I guess when they put a vinyl player in a car, they forgot that road bumps is a thing. It's as smart as playing vinyl with a huge subwoofer.

Back in the day, when most cars had ‘vent windows,’ everybody called them ‘wing windows.’ And I mean everyone. I never even heard the term vent window until many years after they were gone.

Push button automatic transmissions ended because the government mandated that starting in 1965 all manufacturers would use the PRNDL indicator. Up until 1964 many GM cars used PNDLR indicators. I had a friend who after driving a FORD all week with PRNDL took his '59 BUICK out on the weekend and when he came to a hill he grabbed the lever to throw it in LOW, however, he ended up putting the BUICK in reverse while going down hill . It locked up the transmission, we all got out and rocked the car and it unlocked and continued on without a problem.

Car top tents are still very much a thing. My 1985 Dodge Ramcharger 4X4 truck had a hood ornament shaped as a ram's head. Some cars had them into the 90s. The Hurst shifter is still being used. The original "Hurst Performance" company was sold in 1970 to Sunbeam Products, with the shifters continuing production and use. Later the Hurst company was sold again, but is still in use.

5:10 The Cartop Tent is still very popular in Australia. I'd never seen one prior to my two-week trek through the Outback in 2019 in a pulled caravan. Few people had ground tents. I figured with Australia's infamous creepy crawlies and slitherings, people wanted off the ground.

To me, the mid 60s was the height of car culture. The number of options was something. Some car options - 2 door or 4 door, notchback or fastback, hardtop or sedan, sport options (Chevy SS and so) station wagon and even a pickup truck bed, seat cloths or plastic, interior trim options, exterior options, engine (many choices), transmission manual or automatic, shifter (column or floor), wheel options and hubcaps, radio AM, AM/FM, and even cassette. Then the color - any color paint. There were other options, too many to list. buying a car today how many option choices do people have? What I mean choice innovation also no longer exist.

This younger generation is missing out on front bench seats. Straddling a center console is no fun. Get it? I also miss the wing windows. The electric ones that go up and down don't count. You could use them for ventilation in bad weather and not soak the inside. It was also useful for smokers. They sucked the smoke out and the ashes with a simple flip. Speaking of bad weather. I find it extremely irritating not have roof gutters. They actually work quite well for keeping the water run off from coming in a slightly opened window. Gee. Bring back the wing windows and you wouldn't need the gutters.

There is a very rare car parked about a mile away from my house ! It is a 1970 or 71 chrysler 300H factory Hurst addition and the thing is in amazing condition for being parked outside under covered parking with no cover over it! I just hope it doesn't end up burned up by a careless resident of the apartments.

On clutch type transmissions, in todays world where automatic transmissions rule, manual shift transmissions, with the cutch, can be theft deterrent devices. if you leave the transmission in high gear, some people can not figure out how to get the car going, maybe not even start it. Theft deterrent by old knowledge.
