I trained with Steven in his dojo in Japan, eventually climbing the ranks under his training and becoming a black belt Aikido master myself. From there, Steven recommended me to the CIA and I went undercover pretending to work with the Italian mafia. Part of my job was playing a blues musician in Seagal's band to keep my cover, we usually played blues bars in Louisiana and shared the stage with the likes of B.B. King and more. This was around the time Bruce Lee personally met me while filming Enter the Dragon in order for me to teach him my signature front kick move, which he used on screen to eventually win an academy award for which he thanked me in his award speech. See Steven? I can make up stories too!

i really think, that this is one of the best interviewers i have ever seen someone do with Sensei. honestly, the way of humorously calling him out ("this is the story i would rather believe") and still doing it in a sympathic and humorous way, that allows Steve to keep his face, is totaly gold. :D loved it. thanks for this entertainment and being brave just enough to walk the thin line :D

I’m sure it’s an unspoken rule among even some of the more sensitive celebrities to behave on David Letterman since he was for a time the number one show host. One time David Letterman got Kinsey Klaus, who is probably the most dangerous and aggressively tempered actor on his show, and he behaved quite elegantly. If you made an ass of yourself on letterman if you’re on you’re career brink you’d risk messing it up

The guy had kidnapped all the children and tied them to barrels of crude oil and was planning to burn them if the deed to the land was not turned over. Seagal never even blinked during the whole fight against 40 men ! It was glorious . Later he was made a deity by the 14th Dalai Lama !!

I´m keeping this interview and the one with a karate fighter that they did to him in Dubai to understand that he is smarter than everyone thinks and that he has known how to be in character all these years, making up stories as he goes along, the sense of humor that he shows here is gold when accepting the jokes, joking with himself as a bad director, I imagine that it was going to be a lot of fun to see that the haters have swallowed all his stories and believe that they have exposed him when he knew what he was doing and With that he achieved all the success to this day, in his 70's they continue to talk about him, keeping him current.

The only reason Time Warner let him direct "ON DEADLY GROUND" is because they wanted him to agree to Under Siege 2. ODG was not a bad film mainly because Seagal was kept afloat by a talented cast. Joan Chen, R. Lee Ermey, Michael Caine who it was nice to see as a villain. John C. McGinley is always a great "heavy". Billy Bob Thornton made a cameo. That being said, Seagal's ego shines through. The Inuit spiritual rebirth sequence makes you shake your head...not from cultural disrespect, but the fact that it was shoehorned into the film. Then there is the speech at the state capitol in Anchorage when Seagal's ponytailed ass should have been arrested for trespassing, domestic terrorism, industrial espionage, not to mention multiple counts of homicide. The panoramic shots of the Alaskan wilderness were the most memorable aspects of the film. Hats off to the cinematographer.

He seems pretty normal here. But On Deadly Ground is where the sanctimoniousness and arrogance started getting so over the top that his movie sales began slipping. The movie is very entertaining, but a lot of the fun is laughing at Seagal. He had one last big hurrah with Under Siege II after that, which did over 100 mil, believe it or not. But that was it. It kept slipping from there. Fire Down Below was one of his minor ones, but that was like the last time he was still the real Steven Seagal.

When did Seagal go from being a respected action movie actor to being a paunchy punchline?
@IsmailofeRegime
@IsmailofeRegime 2 жыл бұрын
Combination of things. Stories about being difficult to work with behind the scenes, stories throwing doubt upon his purported martial arts skills, Seagal using his directorial debut to build a monument to his ego as some great environmental warrior, and the general impression that his films just kept getting worse and worse. Plus his increasing weight gain. I'd say by 2004 his status as a "paunchy punchline" had been firmly established in American pop culture, and it's only gotten worse since then.
