14' Rockwell Speed meter adjustment, cable length and minimum maximum rpm setting

Adjustment of the cable operated speed indicator. Sizes of common missing parts for the speed indicator. Also I should of mentioned that when setting your hard speed stops you need to set the low in back gear and the high in direct drive. It's most important that it dont go over 1600! Also when reading the speed indicator you should go off the bottom of the square dots on the speed decal for back gear and the top of the square dots for direct drive. The high side speeds are printed higher on the decal and the angle of the red stripe best lines up with the bottom of low and top of high. With the exception of 40 rpm.

Thanks for posting. My cable was missing and just figured with my luck more parts would be too. Now I know all I need is some cable and some good ends and I'll be good to go. Thanks again.

Great videos on the Rockwell lathe I got this same lathe back on December 2021 and have been checking it and redoing some of the pieces. Mine was missing the cable.

Thanks allot for posting this. Just what I needed. Luckily the part that you measured was in the cabinet when I was cleaning it out so now I know where it goes. Ha ha! Too bad the steady rest and the taper attachment wasn't in there. The spring is still there bolted to the headstock and looks in good shape. So off to Mcmaster Carr to order the parts.

Seeing how you dont have an original to measure. I would get 7 feet if your going to blindly cut it to 31.875. Just in case there is some sort of variance between machines. That way you have another chance to get it right if the first time is wrong...if it's right you can make a spare with the extra and throw it in the cabinet. Let us know if the 31.875 works out.

@@Depth_of_Cut Yeah thought ahead about that and ordered more than I needed. I am going to use some 3d printer filament to make a test length as well before I cut the wire rope though, measure it and add the length of the end fittings.
