I'm native Ukrainian and Russian speaker, have learnt English by myself and now just started to learn Danish. After three days I am going to Denmark and what I've got for sure is that I won't be ready to speak with Danes or with anybody else in this beautiful language. By the way it really has certain familiarity with English but only to an extent, because for me to write down what I hear and even understand is like a go down to hell and come back alive. Hei to all the Danes I convinced that you are awesome people, Ukraine is loving you!

I like your style of writing. As a native English speaker, I can see how Danish and English have a common ancestry. Some of the phrases, when spoken in Danish, are slight alterations of the English equivalent. The writing, not as much, but still I can sometimes guess what written Danish means as someone whos knows no Danish at all.

I speak native spanish and learn English by my self. The best way to start learning a new language is trying to be in touch with it as much as you can. REPEAT OVER AND OVER. Any language is as difficult to learn as much as your mind considers it.

Maarten- As someone who speaks Swedish and Norwegian, as well as English and enough German to have a short conversation, I agree! Danish is a strange language. I can read Danish almost as well as Swedish and Norwegian, and Norwegian and Swedish sound similar. Though, I must be honest, Swedish is the coolest and I prefer Swedish. Danish sounds like 'a hot potato in the throat' as my Norwegian friend Arild said. He was right. If you wanna learn any of the Scandinavian languages, learn Swedish dude, definitely the easiest and most similar to Dutch and German.
@8111thomas3 жыл бұрын
@@mrmatt1165 In regards to pronunciation, I agree he'll have a less stressfull time if he choses Swedish or Norwegian over Danish. I however can't find a single source which states that Swedish should be more related to German than Danish? (Or Norwegian either.) All three languages are north germanic, hence they are somewhat equally distant related to German being a west germanic language. (What I found in discussion forums and also thought myself.) Should Swedish for some reason have a slight advantage, I believe it would be highly insignificant anyway. Choosing the language based on interest would be the most beneficial option in long term, since his motivation would presumably be higher.

I decided I will learn Danish purely for a self challenge. Denmark is an amazing place by the way. I've learned English allby myself, and I had a fucking hard time when it came to pronunciation. It seems Danish pronunciation is at least as hard as English. Yes, English-speaking natives, most of you don't remotely realize how unbelievably hard your language is to draw the correct pronunciation from what is written, in comparison to literally any other European language. So pay some respect to Danish, please. I will come back here and watch this video a thousand times. Danish pronunciation is giving me a serious headache, but I survived English before.

I've been learning danish for over a month on Duolingo, and while it helped me grasp the writing of the language, there is only so much it can do to help me with speaking it since I tend to not speak too often to begin with. I do have a textbook where I wrote down most of the words I've learned of the danish language thus far, but I need to organize it. I write the word, and below it the pronounciation of said word so I can properly say it out loud. As for my actual experience learning it, as a french person, I'd say it's comparable to english and german in terms of phrase structures, though there are many subtilities I haven't learned just yet. Not having to conjugate verbs all the times helps a lot though ! Also, my main difficulty with my learning is being able to differentiate some words when the same sound is spoken twice in a row. For example, I had this phrase in Duolingo : "Hvad spiser vi i dag", but I heard "Hvad spiser vi dag" instead and got a wrong answer. Now, I'm fairly sure the "vi i" part is compressed when that phrase is spoken out loud, but writing it down is another story ! At any rate, I'll make sure to bingewatch the videos you have this week-end so I can get a proper grasp on this language.

I am hungarian, and I honestly find the danish accent quite easy to a point. Of course, there are some things I may have trouble with, like the soft "d", but I am getting used to that aswell. But basically the point is, many letters sound like our hungarian letters. Like ø = ő, å = á/ó æ = é, y = y, d = n (lowkey, that's how the soft d was like for me at first), etc. So I have an easier time learning the danish accent and overall the language. And also thats why the "Øhh.." sounds just like our "Ööö" so that's a relief I won't have a problem with that in Denmark and I will be able to say our language's "uhm".

I am so confused by the pronunciation of the word "Jeg" it sounds like "jij" in dutch. It is so hard to think of myself in that case 😄

do you think learning danish, sweeden, german will help to get a job in north of europe easily coming from latam?🤗

Bueno...I think your level of education is more important, as we all speak English anyway. That being said, you'll enjoy your work-life in Denmark more if you understand the language.
