15 Summer Looks for my American Girl Dolls - Using ONLY Items My Wife Sewed (w/ASL Interpretation)

Temperatures are rising and like many AG collectors, I like to imagine my dolls are aware of that fact lol. That means making sure they are all dressed for the occasion.
For this video I wanted to make sure every doll is wearing something my wife has made. Do you make things for your dolls? I like to make hair accessories and jewelry for them, but I don't sew because sewing would take a lot of time as a new skill I'd have to learn (and making videos already does that lol). Anyway, I hope you enjoy seeing the girls ready for warmer weather and I'd love to read and respond to your comments! Thanks for spending some time with me today :)

Grace if you’re reading this you are extremely talented !! I kept trying to pick a favorite than you showed another doll and was like noo wait now this is my favorite!! I thought everything was perfect and beautifully made , and than you would say grace thought this was too big or to small which just goes to show we are our worst critiques lol. I would be so interested if grace could make a video showing us beginners how to sew. Title should be “ sewing for dummies “ lol because grace girl you are doing your thing with all these outfits love it ! Thank you Kristie for sharing 💗

These all were really cute outfits! My favorites were the floral jumper, the paisley skirt/white top/sweater outfit and of course Claudie’s whole ensemble especially the Barbie inspired dress. I do not sew because my older sister got all the sewing genes. No joke she is amazing at it. I am happy to give others my $$ for their talents. It is great to see Grace’s progress with her new love of sewing. So many beautiful pieces she has made.

Grace does a wonderful job. She should open up a doll clothing shop. The fabrics she uses are so pretty and they compliment the dolls so well.

I love this! It was such a great idea to highlight Grace's pieces in a different way, outside of an unboxing. It really shows the versatility of the pieces off quite well. I loved Simone's outfit (though that could be some bias because that dark blue looks great with her hair!) and Violet's outfit best - I wear cardigans all summer long, thanks to freezing AC temps everywhere, so I feel like Violet gets it. I'm really in awe of how far Grace has come as a sewist; I'm still in the stage of trying to figure out how my machine works! When Grace decides her release date, promote that everywhere - I'll need to save up my money for sure.

I, too, am like Violet. Pants year round because a) I like them and b) even in the summer I'm usually in the AC lol. And I FULLY agree about Simone's color combo. Grace is going back to work full time mid-July, so hopefully some motivation will hit and she'll get ready for a release before then :)

Cute outfits and separates! Kudos to Grace! I tried my hand at sewing years ago and didn’t have the patience to stick with it because it takes A LOT of practice. I eventually discovered crafting with resin and clay and feel better suited for making doll food items. #14 is my favorite. Great video as usual!! 🤩🥰

I'm like you - I prefer clay and general crafting of all sorts. I can sew enough to make simple doll bedding, pillows, or curtains, but those are all just squares and rectangles.

Thanks - I feel like that fabric pattern was a really good scale for the dolls. Alas, Hazel has already changed outfits (and wigs!) to get ready for Pride. But she was in the jumper for at least a month.

Thank you! 😊 Where I know I'm not the most accessible is for blind people. I do try to keep some basics in mind, though, in terms of accessibility. Like I generally don't put text on the screen without reading it aloud, too. And I try not to put any captions or additional text near the bottom of the screen because I know that captions will cover it up and that's no fun for ppl relying on captions. I'd love to know some other simple things I could do to make things more accessible.

These are all great! Love seeing the newer pieces I hadn’t seen in the other video. I think the pink jumper and the ruffle shoulder tops are my faves. I try my hand at sewing but I’m also intimidated by my sewing machine 🫣. The last thing I made was pjs from a pair of adult leggings and a coordinating solid but I sewed it by hand, lol.

I totally love your videos! Grace is doing a great job! My favs are the pink printed jumper and the Barbie dress, but all are really nice!! I can't wait until Grace opens her shoppe! I have enlisted my grown daughter to help me attempt to sew a few things,(she sews Cosplay) but it is slow going. I have only just gotten into AG in the last 9 months....probably on the older/oldest end of collectors, (50+) but thoroughly enjoying it. Can't wait to see more!

One thing I love about this community is how intergenerational it is. There are literally collectors of all age, so you're in great company! And I'm so glad you're enjoying the videos (and hope your daughter can squeeze in some time to make your dolls a few things) :)

Thank you so much! We make a pretty good team. I don't have the energy/motivation to learn to sew and she doesn't have the energy/motivation to keep all the doll clothing organized and dress them as regularly as I do.

They all look adorable! I would 100% wear Claudie's outfit, all of it. 😄 I love the summer outfit ideas and it's so cool that Grace has made so many things! I can't wait to see what she comes up with next! Hard agree on jersey being tough to sew, I've had some far from optimal experiences. Ball point needle is necessary but even so sometimes the machine settings need to be fiddled with, in my experience. Thank you so much for sharing all these looks!

I was just glancing at the chat -- as I'm sure you know, there are often post-season sales on fabrics just like clothes and shoes and stuff. So if Grace wants to stock up on Pride fabrics, it might be worth looking for sales in July (though obviously if there are things that might sell out, get those quick!). I would love to see a Pride collection, and also some non-binary styles.

I love so many of these outfits, I don't think I can adequately comment. :) Grace has such a knack for picking great fabrics. The skirt on the 123 is gorgeous. I'm glad you didn't change Hazel's wig - I think it looks really cute and goes nicely with that adorable outfit. Kristie, I'm so glad you honored Grace by showcasing her work. She does beautiful work and this was a lovely way to show it off. I hope she does get up the courage to work with stretchy knits again, as Lea's outfit is so cute - she did such a nice job on that top. Thanks for sharing!

Simone, Violet, Jade #2 and Hazel are my favorites. I love all the clothes your wife has made. I love that you did a dress your dolls with some of her clothing. I am currently hand sewing a Colonial outfit. I’m testing a pattern so I can’t reveal it until it’s been released. I also am in the middle of making a doll garden area in my garden. I just shared pictures of my progress on Instagram.

Good luck! The smaller the clothing, the more challenging it seems from my vantage point, but I notice a lot of ppl stick to simpler patterns with the WW dolls.

I feel you about the sewing being intimidating. Grace just started watching youtube videos and took it from there. I think finding good tutorials can make a lot of difference. I wouldn't have made some of the clay foods I've made for my dolls if not for the excellent tutorials I've found - bless the ppl who share their talents and teaching with us!

Amazing!!! Grace is really killing it with the sewing! I have started sewing for my dolls too but I’m not as far as her, just getting started really. Can you let us know where she gets her patterns? Specifically the crop tops with the flutter sleeves ? Love that style!

She got that one from Pixie Faire. I can't remember the designer ( I *think* it was "forever 18 inches") but I know the pattern is called Summer Picnic Crop Top or something really similar. It's so cute!!
