*This is exactly what I needed for trimming the edge of oak boards **MyBest.Tools** I also used the disk to round edges while building an oak - walnut cabinet.*

Hey Cap'n, as I always say about our troops here in the UK.... "if ya can't stand behind em, feel free to stand in-front of em". These brave folks deserve the highest respect.

I've owned and used the hell out of that same sander for over 20 years. Other than replacing the drive belt once, it's never quit. In fact, since starting woodturning, it's what I've used to sharpen tools on; just freehand standing in front of it rather than behind with a jig. You're right on - *fine* edge on the tools and next to nothing removed from the tool itself. :-) I'm going to try rounding over the bevel on a skew like that... interesting idea.

Capt, like everyone else I'm thinking that this is a great idea. Mine is the HF version that was purchased late last year and one issue on my version is the platform, it's made of aluminum and mounted on an articulated arm so the bracket/platform you show wouldn't work, but there are several bolting points in the body below the belt that could be used to mount a shop made platform so it should be no problem making a something to fit. Thanks for another great tip Eddie.

Hey Eddie thanks for the inspiration I have been getting my boss to sharpen my tools on his sorby which means I have down time waiting for him to have time to do them so I got a grinder with a belt sander and got creative in the metal shop i spent some time taking measurements and pictures of the sorby I am still building it but it will have the tool rest stops to obtain the required grinds I will send you a picture when its all done think you will like it

I have been using my Sears version since I saw the Sorby system introduced. What I did was mount the table in the belt position and drilled a hole for my Oneway. I also have a HF system that I got in a yard sale for $25 a year or so. It was missing parts, so I ordered replacements. The piece you modified cost me $1.36.

Hi Captain Eddie Another advantage to your grinder is that its a flat grind rather than a hollow grind (stronger edge).

Some people do what you're showing, but they reverse the direction of the belt so that it moves up, away from the edge rather than down into it. I think they feel that reversing the belt means the tool can't be snatched and thrown if you goof and dig into the belt. Have you ever felt the need to reverse the belt direction? I'm setting up a machine right now and it runs much smoother in the normal direction vs. reversed.

Hummm~I have a Black & Decker 3x24 & 6"disc unite. {I have a wielder but I wield like crap] so I'm thinking I could add an extension by Pop Riveting a piece of scrap. Then use the BlackHawk rig I just got from you. [nice set up by the way~thanks] I also have a Black & Decker 1" belt sander. [never use it~~there was a 75%off sale] I also bought an "S" load of both size belts..

that table is pretty flimsy. the drive gears are weak as well. I have two in my shop right now with stripped gears but I found a cheap fix. drill through the gear and bolt it to the wheel

Good idea for using my JET JSG64 (looks similar as your DELTA). Only one thing I keep in mind - safety. Is it really safely? What may be happened in case of sander belt damage caused by sharp edge of chisel? Perhaps better to use 6 inch disk and extansion table with jig? Anyway a lot of thanks! Looks good! Alexei

Hey, Eddie, I've got a sander just like that one. It's a 6 inch disk sander. What happened to the cast aluminum table that came with it? I think it'd be easy enough to use that instead of adding the tab, but that's just me. Take 'er easy, Larry

Hey Capt'n I am wondering if you are selling tabs yet or if I can send you mine, I am a new turner and my tools got dull and I took them to a shop that said they could do them, well they worse than what I took in to them. I been looking at the sorby proedge and its like 500 bucks, id prefer to spend that money on something else since I have the harbor freight version of this. And I been picking up a lot from your videos IM WATCHING!

Hey Eddie. About Harbor Freight. Just about everything I bought from them has lasted a month if that. Table saw fence, handle broken off, not to mention the blade is set at an angle creating a heel. Impact driver lasted about 2 weeks. All of the clamps snapped off. I even broke pliers clean off, I know I am a strong guy, but not that strong. Harbor Freight is absolute crap, wish ou would stop advertising them.
