With a team-mate, you can actually use this like an original artillery piece. If coordinates and distance are passed down, you just aim to that exact location and fire (if nothing is blocking your way). The shrapnel round easily goes throw the top of the tank like butter

I don't think war thunder has maps large enough for such a task. I remember how a few youtubers tried to do it with a Japanese tank similar to the M109 but ended up just shooting straight as it was near impossible to get anything on target using conventional artillery.

@rm2569 yeah I saw that clip of the guy doing it. But isn't the m551 a light tank just with extreme derp. Real arty tanks simply don't have the derp

I recommend taking 17 rounds for the M109s, increases survivability and you don’t need to worry about replenishing the first stage ammo storage

The proximity fuse is fun to use especially in arcades, it's easier to aim planes, they don't expect it

actually, there are quite a few accounts of using SPGs inside cities with direct fire sights from the 155mm GMC M12 - a rare SPG the US Army treated like a strategic asset of the utmost importance - used to blow up a Panther and at least one Stug III, to the 105mm HMC M7 Priest that was used in North Africa to break the gates of a fort occupied by enemy soldiers

@@cjl1w4g27 no tank will pen every shot at every angle. But at 6.3 or close the us doesn’t have anything else that will kill a jagdtiger from the front. Except for the m109a1. It’s the only US gun that can kill any tank on the battle field. Without worrying about pinpoint weak spots.

4:18 with the proxy shells, aim for the sides/to the high-top side of the tank; your proximity fuse are triggering on the barrel if you aim center of mass

It is fun to use that SPG specially its Proxy Rounds I destroyered a number of aircraft doing an attack run heheh great experience for me heheh maybe next time try the M247 thanks

Unless they fixed the proxy rounds they made them almost not work at all on tanks. use to work well, I would take them as a primary round in the 2S3

The YaG-10 if it has some camo bushes, is quite viable at 8.7 with it's APHE and timed shells.

bushes didn't do that before... i noticed when i came back... i fire and the round explodes on a facking bush... makes no fucking sense and should be considered at bug to be fixed. Regarding the 109 introduction, im really desapointed cause the game doesn't offer a single way to use it has it meant to be used.... its a self propelled artillery piece not a tank hunter.... i wish artys would be introduced has a different branch of combined arms... we have ships, planes and tanks... in tank battles an arty would be presented the same way a plane is, or an helo... for example. So you could spawn in a tank, arty or plane... and yes you could go one on one with tanks... but the main job of arty would be to receive coordinates and fire at it...how would they do it? i dont know... but this is not the way either in my opinion.
