Remember that aspirin originally came from white willow bark. You want the secondary lining of the bark. Chop and dry. Once dried out, when you need to make some, soak overnight in just enough water to cover it. There are many instructions on line for making this tincture. I read lots of complaints of bitterness but I find it odorless and tasteless so try different methods. I can’t keep it when I make it because it works so well. Because it’s liquid, it absorbs really quickly.

Please folks....do not take Ibuprofen and Naproxen together as they are both NSAIDS so the dosage max and daily max will apply to the combined amount. The daily max is 3200mg . Another example of a similar problem is when cold medicine has acetaminophen in it . You take your cold medicine not realizing it has Acetaminophen (Tylenol) and then you also take Tylenol. The daily dose for Acetaminophen is 4grams or 4000mg. Be careful...overdose is very easy with NSAIDS (Ibuprofen and Naproxen) and Acetaminophen (Tylenol). Always look for the generic ingredients in your meds so you know what you are taking.
@CT-ti3st
@CT-ti3st 3 жыл бұрын
The daily max for Ibuprofen is 3200, for Naproxen it is only 1000, if you take either it is a good idea to wait a minimum of 12 hours before a dose of the other. These are also prescription levels and not intended for long term usage at the max...follow the direction on the bottle per max dosage unless you are medically trained or can be monitored by someone who is. The first thing we see in NSAID overdose is usually kidney damage...the last thing you want to see during SHTF is you or a loved on peeing blood, wet do much for morale. Good idea to limit aspirin with NSAIDS as well as it is metabolized very similarly, a daily baby aspirin is fine but don't max Aspirin if maxing either Naproxen or Ibuprofen.
@CT-ti3st

Also the new current recommendation for Acetaminophen is 3000mg daily, changed a few years back.

First of all a cold is not a sickness and a cold is your body's way of detoxifying your system and when your food is not fully digested, it rots and creates methane gas. You need lots of live digestive enzymes to break down the solid foods you eat. Chew your food more to create more saliva which is digestive enzymes. All the food you eat has to be broken down to liquid form or otherwise you'll pass gas from undigested food that spoils in your system.

Although not technically a medication, in the OTC-medical category (often found in the same area), I would include dental repair kits, to replace lost fillings or re-cement crowns. Another item to include are preservative-free eye drops and ointments, to prevent and treat extreme eye dryness.

I had a filling come out before a trip and couldn’t get to the dentist before I left. I took zinc oxide powder and clove oil and made a paste..... once hard it brushed normal and the dentist needed to chip it out. He was actually very impressed with how well it held up. 100% with keeping these. I was lucky, I had zero pain and this was a very viable option..... I see people weekly that haven’t taken care of their teeth and are suffering. We don’t have an on call dentist and many times the relief the ER gives is short lived.

Not necessarily high on the priority list, but having some kind of lip balm can really help with any chapped lips. It's the little things like not having cracked/chapped lips that can help push you along mentally. Any petroleum jelly or lip balm is the best to counteract this condition. Staying hydrated and decreasing cold/sun damage to your lips is also important. There's plenty of natural remedies out there that you can find with just a little internet research.

Lip balm has many uses in prepping, I use a variety which is hydrating and has SPF 15 as an ointment, sunscreen, ... The oil in it burns well and may help keep kindling dry until needed. Not well known south of the border: cold dry air (+ wind) will suck moisture out of your skin making you colder (like sweating in summer), rub some lip balm on exposed skin to reduce heat and moisture loss.

I swear by benadryl cream for itching from bites like fleas, mosquitos, fire ants.. Also caladryl ( calamine) with zinc lotion is a life saver for massive itching.. i once had fire ant bites between my toes. For 3 weeks i suffered with swelled toes, mad itching. The items mentioned above got me through.. Childrens Benadryl tabs can be taken and you can still function and not be too sleepy, and still get the systemic benadryl effect.

Witch hazel is great for many things. Used after birth to relieve discomfort on women parts, can help with hemorrhoids, skin irritation in certain circumstances, if it helps muscle soreness I’ll have to try it. Rubbing alcohol rubbed on muscles does the same thing. ( very caution for use on children or animals..... ie last resort and likely not a good idea) witch hazel is great to have.

A GREAT prep to have is meat tenderizer. For all kinds of bee stings. Put some in your palm and add water to make a paste.. or use your own spit to make a quick paste. Put on the sting and IMMEDIATELY the sting subsides and not even a red mark remains. Something in the tenderizer neutralizes the bee venom. They actually use it in the ER. I keep one in my car for family picnics etc. as someone is bound to get a sting or two.

What are you using it for? Unless cleaning intact skin for a sterile procedure it’s not used often. I use it for catheter inserts only. It’s not used for wound care EVER. It’s cytotoxic and hurts new tissue growth. It’s really only good for prepping skin if you needed to cut it. Soap and water or saline solution is for wound care. If you had a bad cut and used iodine once it’s not the end of the world, but that’s it.... after that iodine shouldn’t be used.

The only thing I would add to this is Talcum Powder. Higher end toothpastes like the higher end Crest toothpastes I fared better with, for a gum infection I had a couple of years ago. Most toothpastes contain sodium fluoride. But the toothpastes that contain stannous fluoride, get 4mm under the gum line. For me, clove oil and other recommendations were temporary fixes, for what was probably a bacterial infection. Toothpaste with stannous fluoride was the permanent fix. I haven’t had any trouble since. It may seem that something liquid will penetrate well but, perhaps, not. I’m not a dental professional, by any means. This simply worked for me, without a trip to the dentist and it took less than a week for the problem to clear up. No prescription needed and you can even find the smaller tubes at the Dollar Tree, when I looked, a couple of years ago. I don’t think it’ll fix an actual cavity. But, now, part of my preps is to keep this type of toothpaste stocked up.

Cough meds were mentioned in comments- i grew up being ill with bronchitis alot.. coughing was uncontrollable.. i rarely get this now, but it got me thinking to add these meds to my stock.. 1. Basic cough med - dextromethoraphan (otc) 2. guafenisin (Otc) is a mucous clearing med (generic) and mucinex is a brand name. 2. Codeine (rx) or the synthetic form Promethazine VC or Cheratussin AC relieves cough (I keep the expired ones for emergency) 3. Home remedy for cough- hot tea w lemon / honey/ southern comfort. Make it to taste decent. Booze works, peeps! The idea is that alcohol calms the central nervous system and eases the cough reflex. When I was ill, I was a professional “cougher” and nothing would stop it. (Later learned this was a variant asthma i had) so that brings in the nyquil (otc) type med, or benzonatate (rx) for incessant cough. Proventil (rx) inhaler helpful. I am just listing these for your info, and they are not all required but if you are in need, these are good to try. Cough drops also good - menthol Halls - can help breathing in general and be a calming agent if having shortness of breath or anxious. Sambucol is a natural cough agent also good - can get in liquid and gummies. Hope you find this helpful..

I would add to your prepper's kit: the antibiotic Amoxycillin in capsule form sold online at pet stores for fish. I would also add a veterinary surgical kit, and Ivermectin (sold in tubes for 2,500 lb horses) as a parasitic preventative and also for C-19. Plus, pharmacies now sell oxygen in canisters. Add tampons to stop bleeding from a potential pole or bullet hole to stop bleeding, Plus, silicone patches to help heal burn wounds. A styptic pencil or powder for nuisance bleeds is also a good thing to have in your kit.
