Here are the warning signs of vitamin D deficiency most people ignore! Over 40% of American adults, and approximately 1 billion people worldwide are deficient in vitamin D. That’s a lot of people walking around lacking in this vital nutrient. As you may already know, lack of vitamins or a vitamin deficiency can cause serious health consequences if not addressed.
Because low vitamin D levels are affecting so many people across the globe, it’s important to learn the signs and symptoms of vitamin D deficiency. Since vitamin D has receptors throughout the body, it’s imperative that you get adequate amounts in order to stay healthy.
If you suspect that you may need more vitamin D based on this list, it’s best to talk to your doctor and get your blood levels checked. The good news is that a deficiency of vitamin D is easy to fix if your levels are lower than adequate. You can either you get more sunlight, consume more foods high in Vitamin D, or take a supplement.

I was diagnosed with depression at a young age. rarely went outside, developed agoraphobia, and stayed home almost every day barely leaving my room. once my old doctor retired I was replaced with a new one. she brought up vitamin d deficiency to me after doing lab tests for the medication I was taking. she told me to start taking vitamin d. and it’s helped me improve in a lot of areas. it really has made a difference to me.

I can definitely tell you Vitamin D is SO IMPORTANT! Vertigo, hair loss, weight gain, and especially for mental health. I was depressed and crying everyday over the silliest little things and even if I detected a tone change in my husbands voice. I was never like this before. Fast forward a couple months and I decided to book a surgery that would improve my health and weight loss. During all the steps for screening I had bloodwork so many times and it was discovered my Vitamin D levels were beyond the “low” point and I needed it pronto! Within a week of receiving the correct dosage everyday, it’s improved 10 fold and I don’t feel how I did. However, since I cannot absorb iron, B12, and Vitamin C either I’ve been diagnosed with malabsorption syndrome. I beg anyone whom has even one vitamin deficiency, to get a full mineral and vitamin blood panel done. It could save you months of depression and even save your life.

Someone named Laura asked how to get the full blood panel done, and you would have to ask your Family Doctor or a walk-in clinic doctor here in Ontario, Canada. It’s free under OHIP but there are a few here that we do have to pay for regarding more screening for blood disorders (which can contribute to deficiencies and isn’t limited to anemia). Hope that helps 😁

A couple of years ago, my mom had severe muscle pains. She feared for the worst and went to the doctor to get a blood test done. Lo and behold, her vitamin d levels were VERY low. If your doctor doesnt bring up finding a deficiency when you explain your symptoms, then find a new doctor. Unfortunately most doctors immediately start thinking what prescription pharmaceutical drug would address the symptoms rather than finding the root cause of what’s causing the symptoms in the first place

This! I've been prescribed anti-depressants in the past.. my new doctor tried to say I have borderline personality disorder due to my low extreme moods. I had to push for bloodwork and I am low in both vitamin D and iron (ferritin). I've connected with a naturopath who I feel is actually there to support my best interests. My current doctor does PPR and when I went to her about my hair loss she tried to offer me that service rather than doing bloodwork. Unfortunately accepting doctors are hard to come by here.

Some doctors have said having patients come in routinely for appointments to renew a prescription that only treats the symptoms is their “bread and butter”. Great business model for them if you think about it. You need to research yourself, get tested for Vit D, and discuss with your doctor. If you bring up the discussion they will try to help you. If not, find another. Most doctors go into the profession to truly help people, but some are drawn in by the money.
@rahelabebe4

@@tomunderwood4283 absolutely makes sense. My doctor refused to let me test for vitamin D last year despite it being a test I pay out of pocket for. She finally agreed this year and I’m low in both ferritin and vitamin D despite her saying I’m fine. We have a doctor shortage in my province so finding a new family doctor has proven difficult. In the meantime I’ve been doing my own research and working with a naturopath who actually listens.

@@missmichelle2201 yes, unfortunately. But I’ve been going through that for some time and I noticed that my hair loss was very severe and happened again the exact same time of year..in the spring. When I started looking it up, I found out there was such a thing as “seasonal hair loss” which occurs from being indoors and not getting enough sunlight. The body says you don’t need that hair to protect your head if there’s nothing to protect it from. I had been in college classes the past couple of years and cooped up inside studying so much. Never in my life through anything had I lost this amount of hair. And never had I been so cooped up. So it just makes sense to me that whatever vitamin D my body creates or uses from sunlight has been suppressed. Then I found this video and didn’t even know there were other symptoms for a lack of vitamin D.

