This happened right after school with 100’s of kids leaving school on bikes. When school is out all cars need to slow down. If you’re driving slow it’s easy to react to bikes or any pedestrians.

They be weaving in and out of traffic, and doing wheelies. Something gotta give.

Oahu needs ELEVATED CROSSWALKS !!! Especially at the intersections where pedestrians and bike riders have been hit already!!!! THIS IS NOT NORMAL. WHY ARE WE ACCEPTING THIS ????? Use some of those tax and tourist dollars to pay for elevated crosswalks NOW !!!!! 😥🤬

The Hawai'i law says you must be at least 15 years old to operate a bike! What's funny is that the city and county of Honolulu's Department of Transportation mentioned this on KZfaq this week.

The kids are so vain in speeding with their ebikes and then doing a wheelie.

I've seen the people riding those E-bikes, which are pretty quiet and fast. None of the kids are using helmets, which even adults riding regular 10 speed bikes know to where helmets, so who's responsible for providing the helmets/e-bikes to the younger people? Even if there was licensing, is it for the owner of the e-bike like regular bikes or is it for the rider? If e-bikes are like regular bikes, it was for being stolen/recovered, which in this day & age, how many get stolen and never recovered? Furthermore, if lots of kids ride someone's bike, how would a license for a e-bike owner be for covering one of the friends/relatives borrowing off the e-bike. Are moped/scooter riders licensed? If the moped/scooter/e-bike riders are expected to follow traffic rules, then they can't be riding on sidewalks. If the e-bike/moped/scooter hits a walking pedestrian on a sidewalk, who's liable for injuries.

The kids in this are pretty reckless on ebikes in this area. It was just a matter of time. And the state, in typical fashion, is sloooooow when drafting new laws. It's going to be a while before the "over-750 watt" ebikes are out of the grey-area limbo they are in now and have real laws that pertain to them specifically. Until then, boys would be boys and will continue to ride like they are immortal.

That's why car insurance has to go up...pay for everyone that doesn't need to carry insurance so they can drive/ride and cross the street however they want. Even if it's their fault, it's not and your insurance has to pay for them

The DOE needs to be held more accountable. Hawaii law states that you need to be at least 15 years old to operate an electric bike, yet I see MANY elementary school kids riding and parking their e-bikes on school grounds. I also see middle school aged kids riding their e-bikes from the middle school to the elementary school to pick up their younger siblings, and so two kids are riding on 1 e-bike with no helmet. Why are our schools allowing this illegal activity to continue on state property??????? PLEASE DO SOMETHING Dept of Education!!!!!
