As an Egyptian, this video made me so so happy!! You guys are unbelevably respectful to our culture and country. Im happy you took your time to get used to it. I admit it sometimes does get really hectic, even if you are born and raised here ahaha. I understand that many westerners arent accoustamed to that, but you guys appreciated it and got to see a whole different side. You are always welcome here!

@@UncleMomo1211 If you think the original poster should not have thanked us, you may be right. Tourists should be respectful of the places they visit, but they come into a country with all sorts of preconceived ideas and opinions and aren't all respectful. You don't have to look any farther than some of people's comments on this video, unfortunately. So I can understand and appreciate when someone has considerate words for people who aren't trash talking their country. Kindness never hurt anyone, and paying a compliment is a nice thing to do. And we reciprocated. It lifts up everyone and costs nothing. -Judy

I got an evisa and one on arrival and they had the same exact price! Both were very easy to get but if you get an evisa in advance… you don’t lose any time at the airport… around 10-15 minutes…
@FindingGinaMarie
@FindingGinaMarie 7 ай бұрын
@@rosariomartinez820 There is only the Egyptian government official website that offers e-visas. Everyone else will uncharge you. But when you're searching for the official website, it specifically says that there are a lot of fake sites and not to use them. At that point, it's difficult to know what's real or false, so spending a few minutes at the airport getting a visa on arrival isn't a bad idea. However, I do have a link in the description for the official e-visa website. Thanks for watching and for your comment. 1987...in Cairo...lost, looking at a map. A guy comes over and says he will take me to my destination. A regular guy, not a taxi. This guy ended up showing me around the city for 3 days. And after travelling around the country and ending up back in Cairo I met up with him again for another few days of sightseeing around the city. He even took me to see his family. One of the nicest guys I have ever met. And he wanted nothing in return.

You guys are so adorable and respectful. you truly showed to people the essence of what it's like to visit egypt. And as an Egyptian who loves history and various cultures i recommend visiting Alexandria ( my hometown) in the winter, the weather is amazing and you'll see and live the transition from pharaonic civilisation to Roman and Greek. You'll feel the mix between egyptian and Mediterranean cultures in every aspect. And after that you should visit sharm el sheikh or hurghada to have a glimpse of the nature on the coasts of the red sea and. You're always welcomed here and I'll be more than happy to help you with anything.❤️🇪🇬

As an Egyptian, I thank you for being so understanding of the local culture, economic conditions, and habits. Even though I live abroad, Egypt is still my favourite destination, and not only for it is my homeland, but also for its diversity and warm feelings... Egyptians are very "open" to other cultures as well... Another additional piece of advice: To Egypt, try not to wear "revealing" clothes. It is not an appealing look in Egypt...

Thanks for this excellent piece. Cairo is not for the faint of heart. It’s an incredibly rewarding experience, but can be challenging. Sorry but its not bias or ignorance to experience harrasments on the streets, men and children who grab your behind, try to touch you all the time, even when you covered yourself totally with head scarf and long skirts. I was shocked how rude and ruthless many of them was. Ofcourse there was nice people, but the rudeness of the majority was overwhelming. And the feeling of always having to be careful and protecting yourself from being scammed. So no thanks, never again

@@j.katyLevin.2684 I'm not sure why you mention bias or ignorance. We certainly never suggested that harassment is okay, condoned it in any way, or tolerate it in any way. What we have said is that we did not experience it in any way. We didn't say it didn't happen (or doesn't happen in every part of the world, because it does), only that we never saw anything even close to the issues you mention. I'm sorry you had issues. By all means, do not return if you didn't have a good or safe experience. However, we think overall it is safe and you are no more likely to get scammed in Egypt than any other touristy place where a small subset of people want to take advantage of vulnerable people. -Judy

