I love your vids!!! Quality of video, scenery, and content are A+. You are inspiring me to take a few more river trips. Question for you. Do you think an inflatable whitewater kayak would have been a better choice? Or even a raft with oar frame? Seems you are portaging a lot of sections that i would have ran without scouting. Cheers !!

Jim, what collapsible rod and reel combination are you using here? I have a few and they... work. But they aren't great. Mine are more like... consolable rods, I spend more time trying to pump them up to do what they were designed to do.

As I wait for more episodes of your current Yukon trip I’m bingeing on an earlier trip. The thing I love about you is that nothing seems to phase you. You take everything in stride and just deal with it. There is always a silver lining! Backpacking is a condensed version of life. Sometimes things go splendidly well and other times you’re fucked but you need to deal with it. My kids hate many of my quirky saying but this one applies “this too shall pass…”

Best kind of pot for backwoods trips is a 2 qt 'saucier'. A saucier is a sauce pan,, but it has a little more outward flare to it and usually has a pour spout/ notch. They serve very well as a fry pan (the sides are angled enough to get a spatula under something). More than deep enough for any soup or stew. I use a stainless lid. Easy to use for coffee or tea water with the pour notch to one or both sides. One pot for all the normal uses. Into this, I find the perfect sized stainless bowl,,, that can nest under the lid,, and a metal coffee cup of about 20oz. My one stainless bowl of perfect dimension is actually a stainless dog dish. The size and price were perfect. I use propane,, the short squat 1 lb bottles, with a single burner that sits atop. No liquid fuels in a canoe. In your video,, I did not see the canoe tied down. First, the canoe and camp site should be well above the water. River height fluctuation have spoiled many trips. Also, wind has carried away even more canoes. You lose your canoe,,, that is a long and impossible walk. I routinely travel with a 'leash' 25 foot braided approx. 7/16 nylon. Nylon is important. It is soft to the hand and stretchy. One attached at the bow, a second one at the stern,, velcroed on the top deck. They serve a multitude of purposes, not the least of which is as a 'Jesus' line. If you roll that canoe in Cataract Canyon, Colorado River,, at 20,000 cfs, You had best capture your own canoe via those lines immediately. You cannot allow it to escape. Deep in the wilderness,,, even more important. At night you always tie your canoe to a tree,, even if that tree is 100 feet away.

Jim was presented with an emerald lake area. Fishes came apparently easily! Although the log cabin could represent someone else's presence, I interpret that only Jim really dots the landscape, and this pleasant loneliness only intensifies his conection with nature itself. As if those portages had been waiting a long time for him! Hey! First drone footages! I particularly enjoyed the tea mug sip against the sun! Keep going! By the way, the tireness is visible in Jim's voice on this particular day!
