@That80sGuy1972 as a kid, I feel I knew what they were going for, so I forgave the crappy 80's special effects. That bullet effect impressed me, and I thought those were great ideas, even if the special effects weren't there. Another movie that looked into the future, but handled special effects better, with the limitations of the time, is the movie Looker. They predicted photorealistic computer models of people in the early 80's. That movie scared me because of how many things in that movie that became real. The whole plot was about a plastic surgeon framed for murder, by a advertising company, that scanned their model's into the computer to be rendered, then they kill the model, to get all the model's royalties, having the plastic surgeon take the rap. It also had Susan Dey nude, from The Partridge Family in it. That alone should have made it a hit, but she hooks up with the old plastic surgeon at the end, and I remember thinking, Yuck! I feel that movie got no love though, cause I heard no one ever review that movie. Even Runaway got more love than Looker, even though I feel it had a better plot that Runaway.

Transformers aren't robots. They're living bio-mechanical organisms from the planet Cybertron. Cybertronians like the Transformers have blood, biological organs, and a soul they refer to as a spark. But you pretty much nailed it when it came to Megatron.

"Peace through tyranny." In the G1 cartoon he and the rest of the Decepticons were military hardware, created by the Quintessons, whose philosophy didn't quite match up with that of the domestic appliances called Autobots. His new backstory gives him more depth of character but G1 Megatron was a really simple dude. Kill the Autobots. Rule the Galaxy. Keep an eye on Starscream. Transformers lore really got weird after that lol
@awandererfromys1680
@awandererfromys1680 2 жыл бұрын
@@katondragonrider It kinda doesn't, in the G1 cartoon they really were robots, there was no biological component to their mechanics. With new -toys- factions such as the Pretenders and the Headmasters, the inclusion of biological material was presented as a very late and novel innovation in their evolution. It's unclear whether the Quintessons were the creators of Cybertron or just conquered it and enslaved the Cybertronians. Either way, there was no Primus, Cybertronians were manufactured and given life by Vector Sigma, a supercomputer at the heart of Cybertron. The Decepticons were originally military hardware, the Autobots domestic servants and workers. The G1 cartoons are very different from later continuities. The Autobots invented transformation millions of years into the war with the Decepticons. Unicron wasn't a god but a creation by a mad alien scientist called Primacron. The Dinobots were created by Wheeljack after he was inspired by studying dinosaur fossils on Earth. Megatron created the Stunticons to offset the Autobots' strategic ground advantage. As an answer the Aerialbots were created. Etc. I kinda miss G1 lore, the Quintessons were pretty awesome imho.