@@FindingGinaMarie I have lived, worked and travelled to 25 countries in the world, nothing as dirty and annoying as Cairo. And exuse me, the harrasment can not be compared to any other country i have been too, Egypt is really on a another level. Besides, to understand my answer, you should maybe read the top comment in this thread, it was a reply to where they write thst any negative comment about Egypt is ignorance and bias.
@FindingGinaMarie
@FindingGinaMarie 8 ай бұрын
@jasminkatyjohnsonj.2684 The comment referencing ignorance and bias was not at all speaking about sexual harassment, which is why I didn't see a connection. I'm not sure what those 25 countries have been, but every country is unique and although some are similar, part of why we travel is to have different experiences. The traffic was next level, but it was interesting to experience. And spending time in Cairo helps me to understand people who grew up or spend significant time there. If you consider touts to be harassment, I agree it can be annoying, but I never felt unsafe. It was people trying to make money to support their families. They weren't actively trying to work, so I'm not going to be unreasonably upset by it. Sexual harassment is a different thing, but I'm also not going to dismiss an entire country of people because of it. -Judy

I went to Egypt and had a smashing good time. I can't wait to go back. We traveled from Cairo to Aswan. We got our Visa in the airport for $25 cash, easy peasy. A little bit of advance research and you can find out all the things you need to know. We used Memphis Tours and that was a fantastic experience. Do look where you walk; to avoid an unpleasant fall. The sidewalks, pavements, and tourist sites are very uneven with holes and broken paving slabs. Also lots of stairs. I disagree with eating street food. Do set your own itinerary. Don't waste your time at sites you're not interested in. Your hotel may be able to convert a small amount of dollars into Egyptian pounds, until you can get to an ATM. Some vendors are happy to accept U.S. dollars but it's harder for you to decide if you're overpaying. Better to have a selection of Egyptian pounds. You'll need lots of small denominations for tips.
@FindingGinaMarie

We are so glad to hear you had a great time. You are right about most things. I don't actually recall many stairs, BUT we did have to go up and down from the curbs, which kept stopping and starting. Not sure if that's what you meant. The key to street food is only eating it when you are getting cooked fresh food. We didn't have any problems with it, thankfully! We have an entire playlist from Egypt if you want to relive your travel experience. I'll link it below. We spent a night in Aswan's Nubian Village, took a Nile River cruise, a hot-air balloon, and spent a month total between Cairo/Giza and Luxor (outside of the cruise). -Judy Egypt series: kzfaq.info/sun/PLNT98lWfwdF1WcH9GxfK4ngH49MXf5oOv

@FindingGinaMarie Жыл бұрын
Are you saying you had trouble getting a taxi? The part of Luxor we were in did not have many tourists, and I was on my own for my night walks where people would come out of the woodwork to ask if I needed a taxi (or a felucca ride, or a tour, etc.!). I don't know if it's a blessing or a curse that hawkers weren't around when you needed one, but I'm sure frustrating if you were trying to get somewhere! They are very eager for tourists now. There's been one thing after another preventing tourists from visiting there. I'm sure it was an unsettling time for you when you went. I wrote about my experience here, but times definitely are different: findingginamarie.com/articles/i-see-you-every-night

Ahhh! Yes, I can only imagine! Hopefully not rip you off, but definitely vying for your business in a way that could easily feel uncomfortable. Everyone wants to be "chosen"! We were fortunate that our Airbnb host had a local Egyptian to help us and also provided taxi service. I think we got a fair deal each time, but we really only needed to get to/from the airport and to the train station.

Why I would NEVER return to Egypt? Filth, sexual assault, dysentery, roaches, mosquitos, flies on everything, unbearable heat, scammers, rude men, money changing is a PAIN! We were very modestly dressed and were still grabbed by men!
@FindingGinaMarie
@FindingGinaMarie 8 ай бұрын
I'm sorry that this was your experience. We did not experience any sort of safety issues so we can't weigh in on them. The water isn't safe to drink and you have to be careful with fruit and vegetables that aren't peeled. We also never had trouble with ATMs and getting money. And we encountered flies and mosquitos and heat in the South of France and in Italy. We thought that people were very kind and welcoming and would visit again. But sexual harassment is never okay. -Judy

