I can't imagine the absolute ear-wreckage of being near 3000 hp cars. I've been in the stands near cars making maybe a bit over 1000hp and it was ridiculously loud

It hurts so good! Sitting in the car is even better, you can get a nice breath of methanol exhaust to make your eyes and nose burn! Wouldn't trade it for anything!

I highly recommend going to an NHRA national event. If that’s not possible, find the closest track and find out if they have a nostalgia nitro event. Eddyville Raceway Park in Iowa has an event every year called the Night of Fire. Small tracks like that typically allow you to get closer to the action.

I doubt it's still allowed, but back in the 70's, I was allowed to stand about 8 feet to the side of the top fuelers during launch. Aside from every effort to protect my ears, the most noticeable thing upon launch was my CHEST hurt from the pounding. It's THAT loud. The second thing was that a few seconds later, a stream of little black droplets of burned rubber floated down on to my clothes. What's more, the engines these days probably have near twice the power.

Not just A drag car....everyone should experience top fuel dragsters at least once in their lifetime. If you want to physically feel the power of these cars without having to ride in one....those are the ones to see.

Look how cool mikes injector hat is!! If you notice when the butterfly’s open the center support for the butterfly Rod is also a fuel rail that is misting the air entering the injector hat thus cooling it way down. Methanol is a beautiful thing because of its natural cooling effect. This is why turbo Promod’s running alky don’t need a intercooler because the fuel does it naturally

Not only is it a great evaporative chiller but the methanol is being sprayed in to lubricate the blower. Actual racing blowers normally utilize teflon stripped rotors. The better the rotor to rotor & rotor to case seal is, the better the performance. They don't run dry very well, just trashed in short order.

mytmousemalibu your right the extra fuel up top will help cool and lubricate the rotors. But it displaces air in a lot of cases. The OD strips are nylatron and the rotor to rotor strips are Teflon . Most teams have gone away from stripping blowers each run. Many of the teams run Bill Miller’s rotors and end frames and we go many runs before we strip them.

mytmousemalibu now days we run Astro glide in the blower luber set to go off at about 2.8-3.0 seconds in the run so the rotors don’t run dry during the lean out phase or after the fuel shut of is hit by the driver. You see every one knows guys run “hat nozzles” above the rotors to cool and lube and the 4 dribbler ports in the back of the blower case. But now guys are running a hatomozer spray bar from Don Jackson or the trick injector Mike makes as a intercooler . It sprays a super fine mist to pull the heat out of the air . If your ever at a NHRA national event stop by the snap on funny car pit I’m the guy with the big tool box playing with blowers fuel and ignition all day

Qatar, where the money goes faster than the cars. When a lot younger, I loved going to US 30 Drag Strip in Gary, IN. Loved watching the rails and funny cars. Later the cars would run in different classes, they all looked slow in comparison. Now I prefer a factory muscle car, a car most can buy but not drive because of high insurance rates. Paid a little more to sit in pit row. Good times are gone, but I have those memories. They even had the Green Monster on tour, a jet engine powered vehicle. Reaction time can make you a winner or loser. The laptops are so valuable for the adjustments needed.

The reason why it doesnt have many people visiting is because the drag strip is about 30-50 min drive away from any major towns and in doha the traffic keeps you driving for about an hour to an hour and a half

If it's the same one from an older video, it's a very big custom built V6. Something like 500ci. They built it to be the fastest V6 powered car.

Nhra 500ci with a blower 1/4 mile ET 3.70 all day. Blower car's is where it's at then nitrous then turbo's. But one day them turbo's will come a head.

Cool as hell. Makes you appriciate how bad arse the Pro Line Hemi's are though, making 2200hp more than one if these. Our Australian Top Doorslammers make a bit more power than these too- that'll do a touch over 3000hp at the hubs! The 2 way dyno battle held at the Summernats this year was mind blowing- a 3000+hp run from a well known Top Doorslammer going up against a turbo Commodore which put out 3076hp for the win, best 2 outta 3! Bad arse shit. Especially indoors. Wow, what a sound

But, I have a question for you, I'm sure I've missed a few race videos from Qatar, but I have yet to see a race there, with any amount of fans in the stands (maybe a dozen or two).... Why is that? I know it's a small country, but considering the size of the stands and the amount of seating.... why so few fans??

Totally about to be that guy but Tutterow brought his pro mod out to our local track(piedmont in NC) and the sound was unbelievable. I think he set the record there too. Come to think of it I think they stopped letting pro mods in after that, wish I could remember the time.
