Just want to commend Luke on a really well done video, so nice to see his presentation skills getting better and better every video. Also, Rob, good job on taking the opportunity for an impromptu teaching moment, and it's a nice twist to leave that in the end of the video, rather than rewrite or add it into the script. my respect for you and rob just went through the roof on the way you two conversed and went through the experimental process. especially how rob knew the outcome but allowed you to discover on your own then inputting various ways to tweak the process for various applications. this is how true apprenticeships should run. hats off to you both

Awesome idea! I once had an idea that boosted the thermal output of my wood stove quite a bit. I used a large sheet of expanded aluminum (it's like sharp floor grating used for traction, except it's aluminum) and I folded/wrapped it around the chimney pipe. It emanates and stores extra heat that would normally go up and out the chimney, it also creates a safety barrier to keep someone from touching a normally 500 degree chimney.

Custom heated 3D printer base or heated enclosure would be an awesome application for this. Many of the 3D printer build plates don't heat evenly across the whole surface so you can get curling at the edges when printing an object that goes across the whole plate.

If you paint it on a substrate that normally acts as a heat sink then the ink heating up quickly could be balanced out by the heat sink properties of the material it is painted on. Still I would say that you did a fantastic job creating a simple heater unit that is portable and effective. Well done, and I look forward to the future videos.

Lovely chat, love it. I am amazed about the applications with this superconductive ink. Next step is to apply it to surfaces that are basically in a room already. I mean can you apply a strip of conductive ink to a window blind (horizontally or vertically) and use it as a big radiator to emit heat of 45 degrees or more? Can it be fabric or does it have to be some sort of heat-resistant plastic. Imagine having a 2 meter wide window blind with 5 cm blades all covered with ink to heat, how much current would it draw and could it be sufficient for a large room. BTW, what happens if i paint this conductive ink on a standard convector heating element usually filled with water and run by a boiler and pump. Does it work and will it transfer the heat (without the cap on temperature) to the fluid inside so the same way convection is triggered? I asked me this over and over, why not paint on a convector element. Best of both worlds. Radiating heat and convection.

Another interesting video! Has Rob been giving you lessons on innovation? You have a couple of options to "improve" the heater. Chuck a Diode inline. This would half your power consumption all on its own (half wave rectification) The second is for the next iteration (because you know you will). Reduce the width of your painted strips. Half the width half the power because you double the resistance (V/ IR) or you could increase the length of the track by doubling back on yourself and then again if you want the copper at both ends to increase the coolness! You could get creative with your patterns on this one. If you "play with electronics" there you could have a phase converter inline by using a couple of resistors and a triac or fet .... but you would need to watch interference being broadcast by the fancy ariel. TBH if you want to play the world is your mollusk on this kind of thing! ;o)

Maybe thinner strips by using 50mm masking tape and 10mm ink strips mught be sufficient to get the resistance higher . I really like the glass perpex combo and repurposed lcd screens have both in the them the same size ready to go! I will do just that today ! 👍🏻

If the ink can be sprayed on you might be able to get an even coat that's thin enough. Not sure how adding manganese dioxide would change things though.

I would love to see a 12volt complete application of using the conductive ink as a heater.

I baked some anthracite coal in a zero oxygen chamber and now I measure from end to end through about 2 inchs of coal a resistance of 1.8 ohms down from initial resistance readings in the Megaohms or kiloohms range, depending on where I touch my probes! If I break this coal down do you think I would have created graphene powder? Thanks!

I say that one better than even I could come up with. Could you use the conductive ink as part of robs magnetohydrodynamic experiment? Would it be possible perhaps to paint a larger surface say a wing structure and go one better than MIT ion powered flight? Thermal convection drive prehaps? As hot air rises cold air sinks. On the same vain as thermal indifference engine. I wonder how much weight a single panel can lift? Paragliding uses convection much like birds do. that can lift a human skyward? Would it be possible to use the heater to do the same?

Hey guys, Instead of making a lather pattern why don't you make a squared spiral pattern or a Zickzack pattern with the masking tape to get more of the desired resistance. I mean if you can calculate the resistance Ω per cm per thickness then you can use a combination of patterns to achieve the desired resistance.

Here's a stupid question: Given that wood ignites at ~300C, and this heater supose to stay at the 30's, why won't I just use a piece of plywood to make this heater?

Just one thing that copper tape is an inch wide not thick lol
