15 Minute Pancake Stretch for Beginners / Inflexible people. First video of the **NEW Beginner Flexibility Series**. My goal for this series to help those of you who have specific Flexibility GOALS that you are currently working on.
Do this follow along routine 3-5 times a week for the best results. Flexibility training takes months to years of dedication but I truly believe that ANYONE can become flexible (the way I did!) and I hope that the videos in this series will help you get there too.
WHAT IS A PANCAKE STRETCH?
A Pancake stretch is an advanced stretch where you sit with your legs in straddle position (legs apart) - feet flexed and knees pointed towards the ceiling. You would then walk your hands forward until your chest touches the ground!
We'll be doing a modified Pancake stretch in this routine with a pillow underneath our bums. As a beginner, it's okay if you can barely sit straight in a straddle stretch. The pillow will help tilt your pelvis forward and allow you to target muscles in your inner thighs and groin. We'll need to work on the muscles here to successfully do the Pancake stretch in the future :). As long as you feel the stretch in your groin area - we're gooooood.
Right now, your pancake stretch might look like a straddle but just keep reaching forward!

This is also a great stretching routine if you're working on your straddle stretch, pike stretch or middle splits (side splits).

No ,man careful not to overstretch u might suffer some unpleasant consequences u better do it once evry 10 days evryday is too much frequency for flexibility

Agreed! Depending on your current level of flexibility, you might not want to jump too quickly into these deeper stretches! There's plenty of other areas you can stretch out in the mean time :) Thank youuu ❤️

@@noureddinebougraou3934 Absolutely, got to be careful! Some people need more recovery time while others are able to do deep stretches a few times a week. As long as you are listening to your body 😄🙏

What I loved about the workout series os that it is actually beginners friendly! Most videos mentions they are beginners friendly but they are not! I am glad I clicked on this video! This will totally give my body some good stretch from all the sitting on my butt all day long

This is just what I needed. I have found that other pancake follow along videos are too advanced for me and saw little progress after performing the stretches for a longer period of time. After just one sitting of this, I know that this routine will serve me well. Thank you so much!

Elaine, thank you so much for being such an amazing flexibility teacher! I read your blog and have been practicing your front splits and middle splits videos every week for the past 6 months. I have seen huge strides in my flexibility and it’s all thanks to you!! I was in taekwondo once, and not only that it required mobility, strength and acrobatic skills, but also flexibility! I struggled a lot with splits to master the yeop-chaggi but ended up getting a hip injury so I quit while in blue belt. Watching this really move me to train my flexibility back, to me it's one of the hardest component in martial arts that's why I was never able to continue taekwondo. But soon I will take a yoga class, can't wait to see how it goes! This video is so helpful and motivating, not to mention it's also easy to follow. I might use this as a guideline before enrolling in the actual yoga class. Thanks for this!🙏🙏

Oh noooo!!! Hip injuries are the worse, that must have taken a long time to heal! Taekwondo definitely requires flexibility (I only did one class back in the day, would love to try again now!) ❤️❤️I agree, flexibility isn't like strength... it's mush slower but sooo rewarding. You get to move past limits you never thought were physically possible and learn to enjoy the process.. Yayy! these will really help with yoga~ I did the same, paired two and two together. Thanks so much 😄!!! Certainly :), though I would recommend doing flexibility training after a workout when your muscles are nice and warmed up. Training before may affect performance of your workouts~

I love that you made this into a series and that it’s beginner friendly🤗 I’ve been trying to find ways to stretch without hurting myself so I love watching and listening to you because it’s softer and soothing at the same time. Definitely can’t do the pancake stretch yet lol but I like that I can start with one leg at a time. I also like the trick to fold both sides of the mat in as well as the pillow. Thanks for sharing. Definitely go only as far as you can, when I started I was literally using my hands to hold myself in a seated position (no where close to folding forward) and that wasn't that long ago.. so I know what you mean, one leg at a time! This was so needed. I have been on my computer a lot and my hips, legs and back are protesting and everything has been feeling stiff. I have saved this to come back to regularly for breaks in my day. Thank you - your voice was so calming throughout too💛

Great set of stretchy and strengthening moves, thanks! My current goal is elbows to the ground comfortably. Have never been able to do it! Low back and hamstring flexibility is the toughest for me.

I ve never heard the word pancake stretch before! Great hip opener excersises and yes Iam also far away from the ground... 😂

Haha nice! seems like many people haven't 😄no worries! When I started I was actually leaning back and using my hands to try to support myself~ Just takes practice!

Really enjoyed this, thank you. Can I ask how often you recommend going thru this sequence? I have been working on my flexibility for about a year now and I’ve gotten better in a lot of areas but my pancake has barely improved

If you've already been working on your flexibility for a year, I would recommending doing this routine 2-4 times a week - of course, tuning into how your body feels! From my experience, the pancake was one of those stretches that I needed to specifically train for. What helped me the most was loaded mobility training (adding weights)!

They may help with lower back pain but you will feel them more in inner thighs, hamstrings, hips! I have a 5 min stretch routine for lower back pain on my channel that may be helpful for you! 💪Thanks so much!! 💕💕

This is great! Im getting a pain and a stretch in the outside of my hip before my groin. it alsmost hurts. once i warm up a bit things open up and I can get deeper and start feeling it in my groin area. is this normal?

hello!! i'm having a really hard time when you say to sit on one of the feet like during the one-legged pancake stretch. is there another substitution?

Hello!! Absolutely! for the walking half pancake stretch (9:31) try placing a pillow underneath your shin and ankle for support. For the half pancake hold (10:25), you may want to try sitting on *the edge* of a stool, two yoga blocks or a few towels. This will help tilt your hips forward while taking the weight off your feet! Hope these modifications help!

I liked the workup, but I needed a few minutes in the pancake stretch. It ended too soon in my opinion.

Heya! Depends on what your goals are! Typically evening for pancake or after a workout. That way your muscles are warmed up
