@@MrBarborosa while it is true that many players today are much more athletic than back in the 60s, I’m still pretty inclined to believe wilt was the most athletic basketball player to ever exist. @Joseph Vernon not currently. Russ still gets more triple doubles since Luka came to the NBA. Russ seeming lower because he has so many seasons under his belt now. He was getting triple doubles back then, bit nowhere near the rate he gets them now. This lowers his average.
@thomasbuck303
@thomasbuck303 3 жыл бұрын
@Joseph Vernon yea what the other guy is saying is that Russ' average was higher than Luka's earlier in his career and people tend to slow down on triple doubles later in their career. So its not fair to compare averages since you are averaging a lot more seasons of Westbrook, which you then have to also take injuries into account (which are more common later in a career). To summarize: No its not that crazy that his average is higher...for now.

Anyone that wants to downplay Russell because they only read box scores needs to watch the "Greatest Peaks of All Time" series on him. His defense (invisible in the old box scores) was the most valuable asset in the entire game. That goes offense or defense. The game was different then and a big man with his presence was how you build championship teams.

We need a video on Pistol Pete, one of the most talented players of all time. He holds title for the most points in a college career , he did this with no three point line and only played three years of college ball. Not to mention he holds the record by a couple hundred points. He also came into the nba and embarrassed the league because they thought he made the game look to easy.

Doesn't seem possible? There were 8 teams bro. The competition also sucked and he still couldn't take them all the way. He was what you call a selfish player, who made Wilt better. And I don't blame him, compared to him they were trash. Nonetheless, amazing for its day, also extremely overexaggerated. Thus he is ranked just fine. Wilt is what Bruce Lee is to real fighting. A complete myth. Except you can actually see Wilt was way ahead of his time in an upcoming sport where today's rules wouldn't even resemble it. Bad analogy, I just wanted to say myth. Some changes since the start of Wilt: 1951 - Lane widened from 6 feet to 12 feet 1954 - 24-second clock is introduced 1955-1964 - No rules changes (drafted 59) 1964 - Lane widened from 12 to 18 feet 1972 - No foul shots are attempted, except shooting fouls, until fifth team foul of period 1977 - Force-out rule is eliminated 1978 - Number of referees increased from two to three 1979 - 3-point line established 22 feet in the corners extending to 23 feet, 9 inches at top of key 1979 - Referees reduced from three to two 1981 - “3 to make 2” and “2 to make 1” free throw rules eliminated 1984 - The 2-3-2 Finals format adopted, changing from 2-2-1-1-1 format 1988 - Number of referees permanently increased from two to three 1992 - Shot clock is reset only when ball hits the rim (previously it was reset if ball hit either the rim or backboard) 1994 - Three shots awarded for foul on 3-point attempt 1994 - 3-point line shortened to a uniform 22 feet around the basket 1997 - 3-point line lengthened to original 23 feet, 9 inches, except in the corners where the distance remained at 22 feet 1997 - A “no-charge” area established with a half circle with a 4-foot radius measured from middle of goal 2000 - Timeouts increased from six to seven, fourth-period timeouts increased from three to four 2001 - Illegal defense eliminated and zone defense allowed. Defensive 3-second rule prohibits defensive player from being in lane without guarding offensive player 2001 - The time to advance ball past midcourt reduced from 10 seconds to 8 seconds 2002 - Instant replay implemented for review of certain last-second plays 2007-15 - Expansion of instant replay every year except 2010-11 2017 - Timeouts reduced from nine to seven per team per game with no more than two after the 3-minute mark of the fourth quarter 2018 - Shot clock reset to 14 after an offensive rebound rather than 24

@@itsyourenotyour9101 hahaha well yea obviously the game was much easier back then but i still think he’s underappreciated for his superior genetic profile. if he had access to the current knowledge and understanding of training and player development- as well as better players around him- he’s one of the few players from the past who i would say is in a way indifferent with his potential no matter what era he was playing in. for the time basically all of his feats were not as insane as they would be in today’s nba, but they’re still things that prolly 90% of people couldn’t have achieved even if they were gifted with wilt’s genetics and were given the advantage of having the completely different style of play that basketball was conducted under at that time.

Well done ,with ESPN not what it was I feel like channels/content like yours are a big part of the reason. Also I really think your doing NBA a service by bringing up the older players , Im sure just about everyone that watched this video is enough of a NBA fan to know all the names but I feel like a number of people also after this video looked into some of the older names. Last , I really wish The NBA would play less regular season games and rank teams like they do in college , I get there is far less NB teams then D! College teams but The NBA has always had issues with "small market teams" and it would be kinda cool since there would be a lot of debate over what team ranks where thus giving the non Laker teams some "shine" in the sports media. I mean there are so many more NFL players per team and they play less games and I feel like I am close enough to being equal fans of both the sorts but I know way more about NFL teams that I have not stock in vrs. The NBA where it feels like there is maybe 6 teams that take up the lion share of convos.
