Another tip via Blackie Thomas. Store your tent stakes in a zip closed pencil case. Unless they're too huge. Unlike the bags that come with the tent they're thicker and zips don't untie themselves.

#11 install a hardwood floor to add another layer between the ground the tarp the tent and the tarp . This will create a moisture free barrier and keep you warm and dry .

Oh beautiful! 😃 You want to go with Ipe Wood, it’s the most water resistant, and will help keep the tent dry as well as provide another layer of separation between you and the ground. 👍🏽😎😁

All I can say is "welcome to 2023"... Sadly our kids and even adults today are so used to having so much at their hands like pc's, phones, etc and when it comes to just enjoying the outdoors they don't know what to do with themselves. Honestly it's not their fault, this is just today's teachings (if that makes sense). Everything revolves around the world while leaving out the wilderness. So you have to take the military approach and rewire them (take that lightly). Take them camping where they can fish/swim, teach them cooking over a fire, and just relax. Take some board games, cards, and I've seen some camp sites with enough space for even badminton, cornholes, horseshoe and what not. At the end of the day, sadly some people just don't like it no matter what you do or have. Hopefully some of my ideas help you.

Hunters who use a tent know to find a larger tent bag. The factory one is very tight so that more tents can fit in a shipping box and on a store shelf. A larger tent bag takes stress off of the folds too. It's easier to get the tent back into as well. Reflective zipper pulls work well on the door and window zippers too. Spraying the screens with an insect repellent can work wonders.

I've got a Cabela's 10×10 ft outback lodge. It fits nicely into a G.I. duffle bag. This bag is the newer type with a full length zipper. But the old style is just as good. And for car camping I go Ay Rab. Can't beat a nice rug!

I use an inexpensive Home Depot indoor/outdoor rug ($20) for my 4P+ tents. In my 2P, I use a padded picnic blanket. I also like having an outdoor doormat and a small stool right outside the tent opening to take off/put on my shoes.

Foam tiles, and the extra tarp inside the tent are definite game changers. The tiles are so much softer than rocks, and, the extra tarp makes for a quick cleanup. The other ideas you both have, dealing with meal prep are super awesome. Making eggs and putting them in water bottles makes so much sense! We did this on our latest trip, but we prepared the eggs for French Toast ( eggs, cinnamon, vanilla,cream). No hassle with mess. Thank you both for such wonderful suggestions!

Thank you for your tips. We have always camped light - a small 2 person dome tent and just take a mattress and bedding, couple of bowls and cutlery to eat with. No cooking stuff or table and chairs. Now semi-retired with more time to go on longer camping trips, yesterday we bought a larger tent with a separate living area - we won't know ourselves :). We are off next week for a two week trip to the coast. Thank you for the tip of the dust pan and brush. I will definately need this with the sandy beach. I have also bought a metal clothes rail to hang our clothes on. My husband is a lazy camper who hates taking too much stuff and moaned that he would have to take hangers. Just wait till he sees what else I want to take to give our new tent the full on glamping look - ha! ha!

Great tips. 1) I see so many people that use the tarp but leave it sticking out from below the tent. All that does is direct rainwater between the tarp and tent bottom. 2)noodle idea is great. Silly to see dark tent lines. 9-10) Great ideas. I gotta try that.

I heard of the foam puzzle flooring method, great idea. All others were essential good ones too.. learned from you guys to keep a venting system so condensation won't build on walls inside, great point! But also it is a good idea to dig a drain trench all around the tent outside border of your tent(dig a drain away one at corners) and try to set up between two sturdy trees to run a rope and set up a tarp above the the whole tent jic a wet storm comes in at night.. You'll won't regret it during the day setting up even on blue skies.. " no such thing as bad weather, it's bad gear "

Great tips! Surprisingly I figured out some of these on my own. I've been putting the floor tiles down for a while now. The ones i use are 2 ft by 2ft. My tent is 10ft square so I use 25 of them. I like to put them between my ground tarp and the tent floor. Makes a huge difference on my bare feet and when kneeling. I am usually setting up camp close to my vehicle, so i don't mind the extra equipment/bulk.
@WhereWeWild
@WhereWeWild 10 ай бұрын
Thanks! And nice that’s awesome! 😃🤙🏽 There are so many different ways you can go about it all which makes it super fun. 😊 We actually really only have to cover a small portion of our tent with tiles cause of our sleeping pads or air mattress. Just the left over space you have to walk on or kneel on or whatever, so we don’t have to take too too many when we use them. Oh yeah haha car camping is always nice because it allows you to bring so much more stuff that you can experiment with, haha even if you don’t end up needing it. 😁🤙🏽 Backpacking you really have to have it all stripped down to a science and travel as light as you can obviously, which can be challenging but that can also make things fun and interesting as well. 😎 Thanks for the comment! 😃

I used to only use tiles beside my tent and not under it. But recently I camped and it got down to about 40. I was glad to have the extra foam insulating the mattress from the ground. And when the mattress deflated the foam tiles were a back up. That’s why I now tile the entire floor. And the 24” ones are great too bc you cut down in half the work you do putting them down.

