You could invest in getting a cricut or similar to cut adhesives for you in the future!! Simply scan or take a picture of the device needing an adhesive, draw the outline, then use a sheet of adhesive you can easily source online and then you can make your own gaskets/adhesives! Great for older/odd devices that people rarely make parts for.

It's really crazy how you can see the phone's internal components and battery all, one-by-one being disassembled and re-assembled, really amazing and a precision requiring thing, but i wonder why devices cant be simpler. To disassemble them in a simplier way without requiring advanced skills to change a specific component of the device inside. Im curious which devices or models could be repairable easier or hard, i mean changing battery should be easy done for consumers because batteries go bad and we need to replace it and not be forced to change device every 2 years.

I'm so glad the curved screen fad seems to have mostly died at this point. My last phone had a curved display and it never really gave any real benefits I could tell beyond looking neat, however the one time I dropped it and needed a screen replacement it was quite steep. Recently moved to S21+ and I'm happy to have a flat screen again.
@rolls_8798
@rolls_8798 2 жыл бұрын
for me (with an s8) I find the curved display nice for immersivity (it's a pretty cool effect to feel like you're just a holding a screen) and ergonomics because it matches the curved back. The edge panel is also very useful. That being said, with samsung's pretty bad touch rejection, you definitely need a case, screen protectors are hard to find, apply, and are expensive and I guess I could do without it - screen replacements just aren't viable at all on s8's and s9's but that's a little to do with the high-res amoled panel

Too bad it's just OLED that you're using and it's still stupidly overpriced and gimmicky.
@rolls_8798
@rolls_8798 2 жыл бұрын
@@acumenium8157 are you saying that oled is gimmicky? and that you'd honestly prefer lcd? idk about overpriced either, there are at least some great value phones that have it, just a shame that apple still sells lcd on their phones now, especially when they cost so much, and then they hit us with this 'liquid retina' garbage. also, just found out that iPhone 11's had LCD for like no reason and apple like told no one (listing it in the specs does not make them honest)
@acumenium8157
@acumenium8157 2 жыл бұрын
@@rolls_8798 Sure am! OLED burns in like crazy, is super dim, and struggles with non-black colors. I'll take a good IPS over some OLED any day. And yes, OLED costs vastly more than IPS. Using your iPhone example, it's the difference of like 5x the cost. One of the iPhones had an OLED or IPS screen. OLED was 5x the price. Like 150$ instead of 30$. Because anyone can make IPS. Not anyone can make OLED. OLED is also very fragile, which in a handheld like a phone is... not good. Speaking of that, there's no real practical use for OLED other than a television. Anything else is too prone to severe burn-in due to static elements, like the taskbar on the bottom of Windows, or other UI elements similar for Android/iOS, etc.
@dudesk099
@dudesk099 2 жыл бұрын
@@acumenium8157 I'm sorry for whatever bad experience you had years ago but I would never go back to lcd. I assure you any modern oled phone will get plenty bright depending on how you adjust the brightness. I've personally never run into the burn in issue since I don't literally use my phone at 100 brightness on the same screen for hours at a time. My S10 from 2019 still had 0 burn in. As for fragility I can't speak towards that, outside of that one drop I haven't cracked or majorly scratched a screen in probably 10 years and I've been using oleds for over half of that time

Afaik back in 2014 samsung released the Note Edge. And it was much smarter idea cuz it had the curve only on one side (so you can type just fine with one hand, using the other side of the phone). Plus it was a bigger curve, as there was no space for any buttons on that side, and also the software treated it like a separate screen, so no app would actually cover it (no stupid colour inversion on the corners, especially when watching movies). And at the same time the phone featured metal chassis + removable battery. Sadly they no longer make this kind of devices.

Glad to see that you managed to get this back into a fully functional state! Most people would probably replace the display & mid frame as one whole assembly, which, whilst avoiding the need to unglue and reglue the display, would also involve a lot of work in removing and replacing every component into the new frame/housing. So either way, not a cheap or easy repair, but still, a good repair as it is now fully working once again and is saved from landfill.

Hi Hugh Jeffreys. Is the original battery still safe to use after being removed? A lot of repair guides usually recommend that once you remove a battery, you shouldn't reuse it in case it was damaged during removal.
@HeX341
@HeX341 2 жыл бұрын
If you didn't poke it or bend it, it is perfectly safe to use, especially if the battery in question is still retaining good life and capacity, then by all means reuse it. They just cannot guarantee that your battery replacement will be done in a manner that is safe for you, your phone and the battery itself, so they keep it safe, since you usually cannot go wrong with going with a brand new and an original battery.