@@christinamorin1914 I ask because I was diagnosed with depression a few years ago. I started doing my research because not one medication I was put on worked for me. I asked my doctor and mentioned to him that maybe I was low on vitamin D, but to my surprise he thought it was just better for me to try a different antidepressant. I just decided on my own to take vitamin D supplements and my motivation has improved so much. In my opinion doctors dont care as long as they are making money. I'm not saying that depression isn't real because it is. But I also think that low motivation, tiredness, and feeling half dead can be mistaken for depression when in reality your just lacking vitamins.

My 16 y/o son has struggled for 2 yrs. It began w/anxiety but became so much more. What was tricky is that he’d exp life altering events & trauma that any adult would struggle w, let alone a kid. But it got to the point that he was having freq panic attacks, severely depressed, unable to concentrate or function @ school, exhausted but unable to sleep, list goes on & on. We attributed all of this to mental health but his psychologist suggested a full physical. (Mind u he’s 6 ft 3” healthy looking boy). Boy, was I shocked w/the labs. His Vit D was 4! And his thyroid is overactive, fort due to a “hot nodule” that is seemingly becoming less active. He’s been on massive Vit D for 2 wks & is already noticing some improvement. Def not “well, but after 2 yrs, it brings me to tears to know he has even a small amount of relief. And I will forever regret not realizing sooner that there were physical causations beyond any of the mental health. Do yourself a favor & have the labs run.

My symptoms included feeling tired all the time, intermittent depression and mild suicidal thoughts, low endurance and some hair loss. On the other hand, women of child bearing age should have their iron levels checked too. I found out my ferritin levels were low which contributed to my fatigue, dull skin and hair loss. Dr. Steven Gundry said, he has never ever seen a toxic level of Vitamin D. He said he regularly takes 15,000 per day. You have to remember that when you look at FDA (minimum) levels. That means before you start showing signs of diseases. If you know a gym rat... they normally are a great source of nutritional information. Unfortunately, Doctors are not trained in nutrition so you have to get your info elsewhere. It’s shocking and sad that Doctors know nothing about nutrition. Check out Dr Steven Gundry. He is a Cardiologist turned Gut Doctor/Nutrition Expert and entertaining to listen to. Lol Good luck

The one thing you're leaving out is that taking vitamin K2 with vitamin D helps your body store it better and deliver it to your bones, along with calcium. I used to be severely deficient of vitamin D and started taking a copious amount of D3 each day and after a year, my levels only increased by a small margin. I then started taking calcium and k2 and after less than a month, my vitamin D level were normal.

It's so nice to read the comments. Like me, everyone regretted not seeing this video much earlier. Those trained on the medical field usually tend to neglect checking these vitamins (and minerals) and is not even included as one of the basic exam to be done. If it was, imagine how much we'd save by preventing so many signs and symptoms due to deficiencies or excess thereof.

My doctor seriously told me that he never test for vitamin D deficiencies because he thinks it’s a “trend“. After asking him more than once if I could get vitamin D deficiency testing and getting nowhere with it plus being super depressed and in pain I ended up finding a new doctor finally. Testing was done my levels are 27 and she’s going to have me take supplements at 10,000 UI for a month and then test again. I’ve also had Hashimoto’s for the last nine years and those two go hand-in-hand so I really wish I would’ve known about this so long ago it would’ve saved me so much sadness.

Like many here I have almost all the symptoms and have been telling ALL my doctors for years how lousy I feel. My main complaints were unexplained muscle pain, bone pain, and extreme fatigue. Top three symptoms mentioned here. After seeing this video and self diagnosing my cardiologist ordered blood test and sure enough very low Vitamin D levels. Thanks for this wonderful video!! Follow up: After being diagnosed with low vitamin D I immediately started taking 2000 mg daily of Vitamin D3 and made a conscious effort to get more sun. It didn’t happen overnight (actually close to 3 months) but I now can take walks pain free and without restrictions. I may not feel like I did when I was 30 but great compared to where I was at. I used to dread walking from the parking lot to the grocery store. Now I take long pain free walks every day. I had blood work done just last week and my vitamin D levels have doubled to put me within the normal range. Please pay attention to your body and this video and perhaps it could have the same positive impact on you!!

