my favorite thing in the video, is the equal partnership with you and Tori and the strong family bond that all of you have. And it was nice seeing Tori catch the biggest fish!

Prime the kitchen pump. There are youtube videos on how to do that. If the pump system hasn't been used in a long time the gaskets may be shot. Thanks for the videos. Enjoy the summer guys. Edit to add you're doing a good job raising your boys.

Thanks a lot, I ended up priming and soaking the leathers but still nothing so it’s just that there is no foot valve

If you had a foldable Reflector Oven...you could bake some of that Brook Trout on a Cedar plank...gives it a great flavor. Or they make thin cedar wood wraps. Soak that cedar plank in water for a while...smear a light coat of cooking oil on it and lay a fine Brook trout filet on it - great favor. If you use a cedar wrap, soak it in water as well...then just need to wrap it around the filet.

When our son was six months old, we traveled the five hours to the camp in our Bronco. He was in a card board box between our seats. During that trip we decided to return to camp via a rude trail from the nearest town which was twenty miles away. It was June, black fly season. The trail was through swamp. Five miles in we encountered a beaver flooding. It was a hundred yards to the other side. I locked in the 4WD and crept forward. The water was above the floor boards. Somehow we climbed out of the flooding with the water flushing from the vehicle. Had we not, it would have been a bug bitten several mile hike to the camp. Good memories. Carry on.

Jim and Tory, this video makes us smile so much. Fifty years ago we bought a rustic log cabin on 40 acres of western upper peninsula wild land. It was a spur of the moment decision. We had snowshoed through five feet of snow to look at the camp. My wife was pregnant with our first child at the time but didn’t know it. We have many fond memories of our times there. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy your camp as your kids grow.

Congrats guys. I was looking forward to the first video at the new cabin. I have property on Bright Lake and can't wait to spend more time with the family there. Propane is a good option since it is already set up and working but look into dc fridge and lighting for the future with solar. Looking forward to future videos at the cabin.

Hudson you are the cutest!! Smartest!! Without a doubt the next great adventurer!! Baird family, you should be proud of that little guy. As always Wesley you have the most beautiful smile. You have challenges but you are overcoming. My degree is in physio therapy. Very impressed with Wesley and his progress. Wesley is who got me interested in your channel. Wesley has challenges but all challenges can be overcome. Or you just adapt. In any event it all works out. First video I watched you were traveling the Alaska Highway. Wes was a little guy. Been watching ever since. Tori you are one strong women. Jim you are man. The one true adventurer!!❤❤❤❤

Sweet get away place. You need to prime that pump by dumping water down it to soak the leather plunger if it hasn’t dried up to much. Nice video. Love your family.

Great episode. The beginning of many happy family memories for you all. Thanks for sharing the joy. Reminded me of our family off grid cabin in Muskoka. We also had a propane fridge that I remember my Dad often had to tinker with at the beginning of the season. Usually involved removing the burner and cleaning out any built up soot. The pump as I recal had a foot valve on it which allowed the water to flow up the pipe and not backwards thus losing the prime. Also acted as a screen for unwanted particles. Have fun figuring it all out.

What a beautiful piece of paradise! Your old boat is such a perfect vessel for loading up all the gear and canoe. Do you have to trailer it up everytime or can you dock it somewhere to then ride into the lake?

Hey Jim, next time you cook corn on the bbque try it with the husks on, just soak them in water first that prevent them from catching fire, 10-15 minutes they are usually done, time may vary. They steam in the husk, lots of flavour. Your way is good too cheers!

Wesley sitting up by himself. Wesley playing games with the family. Wesley’s beautiful interaction with Hudson. Displaying that bond between Hudson and himself.Hudson catching his first fish. Hudson helping clean the fish and Hudson carrying logs like a big boy was the best part of this video. I wish all children could experience the good life that your boys are living. 🎩 👒 off to you Jim and Tori for great parenting 🤗

Jim, awesome video! On the fridge...might be a good idea to clean out the fleu. This is essentially the long stove pipe right above the burner. It unbbolts....there will be a wire/coat hanger hanging down into pipe, this restrictor should also be cleaned. Cover the burner with a paper towel before you clean out fleu. These things don't really wear out but get dirty. Keep the content coming and sorry for tge unsolicited advice. Joe

The best advice I can suggest for your kitchen cast water pump is to watch your friend Dave Wipple videos on cast iron water pumps and how to rebuild/ refurbish them. Check those out on his channel and or call Dave ha :) Aside from contacting David there’s a really good chance that the leather parts that make up the internal parts are dried out, maybe rotten or maybe just need to be wet and supple? Do you know how to prime a pump? Try using it again after priming it and it might work just fine. Edit: another thing is to get a empty one gallon or 4.5 litre plastic jug with the cap and tie some para cord to the jug and attach securely to your water line/pvc pipe and you also need a weight like a rock or something you can tie onto with another piece of para cord and tie the other end to the pvc pipe. Make sure your water line/pvc pipe isn’t sitting on the bottom of the lake because it will get plugged up with silt. You need to keep the water line weighted down, it needs to be submerged and between the surface and the bottom. The visible bleach jug also lets everyone know the water line is there so they don’t run over it and cut it with the motor prop. Pardon the long message. I grew up spending much time on a remote lake where we did all this stuff, no electricity, no water well, no septic. Good luck! Beautiful place congratulations! Many years of enjoyment there, boys will enjoy growing up and learning about spending time remotely. Great learning opportunities for everyone especially getting off grid 👍🏻