@@FindingGinaMarie I was BEYOND careful with the food and water. I cannot Rx for myself as it is illegal. When we returned to Mina House , I asked for a MD and thankfully received antibiotics. I was traveling with a licensed tour guide in a group. I was NOT by myself and VERY modestly dressed. The men will grab as you are a foreign woman and are fair game. I did NOT have this issue in beautiful Italy. Traveled to Egypt as I have been studying KMT for approx. fifty years, plus studying their music. Some of the men were very kind. Sadly those were too few.
@FindingGinaMarie
@FindingGinaMarie 8 ай бұрын
Before we visited Egypt, we met with a travel doctor who prescribed antibiotics, which we took twice daily for a month, and that seemed to work for us. We also only ate street food when we could see them cooking food fresh. I feel like stomach issues are something you can encounter in many places throughout the world. As far as Italy, I'm specifically referencing mosquitos and flie. Someone in the comments recently suggested an over-the-country medicine you can get for stomach issues. Not all men will grab you. I walked alone every evening in Luxor and had no issues, and men were always respectful. I'm not sure who the tour guide was that you weren't better protected, but I'm very sorry you encountered that. The good thing is that if you did not feel safe, then you don't have to visit again. I think bad things can happen anywhere in the world, not just Egypt, but you don't have to return if you were traumatized. -Judy

@@FindingGinaMarie I went to a travel MD prior to my trip and asked for anti-malarial as well as antibiotics. He did not want to Rx the ABs. I told him they are broad spectrum and we are most likely targeting e Coli. I am a retired doctor. It was the fault of our tour company. We realized this. There were too many issues. You were lucky you were not grabbed in Luxor. Men did pass remarks, seemingly feeling free to do so. Please stay safe on your next trip!

Great tips. Thank you. We are going there this weekend for a few days. Business and pleasure trip. It's my second time there but the first was just a day trip from a cruise.

Hi, Ed! How lucky you are (although it is hot there right now!). We did a ton of tours in Egypt, but our BEST GUIDE BY FAR was Mahmoud Nour. If you aren't already fully booked, we highly recommend you contact him. He is expanding his services and speaks excellent English. He’s passionate, super knowledgeable, and really made our trip memorable. Here’s his info: 💥 MAHMOUD NOUR | Call: +20 102 6979554 * Email: Mahmoudnour2055@gmail.com * (let him know we recommended you to him-we make no money by referring him, but he was amazing and we know you won’t be disappointed if you use him. Have a fun trip, and hopefully you have more pleasure parts versus work parts of your trip! -Judy

Thanks so much for watching, Carl! I'm so glad you enjoyed our video. Note, however, that the rules regarding visas have changed, as we indicate in our pinned comment. Instead of a visa on demand, you should apply for an e-visa. Fortunately, Egypt offers one directly from their government at no extra cost: Here's a link to the official government site for an e-visa w/no extra fees: visa2egypt.gov.eg/ We did a ton of cool things in Egypt, and you might want to check out our videos from our month there. @FindingGinaMarie many thanks for your reply and information Judy. This has all been very helpful. I'm travelling from the U.K, I think we will still get the visa in advance, just so it's all sorted out beforehand though! Im going to get stuck into some of your other Egypt videos now. I love the style and substance in your videos in comparison to others i have watched. Very informative and give a great idea of what to expect in the destination. As first time visitors to Egypt, mahmoud will probably be very helpful to us. Thanks for this recommendation also. We travel in March, so will look at getting in touch with him!

Thank you so much, Carl! We haven't encountered many guides that we clicked with as well as Mahmoud in all our travels. He was outstanding. We made many friends on our Nile River cruise and every single one of us credits him for the amazing experience we had. And we're thrilled that he now is a guide throughout Egypt. I trust him a lot, and know that he will give you good recommendations and be a good guide if you use him. As you go through our videos, do not hesitate to ask any questions. We are happy to help. It's one of the things we love about our community here! -Judy