I just found out I had vitamin d deficiency in November 2020 after having a blood test. I have read that Vitamin d deficiency is often overlooked by GP’s and a blood test is not automatically given for Vitamin d deficiency by your GP, unless you request that to be done. The blood test for Vitamin D Deficiency was taken by a locum doctor at my GP’s surgery without me known and not by any of the partners at my surgery and I’m so grateful to her that she did that blood test. I had heard of Vitamin D Deficiency, but I never knew about any of the symptoms until I had that blood test in November 2020. So for anyone in the UK who has similar symptoms, request a blood test for Vitamin D Deficiency. It could be caused by other medical issues as well. But if it is Vitamin D Deficiency it can be medically treat very easily. Although I’m still not feeling 100% fit and healthy as of yet!

@cfitz4397 4 жыл бұрын
@@juliekane7210 Vitamin D helps your body absorb Calcium. Calcium is one of the Major Minerals (aka macro-minerals). Adults need 1,200mg daily. Here’s some info about calcium deficiency: draxe.com/nutrition/calcium-deficiency/ Vitamin D3 - is one of the fat-soluble vitamins, meaning your body can store excess of these in the liver and fat tissues. The other three that are fat-soluble are A, E, and K2. Vitamin D isn’t always thought of as a vitamin since we make it ourselves. Humans produce vitamin D when exposed to sunlight. A daily dose of about 20 minutes of sunlight provides all we need. Vitamin D3 is the most effective kind, the same that comes from our own skin and lichen. We should get 5,000-6,000 IUs daily. See info on Vitamin D deficiencies: www.everydayhealth.com/news/illnesses-linked-vitamin-d-deficiency/ More on D3 (cholecalciferol): www.webmd.com/drugs/2/drug-6152/cholecalciferol-vitamin-d3-oral/details

How refreshing to hear a clear, easy to understand, no nonsense medical guide. Before taking VitD I endured lethargy, aching bones, low mood, fear of coping in social situations, difficulty concentrating and other problems mentioned in the video, to a lesser extent. The strangest thing was I had many bouts of what i believed was labyrinths or vertigo as it is often wrongly labelled. This is when you, wrongly, feel your body is in motion after getting to your feet. I was never advised that a deficiency in VitD could be the cause and was never given drugs that could relieve it. I have been taking cod liver oil capsules for about 6 months and the dizziness has never returned. This is also true for the physical symptoms mentioned above, but not the psychological ones, in my opinion, but they definitely haven't worsened. I had never been aware of a link between VitD and labyrinths but am now convinced it treated it successfully. VitD shall remain part of my daily supplementation with this knowledge as, regardless, I have nothing to lose and everything to gain. I would add the only other supplements I use are Omega3 and 6. Note. When I studied bioscience at university in the late 80's/early 90's, I asked my physiology and food science lecturers about possible unproven nutrients. Both of them mentioned Omega3 and Omega6 compounds, which I had encountered in membrane structures, but I never forgot that they both said, if they were to bet on the next big thing, it would be a fat soluble compound and the liver might be a valuable source of it/them. It might be proven they were wide of the mark, but I would be inclined to listen to them as opposed all this pseudo science we see in the media and online.

He said, my level were too low and he was surprised that I was even walking. I started my treatment and thank God now all those symptom are gone, even my hair started to grow back.

Sorry for my very late reply, I just notice your questions. Bone pain can be described like, your in a cold room from a very long time that your bones start to hurt. I don’t remember the dosage but the Dr. Said that the RX can only get it through through prescription. You take once a week. I didn’t not had any stomach nor back pain.

I was diagnosed with a vitamin D deficiency. My doctor prescribed a 15000 mg supplement that I only took once a week. I saw a positive difference in my energy level and mood in just one week. The doctor did not renew the prescription and advised that I get over-the-counter supplements. After consultation with her I am taking 1000mg every other day. Who knows if it is a placebo effect, but I feel much better after addressing this deficiency.

