One time I was driving down Ft Weaver by the McDonald's and a dumb kid on an e-bike came flying up the road splitting lanes in oncoming traffic. I was like, wtf. Kids on their damn e-bikes are stupid.

Too many of these kids on e-bikes and dirt bikes riding reckless on the roads. Irresponsible parents are to blame! Buying these bikes and letting their kids go wild with no regard for the laws and dangers! I've seen these punks routinely run from police, too. Be a real damn parent, not a real dumb one!

I’m wondering if this is the same kid riding north on Ft Weaver Road last Sunday recklessly…if so, I’m not surprised of this accident.

The parents should be held partially responsible because by Hawaii Law, a person must be 15 or older to operate an e-bike. They should have never bought that e-bike for their son. Also, by law, an e-bike must be ridden on the road as if it was a motor vehicle and obey all traffic signs and lights. Exception is bike lanes that are integrated with the sidewalk. Very rare do I see e-bike riders do that. The bike store should also be held responsible because the bike was not registered. At least what I can see on the video, there was no yellow tag on the frame. All e-bikes, regardless of wheel size must be registered. The bike store should have warned the parents of the age restrictions. Lastly, the car driver. However, there is not much in the report to say how much responsibility. If the kid was riding recklessly or in a way that did not allow the car driver to conduct defense maneuver then it should not rise to criminal or multi million dollar lawsuit.

Guest the parents didn't teach the son bike safety , guess they learned the hard way !!!

Don't buy your kid an e bike in the first place. For several reasons.

I never understood why there were no crossing guards at this section when school gets out, especially when they do not provide free bus transportation to and from school for kids that live more than 2 miles from school.

Can't always blame drivers. Pedestrians and bicyclists have to be more careful too.

12 y/o doesn't belong on E-bike, in high traffic roadway! Parents are TOTALLY responsible for for this accident! They warrant, at least, 5 years jail time for child endangerment/abuse! Prayers for 12 y/o swift/complete recovery....This is inexcusable & was Wholly preventable!😢

The State Department of Transportation should look into registered these e-bikes and make them pay insurance… They need to have insurance and registration fees when driving on roadways like all vehicles….

I’m not familiar with the area at all. But if collisions are this frequent, could there possibly be something inherently wrong with the way the streets are marked? Is there something wrong with the traffic lights, timing and the flow of traffic? I realize the main factors are probably the child and the driver but so many things have to be factored in.

Parents need to take classes instead of letting their kids on the roads on these. The parents are irresponsible 🫶🏼

I do drive consciously and mindfully!! Too many reckless kids on e-bikes!! I feel sorry for the driver.

Kid shouldn’t be on the road

All you people blaming the kid, how do you know he was at fault? Cars kill people. A lot of people. People walking, people driving, people riding bikes. In 2022, drivers hit and killed at least 7,508 pedestrians.

These e bikes go ad fast as mopeds.Why are they allowed to ride on sidewalks?Had so many close calls getting off the bus.

They ride on sidewalks, bike lane and take up one lane when they are in a group. Time to enforce the law with e-bikes, otherwise there will be more accidents and fatalities.

And the part that gets me is, us car drivers now have to be responsible for the irresponsible kids and parents. Not a good combo! Ever! 😢

Never depend on other drivers to keep you safe. If you see danger developing be prepared to react.

ewa beach was built around owning a car... i bet if rail started on fort weaver road, it would have more daily riders than it does today.

Most people on the island has ran across kids on e bikes and regular bicycles not paying attention and jumping out into traffic without looking and no parents insight. There is even a viral video of one uncle scolding some kids. Why is there not stricter laws. And way do parents not care to keep and eye and mentor their children on safety. I don't blame the kid because kids are kids and well they don't always think things through. Parents should be held responsible.

E-bike regulation needs to be implemented, kids going 40 mph on sidewalks with pedestrians and failing to yield at intersections in that area are the norm 😢

When we were kids, we went everywhere on bikes. We fell and got hurt all the time. That's how we learned not to do stupid things. Kids now days never learn common sense because everyone wants to control what they do! Get over your stuff! You can't control everything and everyone!!!!!!

When are these kids gonna learn e bikes or any bike dosen't stand a chance against a car or a truck!

The Car driver should be cited. Cars are killers of pedestrians bicycle riders and other drivers. More bicycling infrastructure should be built. How fast was the driver driving. An ebike doesnt kill people cars kill people. Drivers are always at fault, they have more power and should drive responsibly. Driving is a privledge. Riding a bicycle is not.

These damn e everything need to be permanently banned. They cause too much chaos.
