Find simple, engaging, developmentally appropriate, and, most importantly, fun Montessori activities for our young toddlers (14-15 Months Old) in this video! Montessori at home play ideas for young toddlers to encourage independence, help achieve milestones at their own pace, and lay the foundation for strong language, math, science, art, and musical discoveries! Our toddlers are incredibly busy at this age - let's discuss how we can support their development and what fun activities we can provide to keep them developing and happy!
We cover a variety of Montessori activities suitable for 14-15 months in this video, but keep in mind that the Montessori activities we discussed for 12-13 month olds will still be applicable at this age! Our children are continuing to perfect those skills, while discovering new ones. Think of these Montessori play ideas as additional activities to add to your toy rotation, without displacing the activity ideas for 12-13 months!
Please remember that every child's developmental journey will be different. Providing activities that are appropriate for your child's current development is the beauty of Montessori. The Montessori activities in this video will generally be appropriate for 14-15 months, but you may be able to use them on younger or older toddlers, depending on their development. Always remember to follow YOUR child!

Wow, a lot of these seem way beyond my 14 month old's abilities. I'm gonna have to go back and watch the 12-13 month video 🙈 The ball run is a clever idea!

Their skills and interests are going to be so different at this time-this is definitely just a guideline and not a rule by any means! I will say though, I thought many of these were beyond Stella's level as well. The lacing block and pegs in a pegboard I was washing and getting ready for a future rotation way down the line when she saw them and wanted to try...and she got them 🤯 way before I even thought she would be able to. The things they're capable of or interested in and willing to try to master can be surprising to us! So I'd say definitely check out the 12-13 month activities - those were in rotation at this age as well, but give a couple of the ones that seem difficult a chance to see if there's an interest there! Obviously it won't look perfect on their first try-it never does! I grab the clips of when Stella has finally gotten the activity down so you can see what it looks like with little hands, but there's lots of bumps and twists in that journey 😊

Only you can comprehensively introduce 30 activities in 13 minutes =))) Such a helpful video and as always, I'm blown away by Stella. Her voice is the cutest! My girl just turned 13 months and we're still working on your 12-13 months activities. She loves everything but HATES chores like her dad :D She practically runs and hides in her room every time I ask if she wanna help with chores so looks like doing the dishes would be a 14-15 year-old activity for her hahaha.

Aw thank you so much ❤ All credit for that goes to speech team training 😅 I do need to slow my speech but there's just so much to share! And I know our free time as moms is so limited. I had to show your comment to my husband-he's always talking about how much he loves Stella's voice. We spent all 9 months of pregnancy wondering what it would sound like! Aha every one of them has a set of practical life activities they love and don't care for. Stella likes to run around with the broom bit she has zero interest in being productive with it. Anything with water is 💯 her jam though! One day your daughter will finally notice you having a bit too much fun being productive with a task without her help and want to join it too 😉

If i didn't already this video with the dressing frames the spray washing activity pouring cups etc would have encouraged me to bite the dust and make a big order from absorbent minds. It is the only place I found good quality materials that were made exactly for little hands out of real materials. I love the different posting activities i remember looking for that peg stacking activity but the plastic one was oksy fo r the past few months I love finding little purses with different fastenings but when she figured out how to open each it is such a good moment. The hammering bench i found whilst decluttering our room i completely forgot i put it there The matching activity with the faces is a good idea better than her slapping the picture of me on my face hahahaha. I think i noticed she was matching colours and that's why i started looking for the 3 coloured disks on dowels and went on a big shop in the Montessori online store. I'll also add i couldn't find an activity with matching clothing items to members of the family as like a category sorting activity but i noticed Huda was doing this saying each person's name whildt doing laundry does Stella do this too Omf the burst in language is so cool to see especially the sign language i think with the gestures its like learning signs but i just stuck with the baby sign language book learning more signs. Honestly all of these activities i am so happy i haven't been lagging on this as a mum. I thought i was completely missing out on so many activities missing some developmental leaps but i am so greatful that i can see i have actually been doing almost every one of these i just never realised as the weeks pass and i fill my day with the new project of sorting out our room transfering in my job i think i just had too much on my plate that i wad feeling guilt for missing out on developmental moments with Huda but thankfully i can now accept that i am not failing hahahaha and try to reduce my guilt. Thank you for the video going to add some of these activities to my list.

