@@dragonkingsportsno you do like sex you’re closing yourself off from that because it’s painful. Norm faced death for decades, he was completely and hopelessly troubled and depressed. I feel like his statement about not liking sex shouldn't really be taken to mean anything.. whether or not he enjoyed sex I could definitely see him telling everyone he didn't because it got such a strong reaction. He also became terminally ill.. so there is a decent chance there was some truth to it

This is a great example of how people cannot handle someone who doesn’t fall into line with their perception of what someone should feel or be. The pack can’t handle a member that doesn’t conform.
@shaun8062

Agreed. I don't feel the same way he does, but I'm not going to be so childish as to harass some kind of conviction out of a guy that already told me how he feels. I think they might be extra surprised just because he plays the fool so often for humor that they can't wrap their head around the guy when he's being honest. They also might have very high sex drives and want to learn because they are fascinated, that's fair. But I don't think this is way out of the norm to be honest. I've experienced it a few times in my life and I'm only in my 30s, but I experienced it in my 20s. Especially if you've had lots of sexual experience and opportunity for a while, it loses it's charm.

It reminds me of Plato’s “allegory of the cave”. Upon returning to the cave, the philosopher explains to those in the cave that the shadows on the walls are not threatening. Then the philosopher is kicked out of the cave for saying that the monsters were fake. The interviewers would be those in the cave that kick Norm out for the perplexing concept of no sex. Like Norm I was Normal in my 20s but now the whole idea is exhausting. I have no problem with arousal but the idea of meeting a bunch of people until I find a connection and then working through the awkwardness to have mutually satisfying sex doesn't interest me anymore. It's funny how many of these interviewers get defensive and scandalised by Norm's opinion. Like, what do they care? It seems to me like - especially in the last interview - they were both trying to find a way of justifying their own vices and weakness, by trying to find Norm's. As if, out of their own insecurity, they thought Norm was somehow implying he was better than them. That's not the point, and I think Norm's children/adult statement is pretty spot on.

It's odd if a 50-year-old is thinking about it 90% of the time like an 18-year-old, but if it's just numerous times a day that's not odd. I certainly wouldn't call him or her childish.

No, he did not. In fact he moved closer to it. Because it’s not that he liked sex and chose not to partake, but rather that he didn’t enjoy sex and therefore doesn’t partake. He is still moving in relation to desire and aversion, but let me rephrase. He is not a hedonist in this way, instead, he is like a sheep who stuck his head above the grass, saw the sky, and realized that he doesn’t like eating grass like the other sheep. He would rather eat anything else, because grass is always green, it’s always on the ground, it’s always pointed upwards. It’s dull, it’s repetitive. No, even if it means starving, he won’t eat it. What’s the point of it, if you don’t enjoy it. Yeah, you’ll die without it. But why live if the object of your life is something that you can no longer stand? No, shun the grass and don’t even look at it. Go eat something else. Find out what you really want, go find out what’s worth dying for, so that you can live, truly and refreshingly, dangerously and excitingly. Move with the wind, according to nature. Follow the voice of your creator, obey and do the will of your father in heaven. Believe on the name of his son Jesus Christ, and you will have eternal life in heaven.

I've been in a long term relationship for 5 years now and my partner and I are still very attracted to each other, and have sex maybe 2 or 3 times a month but sex is not the main focus of our relationship. There is so much more to life than sex alone. Sometimes having a late night discussion about life and philosophy and history and current events with my partner is better than sex. "It's a shameful act... They live in a fools paradise where they pretend it's not!" I completely agree. Having sex with people you do not love or are not emotionally connected with is a deeply shameful experience that we suppress to validate our insecurities of not being wanted. Society controls us by manipulating our sexual desires. A person not in control is a person who isn't free.
@Chingakyckaling
@Chingakyckaling 3 ай бұрын
That's an societally closed off enforced mindset about sex. That somehow, you need to create "emotional connection" anywhere else before having sex, but not through sex? Because apparently that's not possible or "empty". Even casual encounters can be emotionally vulnerable if both parties are open and have the emotionally literacy to make it so. Also, why would we have all these couples who brag that they're so close emotionally but can't for the life of them be open during sex? Because this seems to be a common problem in relationships. I would there's no difference between being controlled by sex or being controlled by other relational desires, because of believed and enforced love scarcity. People haven't changed. Love and connection have also been treated as spiritually dead and transactional concepts by our society. Most people let relational excitement and feelings of lack guide them towards "real" bonds, without the thought that both loving ability and mindset should be intentionally cultivated from within, and not gained from finding the "right" connection or person outside of yourself.

