Hell yeah, Nick! I was so nervous when i first started thinking about using a flash! But, just like you said, you don't need a whole lot of $$$ to get good results, especially in a controlled environment/studio. Especially working late at night/early in the morning, you can't always count on window light. Next on the list is some better backdrops and props for my photos. One day, my stuff will be on your level Nick! Thanks for all the dope content on your insta and here. It's awesome how approachable you make all of it!

Nice video, your results with this setup are encouraging! But does such a cheap flash, bounced and diffused, really overpower your other bright light in the room? I often read only more powerful strobes can do that correctly
@NickAndersonCreative
@NickAndersonCreative 3 жыл бұрын
for the most part it does! I try and only keep like a lamp on or something small power to help focus and then I'm good! If you have big lights in your room then it will most likely overpower the flash!

Nick, like in your another video here also I can see another light on your right top corner. So do you use two lights or only single speed light for your shoots? Please clarify as I am a little bit confused. Thanks in advance.

Just like the other video, I only rely on the strobe for my photos. The secondary light is only for the video and won’t show up in the photos.

Hi! This may be a stupid question, but in the video there is a light in the upper left corner at the back. Isn't that necessary for taking the photo? You can't see the light of that light in the photos? Sorry for the question if I ask a silly question. If it is necessary can you describe it?
@NickAndersonCreative
@NickAndersonCreative 2 ай бұрын
It makes no difference in the photos. I’m just using that for the video to help illuminate what I’m talking about. The flash and shutter shoot fast so it doesn’t capture any of the continuous light
@HamzReviews
@HamzReviews 11 ай бұрын
Hey Nick thanks for such a great video. I wanted to ask, how would you use this setup if you were shooting inside a restaurant during the day if there is a lot of natural light coming in through windows etc?
@NickAndersonCreative
@NickAndersonCreative 11 ай бұрын
The same setup applies! The flash should cancel out the ambient/natural light. If it’s affecting your shots, turn up your flash and shutter speed or move to a darker place in the restaurant

When you're shooting, there's a continuous light source behind you and above. You didn't mention it; it seems like it has an effect on the subject; doesn't it?
@NickAndersonCreative

That’s really just for the talking head segment of my video. Since my shutter is pretty fast when I’m taking photos, that light has no affect on my subject!

From the explanation in this video it seems like your photos are back-lit by this flash-umbrella-diffuser setup. This would probably result in shadows on the front? Yet somehow sample photos look like they are lit from the front as well. Is there a second light source we're not seeing? Something bouncing off of a ceiling, or a reflector, or some other fill light?
@NickAndersonCreative
@NickAndersonCreative 2 жыл бұрын
The light is just super soft and does a really good job of filling in around the front of the food/product. Let me know if you try it out!

@@NickAndersonCreative I love your bright backlit photos, but when I try to replicate your setup, the front of the food looks way too dark. Also, when I use sidelight, my photos look too "real" (?) in which they're not dreamy, bright, light, etc. Maybe more videos on your set up, a walkthrough of shooting a particular dish, food styling, composition... anything at all! I just love your photos and so badly want mine to look the same haha :)
@NickAndersonCreative
@NickAndersonCreative 4 жыл бұрын
Daylight 14 I can definitely do that for you! It just takes a lot of trial and error. Try using a bouce white board opposite of the flash to brighten some of those shadows!