Congratulations on the job transfer! I honestly also hadn't realized just how much we had accomplished until I went to put this video together and counted all the scenes 😳 They're learning SO MUCH. Please don't stress about missing out on activities! I can tell you have a lot set up for Huda and the right mindset - all the additional variations and extensions of activities are really the sprinkles on the icing on the cake! The list of activities is infinite! Which is what makes Montessori so powerful, but I feel you on the constant chase to ensure we present everything to our girls. Absorbent Minds! I hadn't heard of them, but after checking, it seems to be the UK branch of Nienhuis? So far we have been able to get everything from Allison's and Montessori Services, if not Etsy or Amazon. Their prices are more competitive but also still high quality authentic material suppliers. But I'm not sure if they're only US based 🤔 Stella is slapping the face cards on everyone as well 😅 Thankfully my inlaws cant feel it through the phone screen! Today she walked around with dad's face card and slapped it on all the family photos with him. And yes, she has been naming our clothes in the laundry for a while now! It's incredible the level of detail she notices! We have some very similar clothes (typical Korean couple clothes) and she will still proper pick out mine vs her dad's 😳 Or things like her dad's work socks, which she rarely sees him in..she still knows. I'm thinking of showing her which closet side is mine and which is dad's. Maybe she can help me put away laundry in the correct spots now instead of just...on the floor 😅

Ooh let me know how it goes! I've seen mixed results with kits that use regular foam because it's so soft. The one we got handed down barely budges! Maybe if you glue it down to a cardboard box or something to make it more ridgid?

@MariaandMontessori 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Stella was the same-she had zero interest and then went 0 to 100 overnight! She understood the concept earlier than she cared to show me though. I noticed her matching random magnets with animals here and there. The most successful approach to starting matching activities for us was starting with identical item matching. Specifically with her favorite fruits-she was motivated to join me because it was food. I took a basket of 2 apples, 2 oranges, and 2 pears. Laid out a line of the fruits while naming them, asked her to point to each, and then asked her to grab an apple. Then I asked "ok where's the other apple?" And helped guide her hands to put apple #2 under the first one. We did that with orange and pear. Then I reset the activity and had her do without my hands. And I left the basket in our kitchen accessible to her-she started slowly but surely gravitating towards it. After that is when she started bringing pictures of her grandparents to the phone when we FaceTime them. So we did the picture to picture matching because she loves looking at the familiar faces. And then the item to picture with the cars. She had randomly succeeded with that a few times but it's not something she loves 🤷‍♀️ we made it more fun by playing with the cars as they make their way to the card, so now she's excited to take them out, drive them on her mat going "beep beep " as she heads for the matching card😅

At what age typically do you start demonstrating vs just letting the child explore the materials? I introduced the object permanence box to my daughter who just turned 7 months. She seems interested but unsure what to do with it. Should I demonstrate it to her or would that interfere with her learning?
@MariaandMontessori
@MariaandMontessori 2 жыл бұрын
You can absolutely demonstrate it to her! Just do it slowly and without saying much, so she can see your movements. She will still get the benefits of discovering object permanence through the activity whether you show her first or she figures it out first 🥰 With older kids (3+) in the class, the teacher first presents a material before a child can use it, to ensure they use it properly. With our younger kids, some personalities prefer to grab things out of our hands and try to figure it out themselves while others sit back and wait for us to demonstrate. Both are perfectly fine! Follow her cues! Seems she's ready and willing to see your guidance on how to use the object permanence box🙂

That's honestly why I started with it! It's my biggest pet peeve that such a quintessential Montessori material has been transformed into the exact opposite! @MariaandMontessori
@MariaandMontessori Жыл бұрын
I always recommend starting with practical life & seeing which activities around the house your child is most interested in joining you on. And then see if there's a skill they could use help with & be interested on refining in isolation. So say she's interested in joining you in the kitchen. That's typically a lot of transfering and pouring - so in addition to doing those activities in the kitchen, we can set up a simple invitation for transfering & pouring on the shelf too. As for other activities, see what from this list seems of interest & in line with her development. If not, check out the videos before that (including ones on practical life!) to use as activities thag will scaffold skills to these ones! 😊

How can I encourage my daughter to stop playing with water?
@MariaandMontessori
@MariaandMontessori Жыл бұрын
Playing with water is very interesting and beneficial to kids! So the best way is to redirect to a spot/ activity that they CAN do with water like simple pouring or handwashing with a functional kitchen etc. I started by just having an activity out without the water in it so when she approached it, I knew to fill it with water, drop a towel down, and let her play with it! That way she didn't play with less desirable water options

I don't think these activities are normal for a 14 months old baby 😅. My son still cann't walk...or maybe he is behind
@MariaandMontessori
@MariaandMontessori 11 ай бұрын
Walking is a milestone (average age was 12 months meaning plenty walked earlier and plenty walked later, and it has since shifted)-these are not milestones. They're activity ideas for developing the child. Of course I didn't pull these out one day and expect her to do them-we had other activities that she worked on when she was younger that scaffold the skills needed here. But the activities ARE based on general milestones and the Montessori curriculum. Whether a child can do them or be interested at 14 months or earlier or later will depend on their individual development and environment.
