Love your videos! I’m just one month in with fine hair (and low density areas). Your videos were so helpful when I was deciding if I would start my journey. My #1 tip is to embrace the early stages of the journey. I had no clue what to expect or how my hair would look (besides the few test locks from the consultation) until I just did it and this is truly the best hair decision I’ve ever made.

I am 3 weeks in and I had to wash my hair due to flaking. I also have thin edges as well. 1 - Washing your hair - Do the banding technique. It will make much more sense of why when you're doing the first wash. Due to reasons above I washed my hair at 2 weeks. I think I am good to not wash it again until the day before my 1st retie in 3 weeks. 2 - Throw away old products. You won't need it. If you use it then you will prolong the matting stage and have build up. You'll soon realize that you don't need them at all. 3 - I mist with homemade rose water 1-2x a week. It helps with my itchiness from dry scalp as it adjusts to no added products. My water intake is up. 4 - Hold off on using oils on your hair for at least 6mths and when you do add it to a water spray mix. 5 - Don't wet and cover your hair. It will begin to smell. Let it air dry. 6 - I workout, so take the sweatband off after you workout and use a hairdryer on low & cool to remove the sweat moisture. I drive with my windows down, so problem solved unless it's raining. 7 - Drink 1/2 of your body weight in water (oz), especially if you're taking hair vitamins. If you weigh 160lbs, than 80oz of water per day is your minimum target.

I am starting my 2nd month of sister locs and I was advised to spray about once a day (I do it in the morning before work). During the installation, I was advised to no washing, no oil, and no tying up my hair (I'm addicted to ponytails with my other hairstyles). I also have two extra problems. When my loctician washed my hair, there was a lot of dryness and flakingat the top of my head; which she'd advised to use "Blue Magic" on my scalp every so often. I also have trouble tying up my hair and the satin scarf capturing my kitchen and the ends. Any tips on these instructions I were given? Thank God and you for your videos and insights ❤

This was very informative. Thank you. I am 4 weeks Sisterlock installed!!🎉 Unfortunately, 2 weeks after installation I landed in the hospital, been here for 2 weeks 😖. I had plans to YT my journey but thought it was not possible now. But, I can take pictures and record some videos. 🙌🏾 because I’m in the hospital I have not had my first hair wash or retie. My cat puked on my satan headwrap the morning I was admitted and I’m afraid to have my satan pillowcase here, it might disappear. I do have a nylon scarf with me but I have an IV and cannot bend my arm. Challenges. If you have any tips for me, they would be greatly appreciated.😊 I considered Dry Shampoo. I’m so glad I have Sisterlocks. I don't know how I would maintain my natural hair in the hospital.😊

Today is my one month LOC'aversary. I am learning to embrace my locs at this scalpy baby stage. I was spraying water on them morning, noon and night. I was just told by my loctician that water slows down the loc'ing process and also make them frizzy. So now I am trying to spritz my hair (very lightly) every two days.

My sisterlocks are braided down most of the time, just installed a few days ago. My ends are loose though, and I'm afraid they'll tangle together instead of individually, if I leave them alone. Should i oil them, wet them, finger comb them, use leave in conditioner??? 😬
@TheRealKylaB
@TheRealKylaB Ай бұрын
@permafrost0979 you just got them a few days ago. So since they are brand new, I suggest leaving them alone. Do not oil them, finger comb them, and definitely don’t condition them. They won’t loc before your next appointment. Also, contact the person who installed them for advice when you need it!

I had to spray my hair everyday; it helped my lay the way I like. The reason for the smell is because you probably sprayed and covered your hair or layed on wet hair; not giving your hair air to dry. That will give it the "wet mop" smell.
@TheRealKylaB
@TheRealKylaB Жыл бұрын
Lol. The smell I’m referring to is from food, sweat, outside, smoke, etc. not from wet hair. I’ve never had a wet mop smell in my hair. I don’t spray my hair with water often. Not even once a week.

Hi, great content. Could you please tell me how to get rid of frizz? I’m 2 months loc’d but I’ve been spraying it every day and it’s so frizzy now.

are they permanent, and do they last , work on thick hair ?
@TheRealKylaB

Technically they can be combed out like any of type of locs but it would be A LOT, A LOT, A LOT, of tedious work to do so. & yes. It can also be done on thick hair.

My hair dresser told me not to spray my locs but they are so dry and feel crunchy. Why can’t I spray them? I see a lot of other people spraying theirs.

I really want to commit to these. My hair is only about 4 inches long but I'm used to getting braids at shoulder length. Do you know if you can begin the journey with extentions? Is that a dumb question?
@TheRealKylaB
@TheRealKylaB 3 жыл бұрын
No. It's not a dumb question at all. Sisterlocks are started with your natural hair only. Extensions are not associated with Sisterlocks, generally spesking. If you want to start off with extensions, then there are microlocks, or small traditional locks. You could always cut the extensions off over time if you are interested in doing that. Hope this helps.

C Cuffey, I just started my sisterlocks Jan 21 and I have 5 inches of hair, initially last year when I debated on Locs my hair was 4 inches, you can still get locs at your stage, trust me you’ll love it. The little curls are the cutest when our hair is this short, I love this stage. I call mine my “new curly babies “. Come on over to the loc community and trust the process and enjoy every stage!

I’ve had micro twists non locked hair for a couple months. My hair is short. 6.5 inches stretched about 2.5 visible with my shrinkage. I do small braids (basically five sections along the front of my face the way I want my hair to lay with a bang to one side, so three on one side and two on the other and similar sizes through my whole head. I start by pulling the hair (3-7 mini twists per split section I’ll be holding while forming a plait so about 15-21 twists per plait) this I will pull away from my scalp (starting the plait low far-ish away from the roots/ scalp) then I plait all the way down to my curly ends or twist the end if I run out of hair. Then I tug the plait straightish roll the end up along the plait like a tootsie roll and keep rolling the plait up to the root area. Then I tuck the spiral between the twist bases into the mound made by all the space I left when I started the plait really low down. So basically I look like I have mini hills on my head when I’m done. It’s almost like hidden Bantu knots that protect my ends. Now this may be too much manipulation for real locs. But when I take it down my hair is fantastically full and ridiculously curly and cute. I wear a satin bonnet over (for prob only an hour as it comes off in bed). But even with my regular pillow case drying it out at night I have been able to use nothing but some almond oil to moisturize my hands first when taking it down. I poke the plait In the middle nearish the end with a mini wooden knitting needle to undo so I don’t mess up the twists trying to undo.

Note that I’m not actually trying to Loc my hair yet though. I’m checking if I can live with the style. So I will occasionally pick a section and redo my twists. With some water and a little conditioner in a spray bottle. So the over manipulation of plaiting your real locs nightly or every two nights as I do may be too much.

Not so much a tip for a new wearer but if you decide to cut it short (for me it was 5 years before reaching mid-back) give yourself an inch or 2 longer than what length you want it to be in case your locs start to unravel. Also, if your ends aren't "mature" as in the ends are no longer loose, then use a shower cap when you bathe so it won't unravel with the excess water or humidity.
