SUMMARY
- The Egyptians used pictograms, which simply depicted words. Later they added characters that looked a lot like modern alphabets, which helped them to write down some abstract ideas.
- Before the Egyptians, there were no tables (as far as we know). So, they made this simple piece of furniture to keep the food off the ground and also for gaming purposes.
- Because of really hot climate, most Egyptians (at least, men) shaved their heads. That’s why when you watch a movie about ancient Egypt, most men are bald. However, some people wanted to have some kind of hair on their heads. So, when they felt like it, they used wigs.
- Archaeologists found metal beads in an ancient Egyptian tomb. In 1911 nine pretty small beads were found in the north of Egypt. But why were these beads so unique? The thing is, the Egyptians started to smelt iron only 2 thousand years later.
- they invented one of the first versions of toothpaste. It consisted of ashes, burnt eggshells, and ox hooves. Archaeologists even managed to find some guides on how to mix these ingredients to make the right paste.
- Scientists examined mummies and found severely worn out teeth even in young people.
So, to do something about the unpleasant smells from the mouth, they invented the first mints. They used myrrh and cinnamon, they boiled them with honey and made some kind of pellets.
- The Egyptians kind of invented antibiotics way before the 20th century, but it looks like they didn’t know it. They used moldy flatbread to cure festering wounds. They fermented something that looked like porridge that had very high levels of tetracycline which we know as an antibiotic.
- Both men and women in Egypt wore makeup. And it was a symbol of nobility. The more makeup you had, the higher your social status was.
- The world’s first police were formed during the Middle Kingdom period (years 2050-1800 BC). It included the most loyal warriors and foreign mercenaries. The Egyptian policemen didn’t have guns or cool badges, but they were armed with staffs and accompanied by dogs and trained monkeys.
- If the missed that day, all the harvest was at risk, so the Egyptians designed a system to be able to know which season it was. They had three seasons in a year: inundation, growing, and harvest. Each season consisted of four months, and each month had 30 days.
- You might have heard that the workers who built the pyramids were paid with 4-5 liter of beer a day.
- The ancient Egyptians possessed accurate medical knowledge that could be compared to modern practices. Scientists who examined mummies found traces of some truly challenging operations: heart bypass surgery, organ transplantation, and even plastic surgeries.
- Door locks were created in Egypt and China, probably because such devices were needed. The more neighbors you have, the more reasons to lock your door. The mechanisms of the locks were quite simple: there were special pins inside that didn’t let anyone open the door without the key.
- In one ancient settlement near Cairo, archaeologists found a playroom going back to 3200 BC with carved lanes and balls of various sizes for fingers. The rules were a little bit different from the modern bowling we all are used to.
- Eye infection was a common disease among the Egyptians. They used various methods of treatment: they used bactericidal paint and remedies made of… human brains.

Keisha Campbell have you ever eaten on a beach? You’re gonna get some grains of sand in your mouth. He didn’t mean they just added handfuls of sand to their meals😂
@arxsyn
@arxsyn 6 жыл бұрын
it had to do with the way they processed grain into flour. so the resulting flour was rather gritty from the sand in it... if you eat bread regularly made from the stuff, it must be really tough to chew on and wear down your teeth pretty quickly. FYI a lot of modern day commercial toothpastes are quite abrasive! Esp the ones that say whitening and tartar control. one of the tell tale ingredients is silica (similar to glass, sand, quartz)... If you brush very hard, multiple times a day with these gritty pastes, you can abrade your enamel away. sadly these harmful, "whitening" abrasive pastes dominate the shelves. choose a simple fluoride toothpaste along with a soft toothbrush that will be more gentle on your teeth! here's another tip... you are probably using too much toothpaste. try a pea size amount and learn to brush with the best technique (bass technique). all that foam (SLS) obscures what you're doing, fooling you into thinking you're doing an adequate job. chances are, you're not.

