Having self-pitying mentality and being upset about something are totally different things. The second one is temporary. However, the first one is permanent, such people do not want to fix their problem, they only using it to attract as much attention as possible. I am not talking about clinical depression, by the way, it is totally different subject.

I'm a 57 yr old woman. I DO go silent, and it is not because I'm immature. When I have problems, things to work out, within myself OR with someone else, I go quiet, I also spend time alone when I can. It's my way of working through things. I have been in an abusive marriage for 18 years which my kids where held over my head. This is how I process things and work them out so I can talk to that person. I just need time.

Good way to look at it is think about people who just can't find that special person in their life not just companionship but to point out all the wrong habits they have and change it vise versa that is when divorces come to play "we aren't compatible" that's a bad excuse for not wanting to change to be with that person who cares

This age thing on when a man or women hit puberty is ridiculous. From my point of view being a man: I grew up waaaay to soon in order to take care of my siblings while my mom worked. Therefore as a grown man, I choose to act as a child to be at awe with many things. Like to goof off. When it time to get serious...im there. I can't speak on women because i am not a woman. My wife is 53 years old. She only displays one of these behaviors, the silent treatment. When she does that, I grab my clothes and toiletries and move outside into our RV, which is just as comfortable as our home. Before I do it, I tell her I’m not talking to her either until she comes to me and wants to have an adult conversation. The longest we’ve gone is about 6 days, but the episodes have become much less frequent, maybe once every 2 years.

@nickhall As a person apart of the lgbtq+ community, unfortunately, I would have to agree. I came out later in life (in my 30’s) and during the time I’ve spent being in this community I’ve realized that as well. I would say it’s a big negative, I’m aware of this so I try my best not to be this way and deal with facts and be more logical and not just emotionally driven. That ish is exhausting to deal with over time.

The woman I like has most of these qualities. It took me a while to figure it out because I've never come across a 50 something year old woman so plain who I saw in Church have such a high opinion of herself. I gave her some attention because I liked her but I can hear the voices in her head "oh look he's looking at me", "he thinks I look so hot in this dress", "he coming up to me to talk to me", "he wants me so bad". I would see her looking at me probably to see if I was looking at her. It's like being back in high school. Yet when I asked her out she said she would "let me know". That's what tipped me off she was using me for validation.

Yeah, going through something similar, but with a 22yo. Constantly says something like "You don't like me anymore. 😢" when she gets drunk as a bid for validation. Gave me the ol' "It isn't a 'No.'" when I asked her out. Doesn't give me attention when I go to a party with her at it, but then wants me to stay to talk after bowling league night. Basically flirts and wants to date a friend of mine who is already taken. I really want to believe she's just unsure of where she is with if she wants to date considering her past dating history, but everything else tells me she's just plain immature. I guess it's not surprising that she's immature given she just became of drinking age last year, but I really don't have the capacity to play 4D chess to try and even get to know her more to see if she's compatible with me at a basic level. With that being said, I'm willing to let her know that I'm interested at least in getting to know her more, but I'm not gonna play the validation games when she's physically flawless. In my opinion, I'm amazed I get any attention with the way that I look compared to her, but I'm starting to think that the attention that she lightly peppers on me is really a small investment in hoping that I shower her with attention, and I'm not gonna do that.

As a 43 year old man trust me.... There are all kinds out there. The most amazing i ever met in terms of this was a 37 year old woman from Morocco... Still a virgin, lived with her parents and obsessed about Japanese cartoonsn aka anime. Both her younger sisters had left the nest years ago and moved on and made their families. But for some reason this bird was still there. Did i find out why?.... No. I left because this individual seemingly had really some arrested emotional issues. I definitely have the affective realism and idealism, I don't think I'm the most beautiful girl in the world, I think I'm kind of pretty, though. I do think of myself as interesting and fun to talk to, I don't get why people often think I'm annoying, I don't mean to be. People often describe me as "annoying but really nice". Is the "immature but kind" personality type really rare? I don't know if I'm super kind, I just mean that I try to be. I don't always have an idea of what doing the nice thing means, but I always have good intentions. For example, I love to talk about my interests and I didn't know until someone told me that people aren't interested and some think by talking about what I know that I'm bragging, like I'm Little Miss Showoff, but that's not what I meant to do. I just want to give other people a chance to experience the same kind of joy that I did when learning things. I'm on the spectrum (I have what used to be called Asperger's syndrome) and I'm not as good at "masking" it as many other girls are. I used to think the problem was my voice, I have a high-pitched voice despite being tall (I'm 5 foot 9) and I thought my voice made me annoying.

I disagree with some of #3. It only talks about the behavior but not the cause of the behavior. Behavior isn't arbitrary. it has reasons. It think it's a mistake to ignore the reasons and punish the behavior. I don't think they deserve coldness. I think they deserve compassion. "Everyone deserves compassion." - Dr. Kristen Neff. Sometimes people who are for whatever reason inclined to not feel compassion, just don't want to or can't will justify it in someway. They will moralize. There's something called selective-empathy that isn't inherently bad but can be a problem. You can also have selective-compassion. People's compassion can often be very conditional and only given when others experience things totally out of their control, and that's understandable but when compassion is given even to those we feel don't deserve it's it's beautiful merciful thing. Ultimately, if it's in someone's heart to be compassionate.

According to this I am a mature woman. That's good. Even as a teenager I was mature. I look really young though. Strange combination probably to some.