Just slept in a tent we've had for years last night with one of our dogs to acclimatize him to tent camping with my safety net being set up outside our camper. It worked out well, however the tarps and the tent storing tip I certainly could've done it better. Will be in a colder climate with the dog the next time I do this around 35F probably in a campground so I may incorporate a portable electric heater also. I just used a surge strip for my electrical needs off a 110 extension cord. It was a test run with a safety net, reasonably successful, and looking to improve my setup!

Try using a glow necklace or bracelet for your zipper pulls on the tent door to make it easier to find them at night and you can use them as the zipper pull. You can usually get a can with a bunch of them which is good bc Each one lasts only 1 Night.

Some decent tips for beginners. Good job. Folding your tent into thirds obviously only works for particular tents. Just look at the length of your tent bag to figure out how many times to fold the tent before rolling it. Also roll it as tightly as you can, because this makes it much easier to fit back into the bag. For those who don't want to lay a tarp and then a tent and then another tarp and then some rubber tiles... I sometimes just put a cheap rubber-backed picnic rug inside the tent. This gives a little extra insulation from the ground and it's sort of like having the comfort of a carpeted floor. It's also still easy to clean.
@WhereWeWild
@WhereWeWild 16 күн бұрын
Hahaha man it’s such a shame everyone thinks we were saying to use the tarp and the tiles at the same time inside the tent because we simply didn’t remove the tarp before we showed the next flooring option. Ruined this whole video. That’s all people hang up on. 😂

Great tips! I have thought about trying the foam squares, and wondered if anyone else had done so. When I started tent camping on my own, eons ago, I had a small tent, and used an old shower curtain under it. I have a bigger tent, now, and use a tarp. I like the idea of putting one inside, too. I cringed at the idea of leaving shoes outside, though - bugs! We always have a small rug just inside the door where we take off our shoes and leave them.
@WhereWeWild
@WhereWeWild Жыл бұрын
Thanks 😊 There are so many different options and variations of all this stuff. The tiles are cool, but we only really use those for a small section of the tent that’s not covered by our air mattress so we don’t have to travel with that many of them. Moving blankets work well, yoga mats, tarps of course… you can get super creative! Lol so many people misinterpret this video to mean use 25 different flooring types at a time. Just cause of how we shot it I guess. 🤷🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️😁 Haha the shoe basket outside works in some environments and is not so smart in others, but also depends on the shoes right? Crocs, Sandals, water shoes, stuff like that which can be nice to wear around camp to be more comfortable, you really don’t have to worry about as much cause you can pretty much see everything inside of them compared to say big hiking boots. Thanks for watching and for the nice comment we appreciate it. 😊🤙🏽

If you buy a new tent, set it up at home to familiarize yourself with set-up before you get to your camp site and confirm that it contains all the poles, stakes and lines that it is supposed to. The fabric of your tent is treated to be waterproof before the fabric is cut and sewn to make your tent. The seams of the tent FLY are usually sealed by the manufacturer with a sealing tape or chemical sealant. However, all the rest of the sewn seam of your tent are not water sealed (except very few very expensive tents) and will probably leak during a heavy rain and wind storm. Buy a separate "tent seam sealing kit", compatible with your tents fabric type, and spend a half hour sealing all seams when you do the first set up in your back yard.

We use those heavier mylar tarps. One to cover the floor, and one on top of our sleeping bags with a blanket over it when it is really cold. We have always been warm and dry. First time we tried this, we woke up with condensation all over the top tarp from our body heat hitting the cold tarp. Covering the tarp with a light blanket kept us dry.

I never thought about putting a tarp on the inside of my tent. Love that idea. Also, putting the foam tiles is a very smart idea. Seems it would make the floor of your tent much softer. TYSM for that idea, too. One I don't recommend, however, is the axing of your zippers. I've tried that before, and, it only caused my tent zipper to eventually get permanently stuck in place - open ! (LOL ! GO FIGURE ! DK WHAT happened, there ! 🤔) But, the pool thingys are a great idea as are the glow sticks. Just wish they made the glow sticks where they would NEVER lose their "glowing" capability. TYSM for sharing this video with us - very informative and useful info. 😻

You don’t have to use them all at once though 😂 The wax is kind of a last resort thing if it’s really bad. Just re-read my comment above. It was supposed to be "waxing" not "axing." 👎autocorrect 👎 Guess you figured that out, though. 😻 Thank you for the suggestion as to why that didn't work for me. Being "so hot out" sounds as if it was likely the reason. 😻
