15 Airbending Abilities (Avatar)

Airbending, one of the four elemental bending arts, is the aerokinetic ability to control and manipulate air. The peaceful Air Nomads utilized this type of bending in their everyday lives. The key to airbending is flexibility and finding and following the path of least resistance. Airbending is notable for being almost purely defensive, as well as the most dynamic of the four bending arts. Airbenders can overwhelm many opponents at once with large and powerful attacks that could prove fatal; however, due to the pacifist nature of the Air Nomads, such attacks are rarely used. Instead, an airbender strives to use the opponents' energy against them. Due to their aforementioned spirituality, they often adapt to the situation surrounding them and employ negative jing, preferring evasive maneuvers as opposed to direct confrontation.

First of all aang became an air bending master at a very young age while in LOK the new airbenders just learnt air bending. Next is aang has his staff which helps him in bending while the new airbenders in LOK dont.

@@edennara you either have to create a new technique or master the 112 (?) airbending forms (i think i messed up a bit of that but the general idea is accurate) EDIT: looked it up and its 36 tiers, not 112. Don't know where I got 112 from.

@@edennara i don't know if astral projection was new It depends on what you call creating something, if you have an idea for something that has to do with airbending, made it, but didn't know it actually existed before, then is it creating something? I believe that astral projection did exist, but Jinora just rediscovered it Also, fartbending wasn't new, it's just that people don't fart a lot, and when they do, they don't really like to show it off

They can also remove air from an area. this was done by monk Gyatso, when he was surrounded by fire nation soldiers. He removed the air from the room, killing the firebenders and himself. his clothing wasn’t burned. Fire can’t burn without oxygen to fuel it

@@cowboylikedinos his body was in the air temple room, surrounded by the corpses of multiple fire nation soldiers. He had no signs of burns on his clothes, so he wasn’t killed by the fire nation. It’s not exactly proven to be true but it doesn’t take a genius to deduce what happened.

This is why airbending is the superior bending form. It can’t be used anytime, anywhere, can influence other elements because of its sheer force and compatibility with them, it’s can be used offensively and defensively, and has numerous nuances and hidden abilities.

Actually, when you have the ability to manipulate any element, their is no limit, of your abilities, Using Air bending, A bender could fly, A bender could float on water, A bender could take away others breathing, and leave them to death, Some abilities, that are possible, but not yet duscovered- A bender could survive prolonged periods under water, and underground, A bender could be invisible to others, A bender could stop every fire, (because O2 of air is one of the most important part of prolonged fire), A bender could blow the body of opponents and machines, A bender could deflect every attack back, A bender could stop the sight of opponents, A bender could use air to make any weapon, from swords to hammers, A bender could make people feel really heavy, to slow and even stop their moments, A bender could make a way between the ocean and even the mountains, A bender could pull or push opponents, And, their is much more things to discover.

Actually realistically all elemental benders can't become invisible unless water benders evolved to use different optical densities to literally bend light away from them. If they do that then there will be no light to reflect off them and into the eyes of others and will result in invisibility. But it's highly unlikely.

@@solidrelicyt3120 unlikely, extremely hard, but still possible. Air and Water benders could change the density of elements in atmosphere. While, earth benders could create a area of dust, And, Fire benders could burn the matter in air in a way to create a area of smoke, It is possible!!!

Creating a ball of dust doesn't exactly make u invisible it just helps the bender get out of sight. Not technically invisibility. But yes it is still possible. If I want me to elaborate and explain what I mean more then tell me.

@@brahmandsaraswat867 u also talked about air and water benders bending their elements, it would only work with water, because of the different optical density between air and water, water benders can create balls of water around them in such a shape that when the light enters the ball of water it does not reflect off the bender making them invisible. The only type of fictional bender that can do that is a light bender but they don't exist.

an air bender can also indirectly bend the other elements (to a degree) ,even fire and metal...imagine with the proper training in breathing an air bender could lower the temperature of liquid till it becomes ice

Speaking of enhanced speed, one of the problems I had with this ability was that it wasn’t used enough. What that means is when Aang used the ability it was used for comic relief and as an evasive technique. It would have been fun to watch if the speed was used offensively rather than defensively, because I think there are more applications to this ability instead of just defense.

I've got other tech. I could add to your list but then again I'm sure you do too! I won't however unless you ask and/or have a specific place I could send such information i.e. an email or redit forum. The increased speed & agility is a big deal that most people probably don't think about. Likewise, the self temperature regulation is too and not only for environmental survival either; it probably prevents prolonged combat with a fire bender or a water bender(that uses ice bending) from effecting the air bending's stamina as much during the battle. Oh man, I better stop before I start rattling of air bending tech. that you didn't mention 😅 I'm going to go make my on list, based off yours for role playing game purposes 😎 Great video

Idk if this is an ability but in the final episode of season 2, aang used a technique where he ran around in a cirkel fast and then released air in the form of his body toward Zuko to knock him down. It was pretty cool lol

In an alternative universe Aang was a earthbender and Toph an airbender. Toph was the first person to discover echolocation and soundbending.

It'd would be interesting to see sound bending like ventriloquism like throwing sounds or imitating sounds opposite of that muffling sounds. Making a sound dampened area to prevent detection, using air cushions to stop footsteps for a group. Extrapolating from that maybe a blind air bender could even use echolocation. They could also use air tunnel/sonar to listen in and spy on other people's conversations. Maybe even use it to "telephone" over extremely long distances needing the use of multiple air benders. Another sub bending technique could be synesthesia of smells like that badger thing. Finally we've seen it but vacuums, master Gyatso used it to kill all those fire benders and Zaheer used it to kill the earth queen. I think it even could be easy, a radicalized group of Airbenders just vacuuming places like suicide bombers. It would be crazy

Exactly, temperature manipulation is a big one. And how they can both internally & externally warm their bodies so that they don’t get cold in the Arctic, notice how Aang never needed a jacket or anything when they visited the Poles.

water is definitely the most versatile. Functional/Combative techniques: - aquatic extensions (mainly used my Ming Hua) - healing (possessed by most women benders) - state change to ice - bloodbending - Spirit bending - and just generally attacking someone direct with water *obviously* (I could go into very very deep detail about each of these aspects but my word count would literally fill the roof) Also most of these techniques are more able to be possessed together for those waterbenders that have great power. However with the other elements, such as air for example, the use of flight is very rare, but these waterbending skills became slightly more common in TLOK. Waterbenders are also known for using the opponent's force against them by using their defence as offence most of the time.

House of Matrix air is not weak, it’s the most available element. In LoK two airbenders were able to hold off a whole mecha army with a hurricane

1:37 i wouldn't really consider that an airbending technique... it's more like an impact/shockwave resulted from Aang hitting his target from a great height at high speed... if such technique exist it hasn't been shown in the series or there's no appropriate clip for it...

Little detail I liked, aangs face when he blasted zuko throughthe wall with kiyoshi style fans he was sad he doesnt enjoy plastering someone through a house. He is a gentle spirit and feels like hes won when he doesnt have to throw a hit. I think there was only one time where he actually physically hit someone directly. He will throw you back a hundred yards but just punching someone through a building isnt his style.

Just realized, I know the air nomads where a peaceful tribe and didn't have an army, but since the republic now have people from all 4 nations and a lot of technology, I wouldn't be surprised if they used the fans of the Kyoshi Warriors to enhance their powers
