Love that you don't just play the popular stuff. Not often you see High Tide or The Pretty Things mentioned.

High Tide, probably one of the earliest examples of prog metal along with King Crimson. They even had a violinist that left the band to join Hawkwind Fun fact: both the debut albums by High Tide and King Crimson were released on october 1969

Listening to these you can definitely hear the influence in bands years later like some of these riffs wouldn't be out of place on the first Danzig record haha, especially that Blue Cheer song very Twist of Cain esque.

This is nuts. I could see some of these riffs being played by really distorted, sludgy bands. Especially the Shocking Blue and 31 Flavors ones.

I love it when overlooked stuff gets some recognition. Great selection, great video. The Pretty Things, High Tide, Leslie West... And I'll check out those I don't know for sure! P.S. If you like, check out "Peace Loving Man" by Blossom Toes: I'm sure that riff inspired Black Sabbath's "Iron man" and it's one of the heaviest song that I know of that period (1969).

I recently discovered "Keep On Running" by the The Spencer Davis Group released in 1965... it sounds like you typical mid-60's pop tune but man, the distorted guitar for '65 wow! Curious if Winwood came up with and played that lick on the studio version?