Probably why married people stop having sex. It's only impressive for people who lack access to it, or want to brag about being close enough to Elle McPherson. My dad was born in the mid 1940s, and I discovered his journal from 1960-1970. I turned to a page at random and one page is covered with the following insight: "MAN CANNOT LIVE ON SEX ALONE. " He was 16 when he wrote that entry. I have no doubt he felt it was a profound insight instead of glaringly obvious.

LMAO I cant even click on a Norm Macdonald video with out smirking. I first saw him doing weekend updates on SNL when I was a kid and I loved that sort of detached feel he has when he talks. And then he came out with Dirty Work and I fell in love with that movie because I was a huge fan of Artie from Mad TV. It was like watching Batman and Superman team up. As an adult, I have come to appreciate the fact that Norm wasn't even aiming to make people laugh. He just did it naturally by amusing HIMSELF. I think one of the absolute sweetest things that I ever heard about Norm, was listening to Conan O'Brien talk about Norm Macdonald. O'Brien talks about him so lovingly and with great admiration. And that's HUGE coming from a comedy genius like Conan O'Brien. I remember that Conan described Norm's jokes as "farmers wive's jokes" or "traveling salesman" jokes lmao. He said that he didn't laugh at Norm's jokes more than he was laughing at the audacity of Norm to use "public domain" jokes and pass them off his own experiences in front of a live audience of national TV show 😂😂😂😂😂 Conan went on to describe that it was like "watching Norm split an atom" 😂😂😂😂 We miss you everyday Norm, you ol' chunk of coal.

I understand Norm's position on this. He was inwardly a Christian. I don't think he's joking about this: he saw that sex was basically a trap by the material world, much like wealth is. It's why lust and greed are mortal sins- they distract from the work you do on your soul. Of course this would go over the head of people like Stern, who were raised in the Boomer 'free-love' bullshit and hold sex on some pedestal as the most important thing on earth.

I think you missed his point completely. He lost interest in having sex as he grew older because of his own considerations based on his personal experiences. It's like someone losing interest in skiing or surfing or fishing or any other endeavor that once had appeal. The interest wanes and is many times replaced by a new interest. He wasn't a slut and he wasn't interested in sluts as he grew older. That's what all of the sluts interviewing him couldn't understand. Their thinking is 'all human beings are horny sluts like me' so someone who says he isn't has to be lying or 'doing a bit.'

Thing with Norm is he was always seeking God the best way for himself. He didn’t broadcast his religious beliefs much like others might do as it was very private to him.

It's not like I've renounced it, but it doesn't dictate my life. And when you put things like that, people just don't know how to interact with you. Cause they cannot manipulate you in a way, that they do that to other people. And relationships cannot be formed cause you're not dense enough for them to be formed in the first place. Like people simply cannot go in that lane.

Why is it so hard for them to understand? I rarely ever think about sex, I don't imagine fucking every woman I interact with. I enjoy sex with my girlfriend, but outside of those moments I rarely ever think about. Before her I'd go for a long time until meeting someone I liked, but never seeked or got desperate about not having sex. It doesn't have to be because of a medical issue, or drugs, or anything. I just don't think about it much. That should be easy enough to understand wtf. I've met people like this before and it's so frustrating, being a man doesn't mean you're obsessed with sex. It's fucking crazy that people think you're lying to sound good when you say something as simple as "I don't think about fucking every woman I meet", like what the fuck?? This is partly why I've always disliked Howard Stern, dude's always been fucking disgusting and projects it on everyone else.

Sure I was thinking about sex all the time as a raging hormonal teenager but like Norm said I grew up and there are just far too many important things in life that require attention for sex to be anywhere near the top of my list of priorities and I honestly I feel like sex is a privilege for those who have lots of time on their hands and little in the way of responsibilities.

I remember in high school, this kid and other people too would say stuff in the locker room like "men can't go 2 hours without thinking about sex" etc, and all this other prolific commonly accepted commentary on people and sex, meanwhile I was completely sexless (as a normal male teen with hormones) from 15 - 18, not even a wet dream. I was very attracted to women, but didn't feel a need to masturbate or seek sex out just because of it. I think most people watch porn and masturbate / seek sex out often because of some odd type of FOMO that society creates with all this modern 'sex positive' rhetoric that everyone regurgitates now and days. Makes people feel bad about themselves if they're not 'getting some' on a frequent basis. What Norm said about "I'm not a child...I don't see a shiny bead and go 'I have to have that!'.." really hits the nail on the head in our sex-crazed society and dresses the matter down embarrassingly well. Definitely think I was more mature about sex from 15 -18 then I have been most of my life ever since then.
