Great to see people share that's what the hobbies about great on your guys for share I have been in aquarium hobbies since I was 6yo now 42 and 26years of the in saltwater back in the days of undergravel filter and crap Hong on the back skimmer and wave makers where standard powerhead on timers I had some great bullet proof tanks and some that would crash every time you looked at them my tips are 1 water changes great for fixing a lot or resetting a tank that's has a problem you can't find or fix and great to help keep thing stable 2 when starting to cycle your tank add a small pinch of yeast to the aquariums every couple of days for a week or 2 it will help speed up and clean up the diatom in New tanks 3 don't chase other people's tank try to lead your own path as your tank is a part of you and your skill set 4 love your tank fish corals and other inhabitants but do forget other members of the family they need tlc too

great video!!!! one really good tip is about hair algae, I have seen so many videos of people saying to buy better equipment but it's just a lot of money wasted, or dosing to try to get rid of it when dosing will cause another problem that you don't need, and everyone has problems with hair algae and especially beginners. I highly recommend get a couple hermit crabs to solve it, I only had 2 hermits and my tank had a huge amount of hair algae and within 2 days my tank was totally clear of hair algae, hermits only cost 1-4 dollars usually and it's just so simple. again great video and congrats on having children on the way!!!!!!

Great advice from all! Proactive dude is on spot when it gets down to basics. I observe my tank almost ever day. My wife, who has never kept a tank in her life, often says, "so what do you see". I usually list several things going on or that will be going on if action is not taken. Usually things that she never saw or would see. I guess it comes with experience and understanding your inhabitants. But being observant goes hand in hand with the proactive thing. Great compilation of good advice.

Keep it simple to begin with because you can get completely overwhelmed at the beginning!!!! Also find someones tank you enjoy and copy what they do and ask questions, I love to talk about my tank with anyone who will listen. But remember, keep the corals you enjoy not what you think you should keep I still love some of the most simpler corals ! 🤗🐡🐠
@InappropriateReefer
@InappropriateReefer 5 жыл бұрын
Absolutely agree with this, and want to echo the simpler corals bit... sometimes the simple/easy corals are cheap because they grow fast and are easy to propagate, that doesn't mean that they are any less enjoyable! 👍

I think because I used really established live rock, mine didn't get as bad as Telegraham with the GHA. That being said he's absolutely right, just wait it out. Me personally I also STRONGLY recommend having a refugium or a AIO tank with some macro algae in the back. I'm using the Innovative Marine Cheatomax 2-in-1 and it turns a golf ball sized piece into a softball in a little over a week. Because of the macro growing in the back, the front display has always been pretty free of algae. I can go crazy with the feeding too and it stays pristine in the front, but the back goes crazy and you gotta spend 20-30 mins cleaning it out nicely. I clean it out maybe once a week or every 2 weeks depending. Mine is a AIO tank and the middle compartment is empty with just a ball of cheato and the light sits on top perfectly. TLDR: MACRO ALGAE in your sump!!!! Do it!!!

@AquaSplendor
@AquaSplendor 5 жыл бұрын
You kinda answer why it work so great in your tank. Macro Algae eat a ton of Nitrate and phosphate compare to coral, I personally mixed my food every day, I have like 7 different food. But Jake Adam is right, it should be considered as a treat. When I have Phosphate problem I tend to feed less Frozen food.
@BolverkrLimited
