In February 2022 the UK was hit by the strongest storm in decades with winds of up-to 70mph widely reported across the country. The South of the UK was worst effected, with London Heathrow Airport suffering from extremely heavy winds and stormy conditions.
We decided to make the trip down to Myrtle avenue in an attempt to capture some challenging landings! These were possibly the hardest conditions we have ever filmed in, and even with a heavy 3 point base tripod, keeping the camera steady and level was near there impossible,
We started filming around 9:30am and by 11am, the winds were that strong that many aircraft were unable to make an approach. Those that did were hit with strong winds and wind-shear resulting in numerous go arounds. In total we filmed 14 of those go arounds, however there were many more during the duration of the day.
In this video you also see some crazy approaches, with aircraft being tossed about and battling the approach.