arxsyn No fluoride toothpaste. Fluoride does nothing to help but it does harm your pineal gland.
@arxsyn
@arxsyn 6 жыл бұрын
Carmen Morgan this is dis info. I know for a fact my teeth won't survive the modern diet without fluoride, preventing cavities by acting as a shield against acid and helps with remineralizing teeth. small amounts of Topical fluoride is safe, as long you're not swallowing it. also fluoride can naturally occur in water supplies and food. I am very lucky l live in an area where my local water supply does not have added fluoride. I am against that. Fluoride should be only used as a topical treatment, period. for the lucky young ducks whose teeth are strong with thick enamel, maybe you guys can get away with it. however, fluoride is cheap, and it is the singular thing that is proven to help prevent cavities, the most common disease in the modern world today. The biggest danger to teeth are ACIDS, and acid wear depleting the enamel of minerals for next level sci check out novamin toothpaste. I used one 10 percent hydroxyapatite, fluoride free... guess what? I saw the tell tale signs of white chalky weak spots, possible cavity sites! I freaked out, but was saved by a strong strength fluoride 2 percent solution. btw it cost me $23 a month for this premium toothpaste. Colgate costs me $1.12 on sale. You can try looking into mass market Repair and Protect toothpaste with Novamin and fluoride. has a lot of great things going for it, still pricey but far more affordable, but l HATED the gritty texture it left in my mouth, like particles of glass or sand. CONCERNED about abrasivity and scratching. I quit it too.

Egyptians also invented an early form of Sunblock, it was made of a mix of inorganic clays, oil and mineral powders as well as various plant extracts that are still in use today. No idea how effective it was, as a few of their early to late age mummies showed skeletal malformations that are characteristic of Gorlin's Syndrome. Or to give it it's common name: Nevoid basal-cell carcinoma syndrome

The 5 extra days, was when they thought that 5 different gods were born. These days were know as 'The Demon Days'. The gods were the children of Nut and Geb. There was Osiris, Horus, Set, Isis, and Nephthys. Each was born on a different day. The number 5 also probably held a big meaning for the ancient Egyptians, because they also had five parts of the Soul.

Fact I knew: The fact that sand in food destroyed their teeth. By the time they were 30 their teeth were ground down so much it caused all kinds of problems including infections and death. The pain from exposed nerves was excruciating and there was very little you could do to fix it. I wonder what they used for the pain? Many mummies had this problem. They also had gallstones. The sand that did get grinded down when wheat was made into flour at the mill entered the digestive system and ended up in the gallbladder. These stones were quite painful. I'm a teacher. I saw this in a 7th grade English book. I thought it was facinating.

Modern Egyptians have the same problem. If you go there you will see outdoor beehive ovens in which they bake bread. All the bread has grit in it because the wind whips the sand up each and every day, almost all day long. Their teeth are ground down to about half the length.

@CreekyGuy 6 жыл бұрын
@Suzanne Ribas - I hesitate to correct you, because you are a teacher (possibly in a language other than English?) However; you should know that the correct past tense form of 'grind' is 'ground', not 'grinded'. Otherwise; very informative.

The antibiotic part was interesting. There were many different ancient civilizations that used varies things like plants, certain types of muds, and even parts of animals to treat many different things that later modern medicine still use today. I'm not sure they knew why it worked but can you imagine living back then and getting injured or sick. I think it would be interesting to be able to go back in time just to observe their lives and be able to thoroughly understand it.

from the way i understand it Moses, the author of the first 5 books of the Bible, was raised as Egyptian Royalty, pretty much where he learned to write. for the most part of Western History, (i.e. modern day Europe, Britannia&USA) that is the beginning of history, written history, with the Egyptians and Moses and the Bible. with all that said, I always have a concern for what may have existed before, just because it wasn't written, doesn't mean it didn't exist. then again, its good to have a written document or written hieroglyphs at the least stating what did exist at that time
