I live in a little community (Yuba City) in CA, US with at least 5 Sikh temples. The biggest Sikh festival outside of India happens here. I wonder if the swords you saw were from Sikh vendors. Swords are certainly a big part of Punjab and Sikh festivals here. And the code of honor is admirable, one of the few cultures that if a teen boy, for example, is in a fight he's expected to end it without harming the bully (as protection of all is important) and even trying to preserve the idiot that jumped them's dignity. I do believe that the Sikh anti-poaching ranger squads in Africa are considered amongst the most effective (there's no question people know how to fight) Frankly, I love and admire my neighbors because they are always determined to leave any place they step better for them having been there. One of the holy men spoke of Christian friends teaching compassion and forgiveness and Muslim friends teaching self-discipline. All people, men and women of any faith or ethnicity are equal. There is an incredibly huge ethic of hospitality and after spending over two decades here I have NEVER seen a Punjab pass anyone homeless without stopping (pulling over) to help. Frankly anything stolen from Sikh guardianship while I was visiting a temple (yes, with head covered and shoes off respectfully) insofar as "checking shoes etc" would cause quick and widespread outrage within the Sikh community. Oh gosh, a thief would be considered so against everything Sikhism is. I get your caution with belongings whilst traveling but if you ever have a chance, find a way to visit a Sikh temple (where rule 1 seems to be no one shall ever be hungry!) ps: is 'SEEK' the pronunciation in India? I've only ever heard 'SiK' (like "pick") here, but the culture is certainly transplanted where I've experienced

Thanks for that great component. You seem very educated about Sikhism. Its a way of life rather than a religion that people have made it out to be.

While India is fairly inexpensive, but if you're traveling long term, many backpackers will still try to make their dollar stretch to travel longer. I look for deals where I can be frugal without compromising much of my comfort. =)

I have the Canon 80D now. Just got it. I used the t3i for several years. I am concerned about whether it's practical or not for quick video - (I'm a photographer- not so much with the video) - I was thinking of getting a camcorder today but now I'll probably get the G7 II. Your videos always look great. My travel list at this point is a Christine list for sure...
@grrrltraveler
@grrrltraveler 7 жыл бұрын
+Joel Graham I used my T2i for yeaaaars and only upgraded about a year or two ago to 70d mostly for the flipout/ touch screen. I probably still favor my rebel a bit for its size. The video quality is good on both but it's nothing like the ergonomics and built in zoom of a camcorder.

Vivek Bhalla I visited Pushkar and Jaipur for the festival in Nov 2017 and I recommend 3 days (2 nights) for Pushkar then 2-3 more days for Jaipur depending on how you like it. Edit: If you visit Pushkar outside of festival season then you can probably reduce the visit to 1 night's stay.

Thanks for mentioning how you felt after eating that falafel. The thing I am most nervous about when traveling to India is food sanitation! I'm vegan so I'm already hyper aware of what I eat but I am learning about unsanitary water and just the different ways in which food could be harmful. I have a lot of research to do and your videos are very informative and helpful for my up coming solo travels. Much love!

We are from India. Senior citizens. Our advice is wherever you go try eating simple vegetarian food freshly ( or immediately ) boiled and cooked food with little oil and spices. Specifically and strictly order for it at the restaurant.

GRRRLTRAVELER | Christine Kaaloa No women dont drink it...Specially in villages..But in Advanced cities some women do drink it on certain festivals like HOLI..and it has nothing to do with culture...There are some people who rumored that lord SHIVA...(a hindu god ) used to drink bhang...So they drink it as blessings...And its actully illegal if caught selling bhang...The drinks tourists actually gets are either flavoured or illegal...
