Wow…feeling a bit humbled. I’ve always felt so annoyed by how LO instantly wants to crush or tear any paper he gets ahold of. This was my reminder that everything he does (even seemingly destructive things) is his way of learning. It’s common sense, and told to us constantly, yet somehow I lacked perspective. Thanks for helping the lightbulb screw the rest of the way in! 😅

When I try to encourage my 16-mo to clean up, he just thinks it's playtime all over again. He's also hasn't got the hang of waving or saying hi or bye no matter how much I model it. He doesn't say very many words even though we read together plenty, talk through our daily routine and name lots of common items over and over. He'll also only walk when holding my hand. But he loves putting lids on things and is a great climber, and he constantly tries to make me laugh by being silly. I believe he'll get where he needs to be when he's good and ready.

Jean Piaget child psychology is a good read. Helped me realize milestones are sometimes too prepackaged. They may know how to repeat words and facial expressions simply as imitation play. more important we acknowledge their own semiotics than have them mimic ours and tally them.

It's ok. Like she said, it varies from one toddler to the next; these are just averages to give you an idea of what to guide your child toward in this stage of their life. Some little ones may be "on track" with everything, or great with fine motor skills and maybe even understands many words and phrases but still communicates with gibberish/grunts and pointing for a while, or they may be great at talking but find movement activities more challenging to get the hang of, or they may even find it all a challenge at first and take a little longer but really get excited and master it later. We can encourage and guide them, show them what they can achieve and that we believe in them, build thier confidence and cheer them on. They will have their challenges and strong points, just like older kids and adults. Some adults lean towards gymnastics, music, science, coding, or jobs/hobbies that focus in communication and psychology. Keep up the good work, and enjoy watching your little one's gifts unfold.

Youngdeku love this reply, my baby boy is currently 16months he’s eligible for speech therapy but I’m hesitant to start him, reason being everything is great with him except he doesn’t communicate well (according to their evaluations) he does say 10 words and he does simply commands from time to time. I use think he will definitely get it all together soon because every toddler is different.

No worries. Every child is different. This is meant to give you ideas of activities so you can guide and encourage them towards milestone goals possible for their age group. If your little one can't quite do some of these activities, you can tailor things to their level and work up to it at their pace. You can also go to previous videos for 15month and 14month milestones, do those activities, and just encourage and enjoy the process with your toddler as they learn exciting new skills at their pace. Sometimes it's steady. Sometimes slow with a big jump one morning. Etc. Love, attention, encouragement, positive reinforcement, play, believe in them, do what you can to help them have sleep and food/beverage needs met, and you can get there. 🙂

Hi I’ve one concern. My son has not spoken words except for mama , dada or mammam (food) and other babbling words. When I teach him or sing songs he likes to listen and look at my mouth. He doesn’t say anything. I got worried and brought my son to his paediatrician and he told me that I should just let him have his own pace. And that he’s not autistic. But I’m trying everyday to teach him different sounds that animals make and talk to him about everything that we do together. Even during shower time. But whenever I try to teach what’s in a book he will just continue turning the page but he will be listening. If he gets bored he will try to snuggle away or throw tantrums. Can anybody share with me some ideas . Please.

Hello! Trust me I hated this video when I saw it! I questioned the age of this woman’s children and suggestions and unfortunately I’m the kids in the videos are older than she lets everyone believe. Also no baby at 16 month old is allowed to brush teeth like that, their gums are way too sensitive! Also the girl in the video is very well coordinated for being 16 months. I showed this to my pediatrician and she confirmed my suspicions. I will email KZfaq about this. Very unfortunate female with issues here.
