RED Gardens

Күн бұрын

A new growing season is slowly starting, and at this time of the year I find it useful to look back at the previous year, to identify some of the many things that I learned in and around the vegetable gardens.
Help me develop these gardens and make more videos through regular contributions / redgardens
Or use www.paypal.me/redgardens as a simple, once-off way to support this project and the time and energy that goes into making videos. Thanks so much!

I absolutely love your videos. No intro and no begging for likes and subs before I have even watched. You explain the purpose of the video and get right to the info. I really hate it when a video says I will see/learn Process A, but first we need to make breakfast, feed chickens, fix fence, water pigs, and 25 minutes later we can start Process A after another lengthy explanation. Thank you for continuing to show your successes, failures, goals and obstacles. You have grown into an amazing garden over the years and I love it all.

I'm a big fan and honestly I'm continuously surprised that you don't have more followers. Possibly because you avoid catchy click bait-y titles and thumb nails, and instead focus on a fact driven, dispassionate discussion of your observations. Keep it up please.

Hey there! I am a bit surprised too, keep waiting for that increase to happen. I've been watching Red Gardens for about a year now and I keep coming back because the author clearly cares about the value of objectivity. He presents what he has learned in an honest way and seems to have no problem pointing out what he have have done wrong and leaves the reader to draw their own conclusions from his research. Clearly a scientifically minded individual which is such a breath of fresh air from the majority of others who claim to have all the answers, oversimplify to a fault or worst of all are just selling product disguised as advice. It's has been great following along with you and the development of RED Gardens over the past five years. I imagine you got a significant surge in viewership as Covid home bound people turned to gardening, and I wouldn't be surprised if that source of surge has plateaued. I hope your great channel has contributed to keeping many of them as life-long gardeners. As always, thank you, Bruce, for all you do and share.

I watched in 2021 and even moreso in 2020 the huge surge in first time gardeners. These were people that couldn't even identify when to harvest a zuchinni. I know the seed shortage of 2020 was very real and across many of the biggest suppliers. I also seen many of these influxes of new people interested in foraging and medicinal herbs as well. I suppose ultimately it has been more people interested in self sufficiency and less reliance on the supply chain. This has also been seen in people trying to escape into more rural areas where they can do just that.

Each and every one of your videos is an absolute treat. I know it will always be something thoughtful, innovative and different. I have a feeling that those who started gardening with oodles of enthusiasm have now plateaued off of gardening themselves, when going back to work, or getting back to life as they knew it. This includes the boring task of supermarket queues, rather than not being interested in what you do and say. I know which I'd rather do :D. What is a supermarket anyway?

@@REDGardens Yes we most certainly do. I hope when spring comes that people at least grow basics, such as salad crops and potatoes. Lots of things are going to be massively expensive, not just food. So I hope this pushes more people to grow. The UK is underfunded as far as allotment space goes, and I can only hope that farmers can see the benefits of letting out land for this purpose. Fertilizer for farmers has quadrupled in price at least, not to mention feed prices; plus there are crop disasters abroad such as tomatoes with droughts and other problems. I'm hoping the upward swing of prices will encourage more to grow food if they have the space.

Hello Red Gardens! I've just subscribed to your channel! Something that I have found extremely useful last year - I run a 30 bed kitchen garden for a client, we set it up over 18 months and were growing and building at the same time last year. We have a 30 ft tunnel in which we grew tomatoes, melons, peppers, aubergines, and grow salads during the winter. I grew all our Augbergines from seed, but bought just one different variety in - it was the only one that got mould on it, but what stopped that dead in it's tracks was a spray of Colloidal Silver. This is fabulous diulted, as it kills the nasties, bolsters the plants and makes for healthy young plants. I dilute 20ppm by 50% and have a spray bottle handy.

This is the best channel out there. The only one I really stop to watch as soon as a video is release. It is genuinely about learning the subject of growing vegetables with a scientific approach. No tic toc style self-centred author, no adverts, no begging for likes. I’m so glad the channel is going strong.

That sounds like a good source of fertility. It seems that anything we can feed to horses, or other livestock, can be used for fertilising our plants.

Definitely a nice recap. Thanks Bruce. Been watching your stuff for only 2 years, but it's been valuable for sure. I have to massively adapt things to my own climate and availability, but the way you present it makes this easy. Many channels are very country-centric when they talk about plants and tools and currencies, but you are quite open and honest about things. Keep it up, and thanks for helping me too, get in front of a camera (I remember your video about that too). Never back down!

I like this channel as one of the best gardening channels out there, simply because it is less biased than most. It's easy to find some No dig enthousiast or deep plower hacking at his soil and get lost in their methodology. Here at Red Gardens we'll see different approaches applied to the same soil and climate. This, together with all successes as wel as failures, I find very educational.
