I think Jerry was a great character. A very likable and decent bloke. The actor portrayed the role impressively.

@@mohammaddavoudian7897 Jerry and Deirdre kept Len and Ray's business going when they were being stupid buggers about it. Then they tried to get rid of Jerry to save money.

I suppose the type of society that coronation Street was based on no longer exists. It makes you wonder whether coronation Street can really go on as it is.

That was a very good scene mrs Walker, Maggie & Betty in the aftermath of Cyril's death. Annie spoke a lot of sense .

How prophetic that a death is announced at Len & Rita's engagement, especially with Jerry's monologue, only for Rita to receive similar news 9 years later.

And again, at a party. Martha Longhurst passed away at Frank Barlow’s leaving do, Val Barlow was killed during her own farewell party, Harry Hewitt, Derek Wilton, Don Brennan, Alf Roberts, Judy Mallett, Maxine Peacock, Ray Langton, Fred Elliott, Liam Connor, the tram crash deaths… Many more I’ve missed out probably. The juxtaposition of jollity and tragedy is a winning formula when it comes to dramatic effect.

@@leoparkes7536 Yes it is a formula that has worked since Martha Longhurst's death in 1964. Other soaps copied it as well.

With a bit of creativity he could have been an unseen character. He could have retired and taken up some bizarre hobby that kept him out of sight. They could have done it that we never found out what the hobby was. "Is Cyril at his club again?" "He is, I daren't think what he's going to bring back with him tonight. He's started taking over the back bedroom with it now." "As well as the shed and coalhouse? Eeh, Betty, love, yer've the patience of a saint."
