$150 Swivel Seat - Creating a DIY Swivel Seat for my Astro Van

If anybody has ever looked into getting a Swivel seat for their Astro Van, you'll know that they aren't cheap and they defiantly are not common.
If you can find them you know that they range anywhere from $250 - $400. If you are anything Like me, then making a DIY swivel base was the only option!
In this video you'll see me go through the process from start to finish, building the swivel base, assembling it, and making sure it works.
All the parts cost me roughly $150 and about 2 hours of work. This is a relatively cheap and simple way to create an awesome swivel seat for ANY VEHICLE!

Metal Plate ( I recommend going to your local metal shop to find this metal, it will be much easier and you can have them cut it exactly as you need. Here is an amazon link just in case. )

Take off the stock mount, and just mount your rig to the sliders. Should work fine. Great work though! I’m very impressed! MacGyver!! 💪🏻

Very cleaver job. Definitely a clean and simple idea! Keep up the good work bro! I cannot wait for your summer trip! You can test everything out and make some adjustments to adapt the whole design to real world needs! Great content!

What a nice build for the swivel seat. That takes some engineering skills--awesome. And yes, I like the color of your van. Yellow gives it character. You should go into the custom van building business as I am sure you would make money. And, I would have you build me a van.

Nice work! I was looking into using a barstool swivel, but I'd have to DIY a lock and also I don't know how well it would handle a crash. Your solution is much more sturdy!

It's cool, and I think you could make it lower too, if you made a different way to mount the top, made like a few L shaped brackets to bring the seat down over the swivel more, instead of that flat plate... maybe that could work somehow.

you may or may not know that if you push the dome light override button 4 times it turns your daytime headlights off.

We have the Iron Clad swivel and its defiantly not a different height for the passenger seat... if it is it is very little because I do not notice it. But I like your concept

I seem to recall that you can get that front seat a little lower. Look in wreck Ing yards for an old Astro passenger van with three rows of seats. If you find a van with the second row with seats like the front, the mounths in the second row are shorter. You might keep the in the back of your mind.

Yes you can. You’ll just have to build it to fit your specific bolt pattern. Easy peasy

IT'S A DEATH TRAP!!! The seat was bolted to the floor with four bolts, now it only has ONE bolt through the swivel mechanism. The seat belt bolts to the seat frame so on impact it's useless as it should be transfered to the floor. It's a nice job if nobody sits in it other than when the van is parked.

@mattblack133 i dont feel like it was a twatty answer. He plainly stating that he travels alone and doesnt sit in that seat while the van is moving. Just because he didnt respond overly enthusiastic doesnt mean he was being "twatty" sometimes the best answer is the simplest/shortest.

So expensive! Is there a reason you couldn't have used one of the hundreds of swivel mechanisms under $20 on Amazon? If they're strong enough for boats, they should work for other kinds of vehicles, too, right? I'm planning on converting a Toyota Sienna for camping and would love to figure out how to swivel the passenger seat around.

Those little ones would require a large amount of bolting larger sheet metal pieces on to make them fit the bolt patterns in the van. I also don’t trust a $20 swivel that much weight (sheet metal, chair, person) to withstand the test of time. I’m you are looking for a cheaper option I would check out Northern tool for their swivel seat. It’s $100 and seems to work great. I don’t have a link but somebody mentioned it within the comments in this video.