Story time: I'm a fitness addict, keeping my body fit and lifting weights is my absolute favorite thing to do, and to maintain a strong looking body I have to eat a lot. But then last year in November something happened. I suddenly felt fat and I mean really fat. On top of that I was injured on my right arm. Those things messed me up so much. If I ate a single piece of bread I'd cry because I felt fatter because of it eventually I rarely ate and it got to a point that I became way too skinny and lost all the muscle mass I had (granted it only was around 2 years but still) you could see my face be super thin that you could see bones and I just wanted to die. Eventually I told my doctor what happened and after getting my blood work done I had incredibly low vitamin D. I had to take a medicine for 8 weeks once a week. And after that the injury went away I started eating without regret and went back to training like I used too.

Please have your thyroid levels checked! Also, get in the habit of feeling your throat, especially front of the thyroid gland, every morning and evening, becoming aware of any lumps. there is more thyroid cancer than breast cancer. early detection is lifesaving. That extreme degree of sleepiness, low vitamin D might not be the only culprit. As others have pointed out, Low D is associated with cancer. Good news: most (like over 90%) of people with thyroid cancer never have a future cancer.

@@yvonneburns2786 Yes, I bought a SAD light, seasonal affective disorder light on Amazon. 30 minutes a day. I put it in my kitchen when cooking or in my living room. It helped a lot. As to the comments of the sun comes up everyday. Oregon, Washington and Alaska is further from the equator, and have gray, cloud cover 6-7 months out of the year. Add the smoke from yearly SUMMER fires covering the skies, and you get very little sunlight. I'm moving to Wisconsin in 6 months.

@@margotmelvin1578 In the Northwest we get 6-7 months of cloud covered, gray skies and we are further from equator. Add summers of choking smoke filled skies due to massive wildfires and you get no sun for 10 months. So, yeah the sun rises daily, but it doesn't shine everywhere.

OMG I wish I knew this. I have been suffering with Vertigo for almost a month. I feel exhausted and depress. I find myself crying everyday. Dizzy and Nausea all the time cuz of the virtigo. I was told I might have covid even though I would come out negative. I am losing my mind. I went to the doctor and he told me I have bacteria in my stomach thats why I was nauseous. Gave me medication I felt worse. Went to see an NP and she diagnosed me with Virtigo and did blood work and guess what? Extremely low Vitamin D. Today for the first time I will start my intake of Vitamin D. I pray I will start feeling better soon. I want my vertigo gone and my depression gone. I want to feel happy again. 😭

Hey guys, and thank you for making this video, I too have experience a lot of these symptoms, one thing I experienced was forgetfulness, I couldn’t remember people names that I went to grammar school with, next I was experiencing hair loss all my edges had fallen out, I was always tired, I could plan a date with friends, and change my mind and wouldn’t have the strength to go, my victim D level was a 11 in may, in December it went up to a 21, not from taking the vitamin D pills but from eating nothing but fruits and vegetables, but now I’m taking vitamin D I can’t wait to go to the doctor and receive the good news that my levels are normal ❤🙏🏽 praise GOD

I recently discovered, by accident, that I had a Vitamin D deficiency... it’s changed my life now I’ve addressed it. The main change has been in my mood... I’m no longer depressed as hell... I’m not perfect ..but I’m no longer suicidal! I now have 100% more energy.. That’s just the start of it.... let’s just say, anyone depressed and lethargic, please try a Vitamin D supplement.. nothing to lose!

May I ask, which IUs quantity you took everyday? At the store they have 400iu, 1000 iu up to 5000iu? I've been dealing with a lot of stress, anxiety, I think depression as well.. and I'm trying to self-treat myself to see if I feel better.

It’s very important, which makes you wonder why nobody in power ever mention the importance of vitamins and trace minerals in combating viral infections? All we ever hear is controls, stay at home mandates, and quarantines, which don’t necessarily hurt but they have never proven to overcome pandemics.

Exactly, they say: stay home, 6 ft apart, don't touch your face, etc. but fail to mention "start or maintain a healthy lifestyle" take vitamins, drink enough fluids, practice breathing techniques to expand your lungs, get sunshine, take garlic and pineapple juice. There's so much we can do and should do always, before we even get sick and if we do get sick, we have a low chance of getting intubated because we're already strong. but they don't want us healthy!

Doctors always forget this, but low vit D can cause secondary hyperparathyroidism, which has all whole set of problems of its own. It can cause a lot of pain. It took 4 years for a doctor to run the right blood tests on me. The parathyroid test is not the same as your normal Thyroid test most people get. I don’t want anyone to suffer like I have.
